In the wise words of Richard Gilmore (grandfather to Rory Gilmore in the made-for-fall viewing TV series, Gilmore Girls), “I am an autumn.” Meaning, as a complete and utter fall lover, I embrace the arrival of this new season and all that comes with it each year — including fall nail colour trends in all their moody, glossy glory.

The vibrant hues of summer are simmered down to richer, deeper jewel-toned shades. The allure of tried-and-true vampy colours tempt us to go dark with our manicures ahead of Halloween. What’s not to love? Taking cues from Fall 2023 runways and our very own TikTok and Instagram feeds, we’ve settled on six colour trends you can expect to see painted on fingertips everywhere this autumn — including one classic Chanel polish making a comeback, two summer shades getting a fall makeover, and a whole lot more to choose from.

For our breakdown of the trendiest fall nail colours to try this autumn and where to shop them, scroll right on.

Commemorate fall’s arrival with a seasonally on-brand set of black cherry-coloured fingernails. Thanks to a TikTok video posted this month by vintage makeup enthusiast Erin Parsons, French fashion house Chanel’s best-selling “Vamp” (now Rouge Noir) nail varnish is due to spark an entire colour trend this season. As far as red-black polishes are concerned, Chanel’s is as iconic as it gets.

Since debuting on Chanel’s Fall 1994 runway, this shade has been spotted everywhere from Madonna’s music videos to our TikTok For You Pages. It’s always been a classic, but this fall we’re really feeling the pull of this moody shade.

Who said we have to ditch colour for fall? Instead, trade in your summer brights for opulent jewel-toned polishes. Think: emerald green, citrine yellow, and amethyst purple. These bejewelled beauties make for the perfect transitional shades from summer to fall — and fall to winter.

The latte makeup look was everywhere this summer, and this autumn we’ll be taking the trend to our fingertips with coffee-coloured manicures. Mirroring all of the fall drinks we’ll be sipping, a manicure in the same brown-hued palette seems only right for this time of year. From creamy caramel tones to almost-black espresso shades, you can customize your next set of nails just as you would your favourite fall beverage. So, how do you take your coffee?

Essie’s quick drying Expressie polishes feature an angled brush that allows for easy application with both hands! Plus, there’s no need for a base or top coat here. Shop the shade “Take the Espresso” to really commit to that coffee-inspired look.

Some like it red hot

In case you haven’t heard, we’re in for a red-hot fall — and we’re not talking temperatures. On the Fall 2023 runways, labels like Prada, Bottega Veneta and Valentino forecasted an autumn season full of red garments and accessories. All you’ll need is a fiery manicure to match. Whether you prefer a classic shade of cherry or a sophisticated blood red to get in the Halloween spirit, there’s no right way to do red here. Remember the red nail theory? Put it to the test this season with your boldest red mani, if you dare.

From OPI’s “Classics” collection comes this “Big Apple Red” polish. It’s a totally timeless shade that could never go out of style, and it’s even got Hailey Bieber’s strawberry girl stamp of approval.

Like latte makeup, the somewhat controversial “blueberry milk” nail trend of the summer is getting a fall-approved makeover. Enter: navy nails. This deep blue is dark enough to capture that moody essence of the season, yet understated enough to be worn with all of your favourite coats, sweaters, and cardigans. Why not do navy?

Londontown’s Lakur Enhanced Colour polishes provide a gel-like finish and wear, without needing to be cured by a UV/LED lamp. This chip-resistant nautical navy shade from the collection is right on trend.

Boldly black

’Tis the season of the witch — and nothing is witchier than a blackest-black set of onyx talons. Sleek, classic, and sexy, you can truly never go wrong with a jet-black manicure for fall. Though, we understand not everyone may be ready for Halloween just yet. If you’re looking for a more approachable take on an all-black mani, try playing with softer nail shapes and dainty designs with black accents instead.

With a “snap and it’s dry” promise, Revlon’s collection of vegan Ultra HD Snap polishes are perfect for a last minute black manicure. And because nail care is just as important as achieving that gorgeous glossy look, these polishes are over 78 per cent naturally derived.

We make plans, and the universe laughs. This was the unofficial theme at New York Fashion Week Spring 2024, where weather ranged from sweltering heat to torrential downpours, thus throwing a wrench in the methodically mapped-out appearances of attendees. Poetically enough, the runway beauty trends reflected a person who doesn’t let day-to-day mishaps get them down.

RELATED: Julia Fox Is a Campy Bride + Other Standout Moments From NYFW

Said person makes the most of things. They embrace mild sunburns and hair-ruining rain storms. They can find their own fun, be it through imaginative rhinestone appliqués or reused ribbon accessories. This season, the best beauty looks focused on accessible playfulness. FASHION listed them all below, along with some tips from the experts.

Deliberately drenched

Caught in a storm on your way to something fabulous? Fret not! The sleek “wet” look has been going strong for a while. But this season, the damp hairstyle reached new levels by, well, getting messy. At Jason Wu, models were meant to appear as though they had just emerged from a shipwreck. “The idea is that the woman had her hair all done and then it got soaking wet — so it’s destroyed,” explains celebrity hairstylist Jimmy Paul backstage on a grey, rainy day. “But what’s left, in fact, might be even more beautiful than how it started.” Achieving the style is similarly chaotic. After wetting the models’ hair, Paul scrunched TreSemmé Mega Control Hair Gel throughout, before finishing with the brand’s Keratin Smooth Shine Serum. To add long-lasting texture, he generously applied mousse and locked it all in with hairspray. “It should look effortless, easy and like an afterthought,” he says. “Like it took two seconds.”

Futuristic French tips

Prabal Gurung Kiss Nails

Sure, it’s got its critics, but the French mani remains a classic because it can be constantly reinvented. This season, the two-toned template had an avant-garde flair, from embroidered tips at PatBO to red dipped ends at Alice + Olivia. The most eye-catching iteration was the chrome finish at Prabal Gurung (above), courtesy of lead nail designer Gina Edwards. Using KISS Bare but Better Nails as a base, Edwards and her team applied silver or gold gel onto nails for a dripping three-dimensional effect. “With a metallic half-and-half nail, you could carry it through from day to night,” she says, adding that gold and silver do in fact go well together. “Metallics are great all year round.” To recreate the stylistic finish, Edwards suggests using the nude press-ons and applying “a little freeform action at the tip” with a gold polish. The less uniform it looks, the better.

Health is wealth

Move over, alien brows and heavily contoured cheekbones — au natural is in. Think: that glistening post-run flush and those soft, sun-induced freckles. At Proenza Schouler and Ulla Johnson, fresh-faced models graced the runways with dewy Hailey Bieber-esque skin. At Staud, where models had subtly sunburnt cheeks, makeup artist Romy Soleimani was inspired by effortlessly cool ’90s editorials like those of Calvin Klein. “It shouldn’t feel like makeup, it should just feel like skin that has a little tint of warmth to it,” she says backstage. She used Bobbi Brown’s Vitamin Enriched Pressed Finishing Powder to add a fine “veil” of blush. “We’re trying to mimic real health. Like, you exercise, you’re fresh…It’s optimistic,” Soleimani shares. “Coming off of the pandemic, it’s great to evoke health even more.”

Save your ribbons!

TRESemme X Christian Siriano

To those who can never bear to throw away the satin sashes that wrap up pretty packages: Your time has come. These decorative DIY embellishments reigned supreme at New York Fashion Week. Collina Strada showed whimsical strands wrapped around long gauzy strips, while Alice + Olivia had polished bows affixed to elegant buns. Christian Siriano took this trend to new levels, with a “corset braid” courtesy of Unilever stylist and celebrity hair artist Lacy Redway. She describes the tightly wrapped strands as a put-together spin on the “clean girl” aesthetic, fitting for a “ballerina fairy who twirls down the runway.” (Pro tip: Prep the hair with mousse before you begin braiding.) From floral arrangements to intricate updos, the humble ribbon goes with anything.

Severely sharp lines

To borrow an old proverb (er, Taylor Swift lyric), the mood at New York Fashion Week was about drawing cat eyes sharp enough to kill. Runways relished in the sensual style by pairing graphic eyeliner with minimal skin makeup. At Khaite, punky blunt slashes were painted under the brow. At Helmut Lang, eyelids had extended liners in jet black, bright white and vibrant yellow. Cat eyes went futuristic at LaQuan Smith, where Lancôme global international makeup artist Sheika Daley drew two nearly connecting lines from the waterline and inner corner. “We’re leaving a little bit of negative space on the inside to create a beautiful halo effect,” she explains.

Rhinestone reverence

The easiest way to infuse drama into any look? Add a little bling. Rhinestones adorned updos and eyeshadow at Dauphinette. Stick-on jewels were applied to faces and fingers at Sandy Liang. And gemstones reigned supreme at The Blonds, from beaded middle parts to ornamental acrylics. “[We were] thinking about that feeling of whimsy, fantasy and [living] a dream life,” says celeb nail artist Juan Alvear, who layered on acrylics for the claw-like effect. Off the runway, recreating these embellishments is surprisingly attainable. To play off his nail art, Alvear recommends using nude press-ons as a base and applying KISS Nail Art Rhinestones as you wish. Reckless abandon is good, actually!

What do Hailey Bieber, Ashley Graham, and Rosie Huntington-Whitely have in common? They’ve all got pro makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes to thank for some of their best glam looks to date. And this month, she’s sharing her expertise with the rest of us beauty enthusiasts via the launch of a new makeup brand, named KJH. Brand! KJH will first be launching with a mega-watt Hyper Shine High Lite Kit inclusive of a highlighter pigment in one of three high-shine shades  — Lite Gold, Lite Pink, and Lite Copper — plus a Hyper Shine Serum and a signature No. 1 brush. We’re so here for this A-list-level glow.

