You know that famous line from Sex and the City when Carrie says “I like my money right where I can see it — hanging in my closet”? We like to inject that OG fashionista energy with a healthy helping of 2023 inflation realism, which is why we’re always on the lookout for a great sale. If you also have a penchant for shopping and live for the thrill of a deep discount, you’re in luck because Amazon Prime Day Canada 2023 round two is right around the corner.

That’s right, the sale returns as Prime Big Deal Days on October 10 to 11, so get your wish list (and your credit card) ready.

Whether you’re looking to update your wardrobe or restock your cosmetics stash with your favourite beauty products, Amazon Prime Day 2023 has deals that’ll make you click “add to cart” so fast, it would knock Carrie’s Manolos off.

What is Prime Big Deal Days, exactly?

Amazon Prime Days are limited-time shopping events that offer Prime members major deals across apparel, home, technology, beauty, personal care, and more for two days only.

When are Amazon Prime Big Deal Days 2023?

Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days event is happening from Tuesday, October 10 to Wednesday, October 11.

Who can take advantage of Amazon Prime Day deals?

To take advantage of the giant savings that this sale is known to offer, you’ll need to be a Prime member. After a complimentary 30-day free trial (which you should totally take advantage of during this year’s Prime Day sale if you can), a Canadian Prime membership costs $9.99 plus tax per month.

And there are other reasons to stick around after Prime Days are done — an Amazon Prime membership comes with a bunch of perks, like fast, free delivery on tons of products, exclusive deals year-round, access to Prime video and more.

What kind of deals can we expect during Prime Big Deal Days 2023?

Like most things Prime Day-related, the deals stay pretty top-secret until closer to the two-day event. That said, we’re still thinking about some of the sweet deals we shopped during the Amazon Prime Day in July, including beloved beauty products like this CeraVe cleanser that was seriously marked down. If your last time wearing Mary Jane shoes coincided with kindergarten graduation, let us get you up to speed on the season’s seen-everywhere shoe.

RELATED: Prepare to See Rosettes Everywhere

From New York all the way to Paris, you couldn’t blink without missing a Mary Jane moment. There was Coach’s heart-stamped heels, Emilia Wickstead’s metallic-meets-minimalist options, and Prada’s Western-influenced iterations coming in a kaleidoscope of zingy colour that popped with every look. Even Bally got the boys into a black patent version paired with languid suiting, making us question why we hadn’t thought of it as the most obvious choice for evening wear in the first place.

Soon, the street style elite followed suit, putting their own spin on the buzz-worthy style: pairing them with pristine white dress socks, delicately scrunched at the ankle; off-setting zany tights or trousers with a neutral pair; and leaning into its preppy reputation with long pleated skirts.

If you’re wondering whether the Mary Jane resurgence has reached the mainstream, here’s the good news: this season’s offering pretty much spans the entire style spectrum. From teetering patent platforms to velvety ballet flats and T-strapped oxfords with chunky, punk-happy soles, there’s truly a pair for everyone. Read on for 19 of our favourite pairs of Mary Jane shoes.

September is a magical time, isn’t it? There’s that “back to school” feeling you get no matter what your age (or actual academic reality), a sense of renewal, a fresh start! You know what isn’t always fresh? The weather. I don’t know who has us all convinced that we can become fall girlies immediately after Labour Day weekend, but I’m here to remind you that summer temps continue well through the month of September in most Canadian cities. Who among us hasn’t worn a perfect fall dress to a Thanksgiving weekend wedding and almost passed out from heat exhaustion?

In fact, cities like Toronto bracing for a post-Labour Day heat wave, so take this as your sign to keep your tall boots and chunky knits in storage until October 1 when PSL season really starts.

RELATED: The Unnecessary Belt Is Back

Until then, you know what slaps in the late summer/early fall? Linen. It’s breezy, breathable, looks elevated and pairs beautifully with lightweight knits (if you must). And yes, ICYWW, it really is as sweat-proof as your mom told you it is — I would know. I, self-proclaimed Sweaty Gal, did the leg work and wore some of the most popular Reformation linen pieces on steaming hot days so that you wouldn’t have to.

Without further ado, a round-up of the top transitional linen pieces that’ll take you from the summer well into fall.

The white mini-dress

Sweat score: 1/10. The dress is lined, which is fab for ensuring it isn’t see-through, but does add an extra layer.

Most likely to: Get a second date. (And look extremely adorable with a retro headband and boxy cardigan.)

Pros: Sometimes Ref minis can run a tad *too* mini on taller gals. Not this cutie that hits at just the right spot mid-thigh.

Cons: That I can’t wear it daily?

How to make it fall-ready: Take the “wrong shoe theory” for a spin and add a pair of loafers and white socks.

Shop Now

The coastal grandma drawstring pants

Sweat score: 1/10. They sit deceptively high on the waist, so there’s a slight chance of perspiring around the mid-section.

Most likely to: Dig for clams on the beach in Maine. (Or watch any film starring Diane Keaton.)

Pros: I was worried these pants would be so flimsy, they’d feel like a beach coverup but the weight of the linen is surprisingly substantial, yet not heavy.

Cons: The online reviews are right — these loose linen trousers do run quite long.