The Ordinary Unveils a B12-powered serum

In the world of skincare, vitamin B12 is a bit of a hidden gem. We’re sure you’re well aquainted with retinol, vitamin C and hyaluronic acid-powered products, but B12 is the underrated ingredient offering up skin barrier support by remedying dry skin and reducing the appearance of redness. It also happens to be the star ingredient within The Ordinary’s new Soothing & Barrier Support Serum. In addition to providing  sad skin with all of the aforementioned benefits, this soothing serum also has one more impressive selling point we’ve got to credit B12 for. Drumroll, please… It’s pink! That’s right, this vitamin imparts a stunning pink hue. We’re not saying beauty products work better when they’re pretty in pink, but it sure makes doing skincare feel like more fun.

Bobbi Brown drops a conditioning collection of matte lipsticks

It’s time to kiss dry lips goodbye, because Bobbi Brown Cosmetics just unveiled a collection of non-drying matte lipsticks that are not a want but a need. Available in 12 stunning shades from soft nudes like “Downtown Rose” to rich reds like “Red Carpet”, these skincare-infused Luxe Matte Lipsticks were made for lipstick wearers that love the look of a sophisticated matte lip, but not the feeling of dryness that typically comes along with it. A lip-loving concoction of hyaluronic acid and flower extracts within each lipstick keeps lips smooth, soft, and conditioned, while the mattified pigments provide up to 10 hours of “colour-true” wear. Colour us obsessed.

Olaplex’s newest conditioner is a blonde’s dream

ICYMI: We’re in for a “nepo blonde” coloured fall. In order to banish brassiness and keep your blonde (or grey!) hair bright this season, purple products like Olaplex’s No. 5P Blonde Enhancer Toning Conditioner are a must-have. Although, this just-dropped conditioner is not your average purple conditioner. This baby is brimming with micro-fine purple pigments that ensure a brighter blonde sans unwanted yellow tones. Plus it’s infused with Olaplex’s signature Bond Building Technology so your hair will feel just as nourished and healthy as it is bright.

If quiet luxury is all about refined minimalism and elevated yet understated basics, perhaps no place holds more stealth wealth gems than your bathroom. The most intimate and private room of your abode is likely home to your most frequently used, holy grail beauty, grooming and personal care products. And just like a nondescript black baseball cap or a well-tailored suit, these items can say a lot about you. (Quietly, of course.)

RELATED: Succession Has Mastered the Art of Quiet Luxury

In fact, interest in personal care products is at an all-time high. While the pandemic was a major blow to makeup sales, other beauty categories — like oral care, skincare and hand soap — saw significant growth. At the time, the reasoning for this growth was clear (hello, we were stuck at home with nothing to do but wash our hands all day long), but in today’s post-pandemic world, the personal care category’s continued success is more surprising. Just this past April, L’Oréal Group acquired the king of chic hand soap, Aesop, in a massive deal that valued the skin- and body-care brand at a staggering $2.5 billion.

And it’s not just sales figures. Culturally, soap et al. are having a bit of a moment, too. Take, for example, the popular TikTok trend where creators sneak into their dates’ bathroom cabinets to rate (and read into) the type of soap, personal care, hair and body products they find. Too high-end and he might have a girlfriend. Too many run-of-the-mill products and he may not be into self-care. Hardly any personal care products at all? Run. (It’s a fine line.)

But wait — when did Gen Z become such hand soap and toothpaste connoisseurs? The newfound obsession could have something to do with the fact that we’re in the age of GRWM videos and the contents of creators’ bathrooms are constantly on display. Who wouldn’t want to show off a recently acquired taste for chic hand soap? Maybe it’s the Sofia Richie Grainge glow-up effect. Or perhaps we’re all longing to recreate what we imagine Shiv Roy‘s brushing, flossing and hand-washing routine to be.

What we know for sure is that when it comes to true stealth wealth, no other category does it quite as quietly as chic hand soap (and its close cousins, elevated oral care and luxe bathroom spray). These items are tucked away in your bathroom, never being seen by the outside world. And yet you know they’re waiting, in understated packaging, to greet you each evening to help you strip away the remnants of a long day with a wash, brush, floss and a spritz.

Perhaps quiet luxury lies not in GRWM videos, but in the get un-ready with me process when all is said and done.

Autumn is a season full of changes. The temperature is beginning its slow descent into negative numbers. The leaves are falling and turning from summery shades of green to moody shades of orange, yellow, and red. And there’s just something in the air that makes us feel like we’re due for change, too. And what better way to welcome said change, than with a freshly dyed head of hair.

As far as 2023 hair trends go, we’ve seen the rise of red hair and its many hues, have been on an endless pursuit to achieve the perfect slick back bun, and of course, we’ve seen a surge of blonde, too— courtesy of Barbie. This fall’s hair colour trend forecast includes but isn’t limited to: silky chocolate brown, nepo baby blonde, and cowgirl copper. Feeling like it’s about time to book your next hair appointment? Let these fall-ready hair colours serve as your inspiration.

Chocolate silk

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Jasmine Tookes (@jastookes)

As the moody atmosphere of the fall season sets in, is there any better time of year to be a glossy brunette? The universally gorgeous “chocolate silk” hair trend sure makes a case for going—or staying—dark this season. This rich shade of chocolate brown is able to remain relatively low maintenance due to its darker hue, while it still looks sophisticated and soft as silk. If you’re naturally brunette, booking a chocolate-coloured hair glaze treatment can help bring out that silky shine. Or, if you’ll be needing a full-on dye job, consider asking your hairstylist for a warm-toned dark brown shade with a subtle golden balayage for a bit of extra dimension, and more of a milk chocolate finish.

Nepo blonde

It costs to be blonde. No, really. Due to its expensive-looking (and truly expensive) glow, this trendy shade of bubbly blonde has earned itself the title of  “nepo blonde.”  You can’t tell exactly how many trips to the salon (or how much money), it may have taken to achieve this bombshell blonde, but the answer was probably a lot. Not to mention it has been spotted on real-life nepo babies like Lily-Rose Depp, Sofia Richie and Hailey Bieber. Nepo blonde seeks to bring that old money look to the rest of us.

“Very much moved on from Barbie blonde, now nepo blonde has a cleanness and clarity — but it’s still got shadows and dimensions through the hair,” shares celebrity hairstylist Tom Smith in a TikTok post. “This is all wrapped up in that quiet luxury, old money trend. So, this is actually utilizing foil work to get blonde all the way through your hair and then carefully shadowing different areas down and making sure that the condition is perfect.” The good news? Once you’ve committed to going nepo blonde, there are a ton of brass banishing hair products like purple shampoos and conditioners that’ll help us non-nepo babies stay bright and blonde on a budget.

Cowgirl copper

A post shared by Emily Ratajkowski (@emrata)

All year long, from the runways to the salon, we’ve been seeing red. And this fall calls for a particular shade of auburn now known as “cowgirl (or cowboy) copper”. Taking inspiration from the colours of the Wild West (think: rustic, worn-in leather) and current fashion trends like the return of cowboy boots, this copper shade lies at the intersection of red and brunette with a dash of bright blonde strung throughout. Loving this look already? Take notes (and screenshots!) from pros like Hair by Chrissy on TikTok who shared her *exact* cowboy copper formula with her millions of TikTok followers.

With Megan Fox taking the plunge and transforming her copper tresses into a “red velvet bob” earlier this week, we wonder if cowgirl copper is the last step for redheads before winter brings in even bolder, cherry-coloured shades for the holidays.

The new bronde

As its name suggests, bronde is the colour trend that’s not quite brown, but not quite blonde either. Instead, it finds a happy medium so that you can truly have the best of both worlds. “The new bronde that we’re seeing for autumn is really inspired by what we’ve seen from ‘expensive brunette’ and ‘expensive blonde,'” shares hair expert Smith in another TikTok post. “It’s got that real finely woven, multitonal characteristic. But whats most interesting is rather than more caramelly auburn tones that we were seeing in bronde previously, this is shifting much more into the deeper golds.” With this more blonde-leaning bronde expected to trend this season, anyone who went Barbie blonde this summer can seamlessly transition to this shade next. “The previous bronde might have been more suited to natural brunettes or people who wore their hair quite dark but wanted to play with going a bit lighter. The new bronde is more about showing blondes what they could have if they were a little bit deeper,” says Smith.

The subtle money piece

A post shared by Neal Farinah (@nealfarinah)

If you’ve been wary of trying out the money piece hair trend from the ’90s that involves streaking face-framing pieces of hair with high-contrast highlights, this next trend may be the more to your taste. Introducing: subtle money pieces, a more approachable take on the statement style as seen on celebrities like Beyoncé this year. What truly separates this softer version from the OG is its intensity. Instead of that chunky highlighted look you may envision when you hear the words “money piece”, ask your stylist for subtle highlights that still shine around the perimeter of your face, but continue to melt into the rest of your hair to create a softer look. With Queen Bey as your inspo, you can’t go wrong.

Paying homage to one of the chicest addresses in all of Paris, Chanel Beauty has unveiled a stunning line of lipsticks named after 31 Rue Cambon — the birthplace of Chanel.

This exquisite collection boasts a 12-shade range taking colour cues from the brand’s heritage. Each bullet is infused with a smoothing oil drawn from the gardenia flower — which also lends itself to the scent of each lipstick — cultivated by the French fashion house itself. “At the Makeup Creation Studio, we not only drew on the Chanel heritage, but we also absorbed the atmosphere of the couture ateliers that provided a lot of inspiration — the colours of this lipstick are our interpretation of Creation at 31 Rue Cambon,” shares Nathalie Lasnet, director of the Chanel Makeup Creation Studio. “This new lipstick is the quintessence of our colour expertise.”

Shades like “Rouge 2.55” reflect the lining of an iconic Chanel purse, while colours like “Rouge Fétiche” are an ode to Madame Chanel herself, who wore crimson flannel ribbons of the same hue around her ankles. With a shade for every occasion, you can sift through this collection to find your ideal fit, as you would inside a Chanel closet.

“In the makeup Creation Studio, we also kept the Chanel spirit of creation in mind, thinking about the atmosphere in the ateliers, the extraordinary people that work there, their expertise, and their desire for excellence — it really is the pulse of the house,” says Lasnet. “The most striking point, is that Cambon is above all an exceptional place of life, creation, excellence and constant excitement, that looks resolutely to the future, and this is reflected in 31 Le Rouge.”

This launch also marks the first Chanel lipsticks to be housed in glass packaging, which were four years in the making under the creative guidance of a master Japanese glassmaker. On the outside, its faceted casing draws inspiration from the mirrors that line the staircase within the 31 Rue Cambon shop. Inside, glass meets metal to make for a refillable and interchangeable product.

“Gabrielle Chanel used to say, ‘Add more lipstick and attack.’ For us, lipstick is a statement — it embodies a woman’s choice to be whatever she wants to be,” says Lasnet. Armed with a 31 Le Rouge Lipstick in your handbag, you’ll truly feel like you can.

My Journey to Self-Love: How I Learned to Embrace My Beach Body https://fashionmagazine.com/sponsored-content/venus-how-i-learned-to-love-my-beach-body/ Fri, 01 Sep 2023 13:00:51 +0000 https://fashionmagazine.com/?p=472284 Let’s rip up the rule books on what makes a body worthy of a bikini, because any body is a beach body.

The post My Journey to Self-Love: How I Learned to Embrace My Beach Body appeared first on FASHION Magazine.

The Gillette Venus for Pubic Hair & Skin Gentle Trimmer was named the winner of the Best Hair Removal Product category in the 2023 Beauty Awards.

As a kid growing up in the late ’90s, I constantly felt self-conscious about my body. Diet commercials played 24-7 and trendy workout videotapes were in every household. It seemed no one around me was happy with their body the way it was, which taught me that there must be something wrong with my own body. Specifically, I was concerned about my round belly. I fantasized about waking up with a flat stomach and washboard abs à la Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. By 13, I was avoiding all my favourite snacks and doing stomach crunches in my bedroom every evening. I felt desperate to be thin. I criticized myself for years, when in fact, there wasn’t anything wrong with me. What was wrong was the message society was sending me: because I wasn’t a size 0, I wasn’t worthy of feeling beautiful or sexy.

It wasn’t until I was 25 that I even considered wearing a bikini in public, and that was all thanks to body-positive influencer Gabi Gregg, aka Gabi Fresh, who coined the term “fatkini.” I remember seeing one of her blog posts, featuring pictures of her in a beautiful retro-style bikini. I was in awe of how gorgeous she looked and thought about how liberating it would feel to bare my own belly in public. So when I was packing for a family vacation to Grenada, I shoved my first bikini into my luggage. I liked how I looked in it when I tried it on at the store. But when we arrived at our vacation rental, the idea of wearing it out in public suddenly felt very daunting. I was filled with hesitation. What if people stare? What if someone insults my body and my confidence comes crashing down?

I know I’m not alone in how I felt at that moment. According to a study done by Gillette Venus, one third of Canadian women feel uncomfortable being in swimwear in public* and 79 per cent of Canadian women have avoided swimwear due to being uncomfortable in it in front of others.* And it’s not just about our weight—a lot of women are self-conscious about body hair, which can also prevent them from strutting their stuff on the beach. While, 90 per cent of Canadian women shave when they anticipate having to put on swimwear*, whether you choose to remove hair or rock it au naturel is up to you. Others’ opinions should never keep you from living your most liberated, confident life.

The day I finally wore my bikini to the beach, no one batted an eye. In fact, a stranger told me I looked beautiful. It turns out you don’t need a special diet or workout secret to have a beach body. The only things I need today are swimwear that makes me feel sexy, protective SPF and skin-loving Venus products, like the Venus for Pubic Hair & Skin Gentle Trimmer. The Venus range is perfect for any body with or without hair since it’s all about loving the skin you’re in and taking good care of it.

It’s been 10 years since I discovered the body-positive movement and found the confidence to rock any type of swimwear, and sadly, diet culture is making a sneaky comeback. But I refuse to go back in time. Join me and Venus this summer in ripping up the old-fashioned rulebook. Want the ultimate beach body? Grab a cute swimsuit, slap on some SPF, and grab the Venus products that make you feel comfortable in your skin. There you have it—you’ve got a beach body!

Shop for Gillette Venus at GilletteVenus.ca or scroll through the shoppable gallery below.

*Methodology: From May 1 to May 5 2023, Gillette Venus conducted an online survey among a representative sample of 1,007 Canadian women ages 18-34, balanced and weighted on age and gender. All respondents were members of the online Angus Reid Forum. For comparison purposes only, a sample of this size would yield a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.

Purple blush may be currently having a moment, but purple hair products never go out of style for blondes.

To understand the magic of purple haircare for blonde babes, let’s get into a little bit of colour theory. On the colour wheel, you’ll find that yellow and purple are direct opposites — making them complementary colours. So, when a bright, cool-toned shade of blonde hair begins to fade or develops a warmer undertone after a few washes post-dye, purple pigment is needed to counteract those orange and yellow undertones that can make blonde hair look brassy. Essentially, purple hair products operate as toners to neutralize lighter colours like blonde, grey and silver (or even dark hair with blonde highlights!) and restore brightness.

If blondes get to incorporate gorgeous lilac-hued shampoos and deep violet conditioners into their haircare routines then perhaps they really do have more fun. Ahead, you’ll find 10 purple hair products that anyone with blonde hair needs to know and shop.

The key to this tone-correcting product is the violet pigments that enhance the depth and dimension of blonde, grey and even lightened brunette hair, while rich desert botanical ingredients like cactus flower extract strengthen hair strands and protect against breakage.

After a very pink last couple of summers — courtesy of Valentino Pink PP and the Barbie-fication of quite literally everything possible  — we welcome purple blush, the latest colour trend to strike the beauty space.

The colour payoff of these purple hues reads surprisingly wearable (just look to Rihanna for inspiration), with flattering options all along the purple spectrum for every skin tone.

Ahead, we’ve gathered 10 of the best purple blush shades to shop — in all of your favourite formulas.

Beyoncé’s glam is always on point, and the Renaissance Tour beauty looks she’s serving during each performance are no exception. While her out-of-this-world outfits continue to generate major buzz throughout the tour, the hair and makeup has absolutely been the cherry on top.

RELATED: Beyoncé Continues to Give Nothing But High Fashion on Tour

Thanks to the work of hairstylist Neal Farinah and makeup artist Rokael Lizama, we’ve been blessed with some of the most fantastic hair and makeup looks Bey has rocked to date. From a masterclass in bouncy hair to endless iterations of glittering shadow, it’s been an all-out beauty buffet.

Scroll on to see some of the most iconic Renaissance tour beauty looks from the current North American leg.

Toronto, Ontario

A post shared by Neal Farinah (@nealfarinah)

To kick things off in North America, Beyoncé wowed Toronto concert-goers with a head-to-toe sparkly look and loose mermaid waves. A wash of silver glitter on the lids matched her crystal-encrusted Fendi dress, and the sharp wing and full, fluffy lashes kept all the focus on her eyes. Makeup artist Rokael Lizama used her brand, Rokael Beauty’s individual lashes in Lunar Lites and Aurora Lites along with wing cluster lashes to create the fanned-out effect.

Chicago, Illinois

A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce)

Keeping with the theme of glittering shadows, Bey’s Chicago look blended mermaidcore with space cowboy chic for one of the tour’s most attention-grabbing glam moments. The star wore a Tiffany-blue iridescent shadow on her lids and the rest of the makeup was pared-back and pretty (think hydrated skin and a touch of gloss on the lips).

A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce)

We would be remiss not to mention Bey’s excellent crimped hair in Chicago, which captured the ‘70s disco vibes of the night. We never thought we’d be adding a crimping iron to our beauty wishlist in 2023, and yet here we are.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

A post shared by R O K A E L (@rokaelbeauty)

Nothing says glamour quite like a smokey eye, and Beyoncé showed us how it’s done in Philly. For the first U.S. show of the tour, the singer stunned silvery smoked-out shadow and lashes for days. Voluminous hair, matte skin and a neutral mauve lip maintained the look’s timeless appeal.

Nashville, Tennessee

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce)

We’ve been waiting for a lip-focused look, and Queen Bey did not disappoint in Tennessee. The shiny, fire engine red lip was a stroke of monochromatic genius, and the sparkly gold lids were a perfect complement to her honey blonde locks. We stan a colour-coordinated queen.

New York City

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Neal Farinah (@nealfarinah)

Smooth, glossy waves had a serious moment during Bey’s NYC performance. Paired with rosy cheeks, neutral shadow and a knockout Marc Jacobs dress, the look embodied classic Hollywood starlet in all the right ways.

Detroit, Michigan

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce)

Category is: dripping in gold in Detroit. For this gilded look, Lizama dusted Bey’s lids with plenty of shimmering gold shadow, and her skin was dewy, bronzed and generally fabulous. Combined with the already iconic sparkling hooded gown, it’s a tour look for the books. Speaking of: when are we getting a tour lookbook?

East Rutherford, New Jersey

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce)

Bey was pretty in peach in East Rutherford, NJ, wearing the barely-there shade on her eyes, lips and cheeks. Darker shadow on the outer corners of the lids gave the look dimension, while her voluminous blowout tied everything together for an effortless effect.

Boston, Massachusetts

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Neal Farinah (@nealfarinah)

Beyoncé’s Massachusetts look consisted of big, shiny blonde hair, bold red lips and seriously over-the-top accessories, and we’re certainly not mad about it. The star rocked a glittering bronze shadow on her lids behind her incredible cat-eye sunnies, adding an extra layer of drama to the full look. This Renaissance tour beauty look screamed Old Hollywood glamour, with a camp twist.

Minneapolis, Minnesota

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Neal Farinah (@nealfarinah)

Don’t get us wrong, we’re head-over-heels for Bey’s luscious waves, but there’s something so captivating about the ultra-long, poker straight hair the singer rocked in Minneapolis. We can’t get over the sleek and shiny look, which she also sported in NYC and New Jersey. More hair flips, please.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce)

This Y2K-esque look was everything we adore when it comes to concert glamour: metallic, sparkly and over-the-top. Bey’s lips and cheeks were flushed with a touch of pink, and a razor sharp wing gave the eyes just the right amount of edge. It’s giving Renaissance Barbie, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Charlotte, North Carolina

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce)

When the “Heated” singer told us in the lyrics of the song that her “face card never declines,” she meant every single word. Showing a little Southern love for Charlotte, Bey dazzled beneath stage lights with a gold-to-purple glitter lid look complete with a thin swipe of black winged liner and a pink pout.

Atlanta, Georgia

A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce)

To match the ethereal energy of Beyoncé’s lemon-lime hooded couture gown designed by Gaurav Gupta, MUA Lizama seized the opportunity to play with colour for the pop star’s Atlanta glam. Our eyes were instantly drawn to the lids, where glittery green eyeshadow met hints of gold. Again, Lunar Lites and Aurora Lites falsies pulled the whole look together with a bold, wispy flair.

Phoenix, Arizona

A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce)

We’ve got two words to sum up Bey’s Phoenix look: Body. Glitter. As she should, this Virgo kicked off her prime astrological season doused in golden body glitter that glistened with her every move. Lizama took a glowy, soft glam approach to the singer’s face and eye makeup, while hairstylist Farinah straightened her honey blonde strands to create that signature, sleek look once again.

Las Vegas, Nevada

They say that what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas — but we’re more than grateful that this show-stopping look made it to the Gram. Miss Carter pulled out all the stops for Sin City, where she wore a regal red number by Atelier Zuhra with a cape that doubled as the ultimate hair accessory, and jewel-toned makeup to match. They don’t call her Queen Bey for nothing.

Music stadium tours are known for being many things. (Think intense, physically demanding and long.) An opportunity for makeup experimentation and complex beauty looks? Not so much — unless you’re Alexx Mayo, that is. The makeup artist has been working with singer and rapper Lizzo for the past six years, and during that time, he has created countless show-stopping looks that have solidified him as one of the most impressive celebrity makeup artists working today. At the end of July, Mayo completed a 10-month-long run of doing Grammy Award winner Lizzo’s makeup for The Special Tour, which was in support of her album Special.

RELATED: Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour Beauty Looks Are Pure Perfection

“Somebody recently told me that they can’t think of another artist who has changed their look on tour as much as Lizzo has,” says Mayo over the phone. “I thought of icons like Madonna, Janet and Cher, and I realized it’s true. They each have a look that’s specifically designed for a tour, and it’s very consistent. You know what the look is going to be every night.” Mayo, on the other hand, comes up with Lizzo’s varied makeup looks on the morning of each show. And we’re not talking about deciding between winged eyeliner and a smoky eye. Lizzo’s The Special Tour makeup has included multicoloured polka dots rising up to her forehead, neon negative-space eyeliner and a graphic cat-eye topped with glued-on black stars. “I was wrapping a gift for someone and had extra confetti stars from the craft store,” says Mayo of the celestial look. “I thought they could be useful.”

It’s not that Mayo intentionally avoids repeating makeup looks — “it’s just organic, in-the-moment creativity,” he says. His star client’s unwavering confidence helps, too. “There’s no mirror in front of Lizzo while I work,” says Mayo. “So she has no idea what she looks like during the process, but she has the confidence to know that she can rock anything. I think that that attitude helps everyone on the team, too.” While the vibe in the makeup room is free-flowing and creative, both Mayo and Lizzo have just one non-negotiable: Each look has to be finished with false lashes. Mayo relies on Ardell’s vast selection of lash styles to help execute his artistic vision each night. “I just love the glitz and glam of false lashes,” says Mayo. “They help Lizzo emote when she’s performing.”

Mayo started wearing makeup himself at age 14, around the same time he came out as gay, but he certainly wasn’t donning the vibrant looks he’s known for creating today. “I hung out with the punk and goth kids,” says Mayo. “We were all really misunderstood, and makeup was my way of expressing my sadness and anger. I thought that wearing dark eyeliner and eyeshadow would make people back off from me and my sexuality — and it worked.” So how does one go from being a misunderstood goth kid in Los Lunas, N.M., to the go-to celebrity makeup artist for bright, vibrant looks? “It’s the music,” he says. “The makeup is what Lizzo’s music sounds like to me. When Paco Rabanne dropped its first name to become ‘Rabanne’ at the start of the summer, we knew that more major changes were soon to follow. Now, two months into the brand’s new era of modern minimalism, Rabanne makes its first foray into the world of luxury beauty. Rabanne Makeup introduces a futuristic yet nostalgic collection of cosmetics: “Eyephoria,” for the eyes, “Rouge Rabanne,” for the lips, “Nudes,” for a luminous complexion, and “Arts Factory,” to satisfy your inner creative with a selection of unparalleled, art-inspired products. True to the brand, these high-performance products are housed in glossy gold and silver packaging inspired by the Spanish fashion house itself — with iconic motifs like the metallic 1969 bag and signature XL link jewelry strung throughout the collection. Tower 28 enters the world of concealer

When you’re talking about drying, cakey concealers that crease under the eye, leave Tower 28’s latest launch out of the conversation. Fusing the texture of a serum with the coverage of a traditional complexion product, the Swipe Serum Concealer provides a seamless stroke of medium, buildable coverage that reads like skin. Brought to life with the help of celebrity makeup artist Kirin Bhatty, this sensitive skin-safe concealer is packed with hyaluronic acid and centella asiatica leaf to ensure a smooth, hydrating application that doesn’t stick to dry patches. In addition, the lysine and amino acid that coats the pigments within this concealer promote collagen production and prevent dryness. Available in 20 shades, this launch is a must-have for those with dryer skin types.

“TikTok taught me!” is not a phrase I ever thought I’d use frequently. But, alas, it’s the plain truth — especially in the case of beauty tips and tricks.

One month I’m learning how to makeup-proof my sunglasses and channel supermodel energy using blush, the next I’m hacking hat hair and braids in a breeze — all thanks to TikTok, of course. This month, I’ve been fixated on game-changing makeup techniques like “ombré concealer” and “floating contour.” Plus, I finally learned how to fit all my curls into one claw clip. Who knew TikTok would be such a great teacher?

RELATED: 12 Volumizing Products to Give Short Hair a Serious Boost

Below, we break down five must-know TikTok beauty hacks to try this month, and all the products you’ll need to carry them out successfully.

Change the way you do makeup with the “ombré concealer” technique

@makeupbytammi

Ombre concealer trend! I actually love how this turned out! 😍🙌🏾 #ombreconcealer #blushtrend #makeuphacks #makeupchallenge #blackgirlmakeup

♬ Little Girl Gone – CHINCHILLA

If there’s one TikTok trend I haven’t been able to escape lately, it’s ombré concealer. With every refresh of my For You Page, video clips of ultra-bright under eyes that seamlessly blend into playful pink cheekbones have certainly reached their target audience. Odds are your favourite #beautytok creators have given in to this technique, too. As you would imagine with a name like “ombré,” this trend involves creating a gradient combination of concealer and liquid blush under the eye for a luminous look that blends out flawlessly and all at once.

Perfectly executed by TikToker @makeupbytammi, this technique begins by building up your light to dark ombré pattern with your lightest concealer at the inner corner, followed by a slightly darker shade, a light-coloured liquid blush, and then your deepest blush on the outer corner. Then, blend the products together using a brush or beauty blender, moving from the inner corner outward, ensuring each section has been thoroughly diffused before moving on to the next. That way, you’ll achieve the seamless finish that makes this trick so impressive. Ombré away!

Hack the claw clip look for curls

As a curly girl, I know all about the claw clip struggles we face. If you’ve got longer, thicker hair that just won’t seem to fit in the clip, it can feel like this trendy hair accessory simply isn’t for us. That is, until I stumbled upon the above TikTok video by creator @thelaurynicole in which she shares the secret to containing her curls with ease using one hair tie and one clip. First, she begins by pulling her hair into a low ponytail, but instead of pulling all of her curls through on the final loop, she creates a mini-bun and leaves the rest of her hair out. Next, she adds the claw clip on top of the bun and lets the excess curls flow out of it, giving the illusion of having used the clip in the traditional way. And there you have it, your claw clip has officially been curl-certified.

If you’ve always felt no claw clip could contain your thick curls, look no further than Kitsch’s Jumbo Bow hair clips. Made with recycled plastic, these salon-quality clips are as chic as they are practical.

Achieve a softly snatched look with “floating contour”

It’s easy to get carried away with contouring in search of sharp, chiselled cheekbones, but this month I’ve been convinced by celebrity makeup artist Melissa Murdick that less may very well be more. In a video the MUA posted to TikTok, she reveals a contouring technique being referred to on the app as “floating contour.” The makeup trick involves applying a dab of cream contour right into the hollow of the cheek, as opposed to a full stripe of product along the cheekbone. From there, you can gently blend both upwards and inwards along the cheekbone to create a more soft, naturally contoured look. “If you have a round face [or] if you’ve got a heart-shaped face, this is a much better contour spot for you because again it’s just not going to give you that stripe-y weird look,” shares Murdick. As the artist responsible for many of Selena Gomez‘s best glam looks as of late, we’ll take this advice in a heartbeat.

This dual-ended contour stick packs celebrity makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic’s signature contour technique into one convenient tube. On one end, you’ve got your creamy shaping stick. On the other, an angled brush to help you bring your “floating contour” look to life.

DIY your own French tip nail stickers

@.sooz

If you dont do this hack then youre asking for a bad time #nailtutorial #nailtech #nails

♬ Chill Vibes – Tollan Kim

Freehanding your own French tips, or any nail design for that matter, is no easy feat. Instead, DIY nail hacks like this French tip sticker trick by TikTok user @.sooz make at-home manicures much easier to achieve. All you’ll need to do is paint a few thick swatches of white nail polish with a rounded edge onto to a palette — or any solid surface you don’t mind getting messy — and allow them to dry. Once dry, peel them off and cut the rounded side to your desired French tip look and length before adding the “sticker” to your nail. Melt the excess polish off using nail polish remover and a Q-Tip, and you’ve successfully completed this DIY. “Studies show that this hack has caused a decrease in frustration levels by 100% — that’s all the frustration gone, girl,” shares the creator at the end of her tutorial. Now let’s all breathe a collective sigh of relief.

Get the perfect inner corner eyeliner every time with this technique

Nothing adds a little sultry flair to a makeup look like an exaggerated inner corner. And not to be dramatic, but after learning this beauty trick posted by Canadian content creator @FRO (which racked up three million views, btw) you may never not do your eyeliner like this again. As demonstrated in her video, simply pinch either side of your nose to stretch the inner corner of your eyes to achieve an ultra-fine and precise swipe of eyeliner as you apply the product. When you release your nose, you’ll reveal a seductive eye look that only took a few seconds to create. Fast, and fierce.

Maybelline’s Hyper Easy Liquid Eyeliner is just that — a foolproof liquid liner that anyone can use. Plus, its flex tip applicator ensures there’ll be no skips or gaps as you’re drawing on your inner corner liner for this hack.

As demonstrated in this TikTok by Alissa Janay, when both liners are layered next to one another the result is a high-contrast look that is sure to turn heads.

As seen on the Dior Couture Spring Summer 2022 runway, the French fashion and beauty house took classic winged liner and gave it an editorial upgrade — and we haven’t stopped thinking about it since. “I took up the theme of signature makeup with an ‘underliner,’ this time in a pure vivid white, sharp line,” shared Peter Phillips, creative and image director for Dior Makeup, with Allure. The look is simpler than you’d think; all you’ll need is a white pencil liner along the waterline and a liquid liner tracing the under-eye and inner corner to get this runway-approved look.

Following Phillips’ advice, you’ll want Dior’s Diorshow On Stage Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in your makeup kit if you plan on “underlining,” any time soon. Its felt tip disperses a vivid blast of colour with a matte finish that won’t budge. No wonder the pros love it.

“It’s OK; September is always pretty warm, too!”

This phrase has been on the tip of my tongue, making a near-constant appearance lately, as August approaches its end. It’s my immediate, automatic response to any mention of summer being “almost over” (horrible) or crisp autumn days being “just around the corner” (cruel and unnecessary). No longer able to hide the sheer desperation in my voice, which reveals itself through hurried sentences and shaky optimism, I unconvincingly declare that we have plenty of warm days to look forward to.

RELATED: Pistachio Perfumes Are This Summer’s Most Unexpected Fragrance Trend

In case this proves to be untrue, there is still one other foolproof method to holding onto—and, dare I say it, even extending—the final moments of the season. Enter: coconut perfume. You know, the fragrances that smell like the best parts of summer: fresh coconut water, sunscreen at the pool, an overflowing piña colada dripping down your hand as you carry your drink back to your sandy beach towel.

These scents take us back to lazy days spent lounging on sunny shores, the hypnotizing sound of waves lulling us into a midday nap, and the feeling of warm sand beneath our toes. Perfectly summery, coconut-y perfumes are a delicate balance between sunscreen’s familiarity and the creamy sweetness of coconut, the crisp tang of salty sea air, and the subtle hints of warm, sun-drenched skin. For summer-lovers, there is will never be an olfactory experience quite as evocative as a day spent at the beach.

Prepare to drown out any claims of summer being “over” with a spritz or two of our favourite coconut-y, sunscreen-y, beachy fragrances, which you can shop below.

The post High-Tech Skincare Devices Are Taking Over — Here’s Why appeared first on FASHION Magazine.

This article was originally published on January 17, 2023 and has been updated.

Oh, the bliss of at-home skincare rituals. To our beloved sheet masks, under eye patches and facial rollers: You’ve been a delight, but this year we’re due for an upgrade. Do-it-yourself skincare devices are calling and we must answer for the betterment of our self-care regimens — and faces.

Though we still love getting facials, the evolution of at-home skincare technology — think LED masks and microcurrent devices — is showing no sign of slowing down. These at-home and user-friendly devices give us the freedom to DIY many of the treatments traditionally reserved for trained professionals, allowing red and blue-lit LED face masks to target acne or hand-held tools charged by microcurrent to sculpt away at the hollows of our cheeks.

RELATED: This Luxe New Serum Marries Skincare and Psychology

At this intersection of beauty and technology, there are passionate advocates for these take-home tools like JJ Walsh, founder of Vancouver’s Formula Fig, the lush green-tiled beauty bar new to Toronto and Los Angeles. Walsh tells FASHION that Formula Fig’s skincare educators and experts encourage the use of these devices to expedite the healing of treatments carried out in the salon such as laser or nano-needling. And like many other beauty trends, says Walsh, the growth in take-home skincare tech is a byproduct of the pandemic.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Formula Fig (@formulafig)

Walsh has labeled this at-home skincare tool phenomenon the “mimic clinic effect” — a recreation of treatments typically carried out in professional settings being used within the comfort of your own bathroom instead. Where self-care is concerned, comfort and convenience are major factors, so the ease of skincare devices that deliver impressive results at home make them worthy of becoming routine regulars. “Pairing these devices with highly active skincare [such as firming creams or lifting serums] in turn offers incredible results, quickly,” says Toronto-based facialist Vee Mistry. “With visible results, customers are more likely to remain dedicated to these tools.”

But the DIY skincare devices on the market are ever-changing, making it difficult to determine exactly what each one does, how it does it, and whether or not it works. The pros agree that the most popular and worthwhile tools on the market are those that use LED lights, microcurrent and cryotherapy. Read on we as unpack the science behind this trendy trio of DIY treatments and their skincare benefits.

LED light therapy

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Omnilux (@omniluxled)

LED light therapy uses varying wavelengths of light, including red and blue light frequencies, to combat skin concerns including acne and inflammation. Red light treats the epidermis (the outermost layer of the skin), which absorbs said light and begins to stimulate collagen proteins. The more active collagen is in the skin, the more plump and smooth it appears, which means wrinkles and fine lines will be less visible. Blue light is aimed at the sebaceous glands (oil glands) located beneath the hair follicles which, when overactive, can cause oilier skin and acne. To remedy breakouts, blue light seeps into the skin and slows these overactive glands. Plus, it can also destroy acne-causing bacteria. “It improves skin tone and texture, reduces breakouts and flare-ups, and helps to overall firm and brighten,” says Walsh of LED light therapy, which she adds can also be used to stimulate healing after procedures such as laser.

Microcurrent

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by NuFACE (@mynuface)

As for tech fuelled by microcurrent, what you’ll experience during use is a painless, repeated delivery of low-grade electrical currents that mimic the natural ionic flow of the body and awaken the facial muscles. Think of it as an at-home facelift of sorts, minus the whole surgical aspect. “By using a facial ‘workout’ device frequently and consistently, it stimulates facial muscles to help tone and lift, plus allows the products you apply afterward to work harder,” explains Walsh.

Cryotherapy

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by SKINBYVEE (@_skinbyvee_)

Cryotherapy is a soothing technique that constricts blood flow to calm the skin while regulating circulation and tightening pores. The anti-inflammatory at-home alternative to clinical cryo facials (where liquid nitrogen is involved) often requires the storing of your tools in a freezer. Freezing temperatures cause blood vessels to contract, so once your skin returns to its normal temperature these vessels dilate swiftly and increase the flow of blood and oxygen to the face. This rush promotes the appearance of brighter, tighter, glowing skin that is also less swollen. So, freezing your cryo tools is absolutely essential if you want to achieve the look of a true “frotox.”

Many of the devices available for at-home use target multiple skin concerns at once (which can limit your spending on several devices), like Mistry’s two-in-one facial tool that combines the benefits of cryotherapy with a gua sha. “Our own SkinByVee Gua Sha Cryo Sticks support in sculpting, lifting, cooling and soothing inflammation, leaving the skin more balanced and controlled, and [stimulate increased] collagen and elastin production.”

As you experiment with high-tech at-home skincare devices, remember we’re talking real technology here. That means there can be consequences for misuse, which is why Mistry recommends having a pro set up your tools and demonstrate how to best use them for optimal results. Not to mention, your skincare devices should be kept clean to avoid causing breakouts and introducing bacteria — especially if your tool exfoliates, abrades, or punctures the skin (think: microneedling derma rollers), Walsh warns. Consult with your aesthetician for advice about any devices that may conflict with health concerns or other procedures you’ve had. For example, if you’ve used Botox recently, Walsh advises waiting two weeks before picking up a microcurrent device.

Finally, experts warn against putting too much pressure on these tools to perform. “I always remind my clients that beauty tools and skincare are only one part of the jigsaw puzzle,” Mistry shares. “To get your best skin, you must focus on the organ as an entire entity — that means we must look at overall health, sleep, nutrition, using the correct skin care prescription and lastly, commitment. These are the important pieces for lasting results!”

“Aging can be frustrating and intimidating,” says Dr. Patricia Ogilvie, scientist, dermatologist and founder of Munich’s Skin Concept. “It also happens to be fascinating from a scientific standpoint.” Ogilvie was one of a handful of globally renowned skincare and scientific research experts in attendance at a conference hosted by Dior in the south of France to present the brand’s newest launch, Dior Prestige Le Nectar Premier.

RELATED: Dior Debuts a Dreamy Spa at Hôtel Du Cap-Eden-Roc + More Beauty News

The breakthrough formula is a massive undertaking, not only because it’s the brand’s first serum that’s able to address all three visible dimensions of skin aging (volume loss, texture changes and discoloration) but because it’s backed by research conducted by Dior’s Reverse Aging board, which includes experts in the fields of dermatology, life sciences and even psychology. In a recent 5,000-person study about age perception, Dior Science found that 80 per cent of men and women aged 18 to 80 fully accept their age. Better yet, 95 per cent of participants said they feel younger than they are. “This speaks to the progress that science and medicine have made,” says Ogilvie.

Even so, 97 per cent of participants revealed that if given the opportunity, they would choose to be — not just look — younger. Ogilvie says this is due to a growing discrepancy between chronological age (how old you are) and biological age (how old your cells are), especially for women. “As a dermatologist, I meet women every day who feel younger than the generations before them did at their age,” she says. These patients have enjoyed great accomplishments and excelled in their careers but tell Ogilvie that they don’t necessarily see this vitality being reflected in their appearance. “Reverse aging, from my perspective, means closing the gap between how we feel and how we look,” says Ogilvie. “Bringing these two elements closer together is empowering.”

Le Nectar Premier is able to stop senescence before it happens, reverting skin to a past version of itself.

Of course, there are two main ways to target — and reverse — signs of aging: injectables and skincare products. In the latter category, Le Nectar Premier specifically targets senescent cells, a relatively recent discovery of cells that are not quite young (that is, dividing and constantly creating new cells) or old (and thus discarded by the body). They exist in a problematic in-between state that speeds up skin’s aging process. “Cellular senescence is an irreversible state in which cells stop performing major functions,” says Dr. Laure Crabbe-Vert, a scientific coordinator at LVMH Recherche. The stressor at the root of senescence is glyoxal, which can be found in food, drinks, pollution and textiles. “It triggers skin cells to release certain molecules, forming an age signal network,” says Crabbe-Vert. “This molecular pathway spreads the message of aging to surrounding cells and amplifies the impact of senescence.”

Le Nectar Premier is able to stop senescence before it happens, reverting skin to a past version of itself. “After a month of use, it’s like the fine lines of the past seven years never existed,” says Virginie Couturaud, Dior’s scientific communications director.

So, what’s the difference between an anti-aging product and a reverse-aging product? “I’ve never liked the term ‘anti-aging,’” says Ogilvie. “It’s a resistance to something that’s inevitable. And it doesn’t fully encompass the opportunities that science provides us with today. By reprogramming the aging process of cells, we can actually make them behave younger. Reverse aging helps people live the period of their life in which they felt the best, for longer.”

It is true, after all, that the skincare industry would cease to exist — let alone grow and expand at its current astonishing rate — if its results were merely skin deep. “When we improve the surface, it goes way beyond the surface,” says Ogilvie. “It has a deep psychological impact.”

If you’ve tried Ilia’s original Super Serum Skin Tint, you’ll understand why the brand’s latest launch is so exciting. Not only does the SPF-laced tinted serum offer an exceptional dewy finish, but it does a great job of shielding the skin from sun damage, too. Now, the Ilia C-Beyond Triple Serum SPF combines SPF 40 with two per cent niacinamide and 10 per cent vitamin C to double down on the skincare benefits. While this trio usually doesn’t play well together, each of the ingredients are encapsulated in a waterless base to keep them stable, meaning you’ll get the freshest, most potent application every time.

Wildcraft gets into haircare

Indigenous-owned beauty brand Wildcraft just launched a dreamy new eucalyptus- and mint-scented shampoo and conditioner duo, formulated with loads of plant extracts to cleanse, soften and strengthen strands without the use of harsh ingredients. The shampoo is infused with ingredients like quinoa protein, yucca root and green tea extract to care for the scalp, while the conditioner includes shine-boosting chamomile and calendula to deeply hydrate ends.

We’re halfway through 2023 and this year’s perfume launches have stirred up plenty of excitement. From revamped classics to niche scents inspired by memorable pop culture moments (more on that later), the world of fragrance is in full bloom.

RELATED: 13 Fragrances and Candles That Smell Like a European Vacation

But what separates a good perfume from an absolute showstopper? It’s hard to say. More often than not, a scent can unearth a fond memory or even remind you of a place you dream of visiting. Either way, trying on a new fragrance is like stepping into a time machine: it either takes you back or flings you forward.

Ready to go for a ride? Here, the best new perfumes of 2023, including scents from YSL, Tom Ford, Cacharel and more.

Perfumehead at Holt Renfrew

Have you met Perfumehead yet? If not, allow us to introduce you. Launched in the fall of 2022, this Los Angeles-based niche fragrance brand has gained quite the reputation for its cinematic approach to scent. Think fragrances inspired by David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, or Britney and Justin’s unforgettable double denim moment at the AMAs (that’s the coriander, cumin and tonka-infused Canadian Tuxedo, for those wondering). Founder Daniel Patrick Giles — who began his career at Holt Renfrew — built each of the seven extraits de parfum in Perfumehead’s collection as scents you can layer, inspired by the “osmocosm”—“osmo” meaning scent and “cosmo” as in universe. And in a delightful full circle moment, the brand is now exclusively available in Canada at Holts.

Juicy Viva La Juicy Sucré

All it takes is a glance at the bottle to understand that this fragrance is for the die-hard gourmand fans, if the name didn’t give it away immediately. Juicy Couture’s latest, Viva La Juicy Sucré is everything sweet rolled into one: think juicy mandarin, peach nectar, and fresh gardenia, topped with a layer of vanilla icing, a generous dollop of whipped cream and a pinch of cocoa powder. Hungry yet?

Chanel Chance Eau Fraîche Eau de Parfum

If you’re a fan of Chanel’s OG Chance fragrance, you’ll adore this summery twist on the scent. Made with a blend of zesty citrus, teak wood and jasmine, it’s comforting and fresh all at once.

Florence by Mills Wildly Me

Millie Bobby Brown is entering the celebrity fragrance world with an earthy new scent, and it’s a fitting addition to Brown’s ultra-popular clean beauty line, Florence By Mills. Wildly Me combines fresh bergamot and sage with woody sandalwood and tons of fragrant purple blooms like wisteria, violet and iris. Put it this way: if the song “Lavender Haze” was a scent, this would be it.

Aerin Rose de Grasse Rouge Eau de Parfum

When it comes to rose perfumes, no brand does it quite like Aerin. Rose de Grasse Rouge — the newest addition to the beauty brand’s rose premier collection — blends classic red roses with rose water and honeycomb, resulting in a romantic and timeless scent.

YSL MYSLF Eau de Parfum

This is not a drill: YSL’s new eau de parfum, MYSLF, is fronted by none other than Austin Butler. So if you ever wanted to know what the star smells like, imagine a combination of Calabrian Bergamot, sweet orange blossom and a touch of musky patchouli. A little fresh, a little earthy, and very, very sexy.

Cacharel Yes I Am Bloom Up Eau de Parfum

Available exclusively online at Shoppers Drug Mart, Cacharel’s latest addition to the Yes I Am collection smells as delightful as the lipstick-shaped vessel. One spritz delivers an explosion of sweet red berries and fresh peony with a lingering trail of sandalwood. It’s an instant fave — and affordable to boot.

Can’t decide between floral or fruity scents? You can have both with Paco Rabanne Lady Million Royal, which smells like a bed of white flowers surrounded by sweet pomegranate. Very dreamy.

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Summer Vibes Eau de Toilette

Dolce & Gabanna Light Blue has been a beloved scent since it first came on the scene in 2001, and its latest reinterpretation is shaping up to be just as appealing. With a mix of bergamot, peach and cedar, it has that same woody-fruity essence, but with a little more zest.

This article was originally published on March 28, 2023 and has been updated.

As Hailey Bieber’s face pops onto my screen at the beginning of our Zoom call, I find myself going through a mental checklist of the details that make up her signature beauty look. Bare eyes? Check. Glowing skin? Check. Brown bob slicked down into a middle part? Check. Almond-shaped nails and ultra-glossy lips? Check and check. She has nailed the “model off duty” look. The 26-year-old model-turned-brand founder (and former FASHION cover star) is nine months into the launch of her brand Rhode Skin, her first foray into skincare. With a waitlist of over one million across its products (of which there are only a handful), it’s safe to say that the brand has, by all accounts, been a smashing success. Today, Rhode begins shipping to Canada, its first expansion outside of the U.S. market.

RELATED: Hailey Bieber Says It’s Time to Make the Hair Change You’ve Been Considering

Proving that her commitment to minimalism is more than just an aesthetic choice, Bieber launched Rhode with only three products (five, if you count all three flavours of the Peptide Lip Treatment: Salted Caramel, Watermelon Slice and Unscented). “The beauty industry is very crowded,” says Bieber. “There are so many amazing brands [out there]. I wanted Rhode to be a brand that could put out that one really good moisturizer or that one really good lip treatment. We’re also conscious of not putting excess into the environment. These are things that are topics of conversation every single time we meet about a new product.”

Plus, through her years in the modelling industry, Bieber has learned the hard way that less is definitely more when it comes to skincare. “When your skin barrier is healthy and happy, your skin is healthy. But so many things can disturb your barrier, like travelling, the environment, and using harsh products. When I was a teenager, if I was having any sort of breakout, I thought throwing salicylic acid on it would fix it. You just want to get rid of it so you try to burn it off.” (Teen celebrities: they’re just like us.) “That’s why Rhode is so focused on hydration and a [healthy] barrier,” says Bieber.

Photography by Stevie Dance

Rhode Skin launched with a Peptide Glazing Fluid ($44), an instantly plumping and hydrating gel serum, Barrier Restore Cream ($44), a barrier-supporting cream moisturizer, and three Lip Peptide Treatments ($24 each). The entire lineup can also be purchased via The Rhode Kit ($142). “The idea behind the launch was, ‘What are the three things I couldn’t survive a flight without?” Bieber explains. “Or if I was stranded on a desert island and could only have three things with me, what would they be? That was the mentality for me.”

The clean, ultra-minimal look that Hailey Bieber has become known for is Rhode’s aesthetic as well, right down to the brand’s muted grey and white packaging. “My technical title at the brand is founder and creative director,” says Bieber. “Coming from the fashion industry, I’m obsessed with imagery, so things like [packaging and branding] took a lot of time because I’m so specific about the little details.”

So what’s Rhode’s secret to standing out in the ever-so-saturated beauty industry? “I feel like I’m in sync with my audience,” says Bieber. “Most of the products that are being developed or are in the pipeline for the next couple years are what people are asking for [right now]. So I’m like, ‘We must be in a good place.’ It makes me really happy because that’s such a big part of creating a brand for people who look to you for your style, or your skincare routine, or your aesthetic.”

So what’s next for the ultra-minimalist brand? Growth and expansion, of course — into new markets (Rhode launched in the United Kingdom this past spring) and new categories. The brand’s latest launch is Glazing Milk ($44), a silky ceramide-rich facial essence that boosts barrier function and leaves skin hydrated and glowy. But don’t expect a sudden explosion of product offerings from Rhode. “I think a 10-step routine is unnecessary,” says Bieber. “But that’s just me.”

Below, Hailey Bieber shares her tried-and-true beauty essentials.

We’ve been told more than once that it’s good practice to replace mascara every three to six months. Annoying as that warning may be, it also means mascara is one of those makeup items you can shop for guilt-free. When you’re on the hunt for your next tube, look out for Clinique’s brand new launch: the High Impact High-Fi™ Full Volume Mascara. Available in black and black-brown shades, this volume-boosting mascara is made with a coconut, argan and moringa oil-infused gel formula to soften and strengthen lashes. Look closely and you’ll see tiny fibers clinging to the wavy bristle brush, which help to lengthen lashes and increase volume. Plus, a nifty precision tip on the brush helps to define those tiny hairs in the corner of your eye for a fully fanned-out look. It’s safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens-wearers, too.

Dermalogica releases a sensitive skin-safe moisturizer

Sensitive skin friends, listen up: Dermalogica just released its latest Stabilizing Repair Cream, and it’s here to save your skin barrier. Whether your skin issues are the result of genetics, your lifestyle or even your environment, this lipid-rich moisturizer helps boost your skin’s natural recovery rate by encouraging the skin to produce its own ceramides (the fatty molecules that help form the moisture barrier), resulting in skin that’s less reactive in the long run. It’s filled with soothing plant extracts and ingredients like cica and probiotics to help calm the skin and lock in moisture. Fall skincare reshuffle, anyone?

Nudestix reimagines its bestselling blush stick

What if we told you that Nudestix’s bestselling Blush Sticks could actually be better? Introducing the Nudies Matte + Glow Core: the brand’s beloved matte cream blush stick, now infused with a hydrating centre. On the outside, you still get the same buildable colour formula, but on the inside, there’s a core loaded with ceramides and peptides, giving your skin a lit-from-within look that mimics a 10-step skincare routine. Currently, it’s available in six shades ranging from neutral rose to cool pink and warm golden bronze.

Anastasia Beverly Hills introduces a new lengthening mascara

Another excellent mascara launch coming at you. This time we’re talking about the Lash Sculpt Mascara by Anastasia Beverly Hills. Created to define, lift and lengthen lashes, this sculpting mascara was made for extension lovers who want to give their lashes a break. The formula includes biotin, collagen and peptides to naturally enhance length and fullness, while still maintaining volume that mimics falsies in the best way possible. It’s all the drama with none of the fuss.

Fenty’s Blurring Skin Tint is available in stick form

Fenty’s latest Eaze Drop Blur + Smooth Tint Stick is here to make your foundation application as seamless as possible. Like the brand’s popular Eaze Drop liquid formula, this complexion stick is available in 25 shades with a lovely skin-like finish. Twist the fully recyclable tool up and use your fingers to apply the formula, which starts off sheer but can be built up for more coverage. Beauty trends are like a boomerang—they always come back around. Even the ones you thought were totally done and dusted: pencil-thin brows, mullets, and most recently, the perm. Once a hallmark of the 1980s, perms (short for ‘permanent waves’) were a fixture in Hollywood. Think of Meg Ryan’s bouncy curls in When Harry Met Sally, Jennifer Beals’ shag in Flashdance and the sky-high spirals Dolly Parton sported at just about every point in her career. Iconic, yes, but does it translate 30 plus years later? Sort of. These days, the perm wears a totally new face.

RELATED: Air-Dry Your Hair Effortlessly With These Easy-to-Use Products

“There is no question that perms are having a major comeback,” says hairstylist and Mela & Kera founder Jason Lee, who has been wearing a perm since earlier this year. “For decades, people who had curly hair would straighten their hair to feel beautiful, but now wearing your natural curl pattern is widely embraced,” he says. “That movement flipped into a new trend and now those with straighter [texture] want some movement in their hair, driving the comeback of the perm.”

But in South Korea, the perm has never really fallen out of style. K-pop idols have been sporting perms and influencing fans for decades. And as Lee points out, stars like JungKook from BTS are only contributing to the continued popularity of the trend. Even The New York Times took notice, linking its rise to the explosive growth of K-pop culture in North America and the undeniable impact of TikTok. “Korean and Japanese salons have really evolved the perm since the ‘80s,” says Lee. A digital perm, or hot perm, does exist, and if you’re aiming for a more natural or relaxed appearance, many Korean and Japanese salons offer this service. “The difference is that they saturate the hair with a thicker perming solution and then roll the hair into larger rollers. These rollers are all attached by wires to a digital machine that heats them up, allowing for a more natural look.”

Lee’s own perm was inspired by Ethan Spiller’s (played by Will Sharpe) wavy locks in season 2 of White Lotus. And that laid-back, undone look (think Timothée Chalamet) is markedly more appealing than the over-processed, frizzy creations that put off an entire generation (i.e. millennials with perm moms) from experimenting with the hairstyle. “He had this cool shag that had natural movement. I really wanted more of a surfer-sporty vibe and the perm was the only way to achieve that,” he says. For his look, Lee opted for a ‘cold wave’ perm, which is the most common perming process in the Western world. Perm rods are wrapped around the hair, perm lotion (the ammonia-smelling stuff that breaks down the bonds in your hair) is applied without heat, then rinsed out. Finally, a neutralizer is applied to lock in the perm.

It’s no surprise that social media has played a massive role in making the perm popular among Gen Z folks. Think of the familiar ‘broccoli’ haircut, which “ultimately is a permed top with tapered sides and back, giving the silhouette of broccoli,” according to Lee. And if it’s popular with the younger generation, it’s a near guarantee that the trend will eventually trickle down. At one point, perms seemed to age folks (think of TikTok’s hair theory, or how vastly different the Golden Girls look compared to J-Lo, simply as a result of their hair style). Now, the look is perceived as young and fresh again. “My hair was laying really flat on my head, which was okay for certain looks but to be honest, it felt like it was aging me,” says Lee.

If you’re thinking of going ahead with a perm, there are a few things to consider. “Unfortunately, perms aren’t great for everyone. If you have processed hair from highlights, bleaching or relaxing the hair, it’s not advisable,” says Lee. “In fact, I had bleached tips on my hair and a lot of salons turned me down because they were worried about it breaking off,” he says. “Perms break down the disulfide bonds which weaken the hair, so you really want to make sure you have healthy hair and speak to a specialist before getting a perm.”

Invest in hair care products that are perm-safe (Lee recommends the Mela & Kera Touche Velours shampoo and conditioner, which hydrate curls without harsh ingredients) and remember: perms are short for ‘permanent.’ “Once the hair starts to grow, your regular hair texture will still continue to come in at the roots while the ends stay permed.” Expect to refresh your roots (just as you would with colour) every 10 to 12 weeks to maintain your perm’s appearance.

This is Texture Talk, our long-running column that deep dives into the dynamic world of curly hair, from crowns of curls that are free flowing to strands that are tucked away in a protective style.

The origin story of Carol’s Daughter is a common one within the beauty industry: The brand started in its founder’s kitchen. But what began as a few DIY body butters sold at Lisa Price’s church market (thanks to the encouragement of her mother, Carol) has become one of the hair-care industry’s biggest success stories. In fact, the brand went on to become one of the first Black-owned product lines to have a flagship store and was even featured in the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. This year, Carol’s Daughter, which recently landed in Canada, turns 30 and remains a staple for anyone with textured hair. But that was never the plan. “I just wanted to make a connection with people and help them understand how to take care of their hair,” says Price. “I never wanted people to feel like my hand was in their pocket.”

As a Black woman coming of age in the ’70s and ’80s, Price says she was lucky to have grown up learning about hair health and hearing the women in her family speak fondly about their own hair, giving her permission to do the same. “My mother, aunts and grandmother did not talk about hair in a negative way,” says Price. “I didn’t grow up thinking ‘The straighter my hair, the better I am.’ Thank God.” Price says her mother (the inspiration behind the brand’s name) “didn’t like anything that made you look like someone you weren’t.”

This strong sense of self allowed Price to stay focused through the early stages of launching Carol’s Daughter. The brand’s rise to success was somewhat of a slow burn; it launched in 1993 and steadily gained traction in the industry. But Price says it wasn’t until 2001 — eight years into the business — that she was financially stable enough to take out a loan. And even then, she was prevented from doing so at her neighbourhood bank — a decision she feels was racially motivated. “There was a question about whether or not the money I’d be bringing in would be legitimate,” she says. “I had to prove I wasn’t a criminal.” Today, Price says there’s still much work to be done, but she’s thrilled to see more representation and Black brand founders in the industry. “At least now, retailers are aware that there should be more diversity,” she says. “Before, it wasn’t even a conversation. You just figured stuff out on your own because you knew somebody was gonna say no to you.”

A post shared by Lisa Price (@iamlisaprice)

The turning point for Carol’s Daughter came in 2002, when Price appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, giving the brand a major boost (often referred to as “The Oprah Effect”). From there, the direct-to-consumer brand launched on HSN and then several years later in Target. In 2014, Carol’s Daughter was acquired by L’Oréal USA. Price stayed on as founder, overseeing product development, brand vision, education and more (a role she still holds today). While this milestone was a massive accomplishment for her and for the brand, she expected it would be received with slight pushback from consumers. “I anticipated concern,” she says. “I anticipated comments like ‘I hope the formulas don’t change.’” So she recorded a personal video announcement, explaining that the acquisition meant Carol’s Daughter would be in more stores and thus become even more accessible to customers. Unfortunately, the message went largely unheard. Instead, she was called a sellout; customers were angry that their beloved products were no longer going to be produced by a Black-owned brand. “I was surprised at how negative and visceral the reaction was,” says Price.

With time, she came to understand her customers’ frustrations. “I had to step back from the situation and look at it through the lens of the consumer,” she explains. “I realized it wasn’t about me. It was about our history. When we, as Black people, have trusted others with our things, they have stolen from us. I learned that my role is to mentor other entrepreneurs and cheer them on so this gets easier each time one of us does it.” Price’s ability to not only keep her cool in stressful situations but also lead the way as a pioneer in the industry has been instrumental in the decades-long success of Carol’s Daughter. However, her role as a leader didn’t come naturally to her. “I needed to sit at the head of the table, although it was uncomfortable and it wasn’t where an introvert wanted to sit,” she says. “But I had to learn how to lead — even if I didn’t know exactly where I was going.”

Carol’s Daughter has an extensive roster of A-list fans. Here, Price reflects on these pivotal meetings from years ago.

Jay-Z

“I met him in 2003; I always called him Mr. Carter, and he called me Mrs. Price. I’m not sure why. It’s just a thing we did. He was a fan of our now discontinued Ocean body-care line.”

Cassie

“She was part of a campaign we shot in 2011. What was revolutionary about Cassie’s ad was that she had recently shaved one side of her head. That was not a thing back then and certainly not in a hair campaign featuring a beautiful head of hair. I loved that about her.”

Halle Berry

“During the taping of The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2002, Oprah mentioned that she’d been gifted with Carol’s Daughter products by Halle Berry. I had no idea Halle knew about the brand, so I later sent her a gift basket as a thank you, and she sent me a thank-you note back. That made me melt.”

Oprah

“During that episode, Oprah said our foot cream was fantastic. At the time, we had a lotion and a foot butter. We didn’t know which one she meant so we put both on our website’s home page. After the episode, we sold a ton of foot products.”

Mary J. Blige

“Mary was a fan of our Almond Cookie Shea Soufflé. We worked together for a few years, creating and selling her fragrances. She also became an investor in 2006.”

Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith

“Jada was into self-care before that term was a thing. She and Will eventually became investors, but they had been using Carol’s Daughter products long before that. Years before we met, Will’s assistant actually called me once to ask about new launches and I heard Will’s voice in the background. I almost passed out.”

Case in point: this year’s hottest nail colours, which have been taking over every corner of the internet, from our TikTok For You pages to the IG feeds of our favourite celebrities.

From milkshake-inspired hues to subtle shimmering shades, it’s been the summer of laid-back nail art. Forget the swirls, graphic lines and French tips of years past. This summer we’re going full tilt on elegant monochromatic manicures that are anything but basic.

Blueberry milk nails

Glazed donut nails who? This year’s food-inspired mani trend trades in glistening chrome powder for something slightly more subdued: fruit milk nails. Think creamy, glossy polishes in powdery pastel hues. The crown jewel of the season? “I’ve been working since I was eight years old. I’ve just pushed through life,” says Sarah Jessica Parker over the phone. “I’ve had wonderful experiences and I’ve had hard experiences. And I didn’t want to focus on the things that were painful. I gave them the time they needed, but for me, being sad — or disappointed or frustrated or angry or bitter — just didn’t seem to move me forward.”

The And Just Like That… actor has partnered with RoC Skincare for the second year in a row on the #LookForwardProject in collaboration with non-profit organization SeekHer, which aims to bridge the gender gap of mental health in the U.S. through advocacy and research. The project’s mission is to support a more optimistic future via access to mental health advocacy and resources for teens and their parents. She’s also curated a limited edition skincare kit with the science-backed brand, with profits going to SeekHer.

The brand has shared some data about the role of optimism, especially as it impacts teens and their caregivers, finding that 69 per cent of moms are concerned their negativity about the future could impact their child’s outlook and 97 per cent of moms believe there should be more resources and support to ensure our children learn how to incorporate optimism into their lives. During our call, I realize that natural optimist Parker is the perfect person for the role.

“I think I’ve developed, through experience, a desire to carry on and move forward,” she says. “I try not to get too trapped in things that are painful. It’s not productive.” As for how her outlook impacts her parenting (Parker has three kids; son James, 20, and twin daughters Tabitha and Marion, 13), she says, “I want them to feel good about the things that are interesting to them. And I want them to feel excited about the future, even though the world is incredibly complicated and they will eventually be exposed to social media and all the landmines that exist there. I want them to find comfort in individuality.”

Parker says she has chosen to work with RoC Skincare again because the brand’s messaging “is about taking the focus off looks, and the idea of ‘aging.’ The focus is living and the optimism that can come with experience, time and perspective. What RoC really wants is for women to feel good when they leave their homes and feel like they’re like themselves, not like their neighbour, not like the other mothers at school drop-off, not like the other teachers. Like themselves.” As for her own perspective on aging, she says, “I really don’t think about it. And I don’t think that makes me evolved. I just don’t think it’s registered in a way that’s been dominant. I haven’t worked hard to not think about it. I just don’t think about it.”

I ask Parker if she partakes in any practices that help fuel her optimism, such as meditation or journaling. “Nope, nope, nope. None of that,” she laughs. “And I don’t do self-care days. I just pick myself up and get back to work. That’s the way I’ve always lived my life.”

Hero Cosmetics is finally here

Pimple-poppers, we have some excellent news for you: Hero Cosmetics’ lineup of famous hydrocolloid stickers has finally made their way to Canada. The line began after co-founder & CEO Ju Rhyu launched the original K-beauty inspired Mighty Patch in 2017 on Amazon. Designed to be worn during the day or overnight, the patches suck up all the gunk living in your zit, revealing a significantly calmer, flatter blemish. The product was an instant hit, and Hero Cosmetics has expanded to include over 30 products to target breakouts, rosacea, dark spots and even fine lines.

Currently, Canadians can purchase four products from the lineup, including the Mighty Patch Original patches, meant to be worn overnight; Mighty Patch Invisible+ patches, which work great under makeup; the ultra-flexible Mighty Patch Nose patches that target oiliness and minimize the look of pores; and Mighty Patch Surface patches, XL-sized zit stickers for the forehead, cheeks and chin.

Benefit just dropped a new mascara

From BADGal to Roller Lash to They’re Real!, Benefit has been a huge player in the mascara space for years. But the brand’s latest launch, the Fan Fest Fanning & Volumizing Mascara, might be the one that takes the cake. If the name didn’t give it away, the volume-boosting formula curls and separates lashes for a long and wispy appearance, while the custom brush deposits just the right amount of product to eliminate unsightly clumps. Plus, there’s plenty of lash-enhancing ingredients like cranberry extract and rice wax, to help keep lashes soft and supple. It’s water-resistant, humidity- and sweat-proof, too, making it an excellent choice if you’re seeking a new summer mascara.