How to make it fall-ready: A pair of mesh flats and an oversized blazer take these babies from vacation patio to city sidewalk.

Shop Now

The Sofia Loren dress

Sweat score: 3/10. The combination of a fitted bodice and cinched waist means the girls can get a bit, um, more glowy when temperatures soar.

Most likely to: Eat pasta in Capri with a stunning Aperol Spritz in hand.

Pros: She hugs your curves in all the right places.

Cons: Her straps run a wee bit long.

How to make it fall-ready: The trick to transitioning a summery silhouette to early fall lies in the shoes and the handbag. In this case, swap your basket tote for a leather shoulder bag and opt for a pair of closed-toe Mary Janes in lieu of sandals.

Shop Now

The workhorse white shirt

Sweat score: 0/10. No sweat, no notes!

Most likely to: Work with just about everything, from over a bikini in the summer to tucked into your favourite pair of vintage jeans come fall.

Pros: It’s roomy enough to feel modern but still cut to skim the body so it isn’t billowy or overwhelming.

Cons: That I don’t own it in every colour.

How to make it fall-ready: Once Labour Day is in your rearview, make a breezy linen button-down feel fall-ish by wearing it as you would any other cotton dress shirt — think: tucked into a silk slip skirt or under a leather blazer. The contrast of textures feels instantly elevated.

On the heels of the popularity of the quiet luxury aesthetic, loafers are having quite the renaissance.

RELATED: The Mesh Flat Is the New Face of Impractical Footwear

Although the footwear staple has been around for decades, loafers have been gaining buzz both on and off the runway in recent seasons. Gucci’s Spring 2024 menswear collection included several looks featuring the brand’s classic Horsebit loafer. Memorably, the iconic shoe was also recently honoured with a special exhibition to celebrate its 70th anniversary during Milan’s 2024 menswear fashion week. A few weeks later at Dior’s Spring 2024 menswear show in Paris, Winnie Harlow hopped on the trend by completing a sky blue Dior mini dress and layered sweater ensemble with a pair of navy blue leather Horsebit loafers for a cool preppy look.

Of course, TikTok has also influenced the shoe’s recent spike in popularity, too. A quick search for “loafers” on the platform will yield countless videos, many of which have well over ten thousand likes, as influencers and everyday fashion lovers showcase how they style their beloved pairs (yes, some TikTokers seem to have quite the collection).

And as people’s embrace of flat shoes in general grows, along with a sustained penchant for gender-neutral styles, you can expect the loafer’s moment to continue this fall.

The chic simplicity of the original 1936 Penny Loafer design by American brand G.H. Bass was inspired by Norwegian slipper-esque shoes and first known as Weejuns. And lucky for us, the shoe works for almost all seasons. This comes in especially handy when trying to serve your best looks despite fall’s sometimes unpredictable forecasts. After all, what’s worse than wearing open-toe shoes when the temperature suddenly drops down to almost zero? (Just be sure to stow your loafers away before the first snowfall.)

Photography courtesy of launchmetrics.com/spotlight

Not only are loafers a cool-weather wardrobe staple, but infinitely versatile in their styling possibilities — dress them up or down for practically any occasion. From adding a touch of preppy polish to a tailored blazer to toughening up a floral dress, the outfit options are unparalleled. Just look south of the ankles of many Copenhagen fashion week-goers earlier this month for loafer inspo.

Celebs have sworn by the shoe for ages as well. Long-time style icons such as Princess Diana and Grace Kelly were known to sport the style with their most sophisticated outfits and, today, modern supermodels like Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid are often seen seen elevating low-key street style looks with a pair of loafers.

And just like most traditional fashion favourites, the loafer is constantly being reinvented both in its design and how modern fashion fans are choosing to style them. Between the popular lug-sole style reminiscent of Y2K platforms, to the ever-so-comfortable “driving shoe” design, and of course, the sophisticated Prada loafer that’s extremely popular today, the classic shoe has been reinvented a million times over. So, whether you’d rather sport a classic Penny loafer with a pair of straight-leg trousers or pair a more adventurous chunky sole with a mini-skirt, it’s clear that the loafer has bona fide all-star status when it comes to footwear.

Check out our round-up of the coolest ways to style loafers this fall, plus the pairs to shop to recreate the looks.

Preppy, with a twist

PHOTOGRAPHY BY LAUNCHMETRICS.COM/SPOTLIGHT

Despite the popular belief that one must only wear dark socks with black shoes, you can never go wrong with the classic black loafer and white crew sock combo. This preppy look has been in style for the past few years and the stark contrast between the black and white is a crisp way to elevate an outfit. Consider wearing the look with a skirt or pair of oversized shorts so this iconic accessory combo can truly shine.

While you pair white crew socks with just about any loafer, opting for a chunkier version with a bit of a platform can take it to the next level. The dimension of a bulkier loafer, like this one from Call It Spring, adds a little edge and perfectly juxtaposes the preppy vibes of the white sock and black loafer combination.

A pop of colour

PHOTOGRAPHY BY GETTY IMAGES

Deviating from the traditional all-black look, a colourful pair of loafers will add interest to an ensemble. If your outfit already has flashes of colour, the shoes will make the colour pop, and if you’re choosing to opt for a monochromatic outfit, the colourful loafers will liven up the look.

After a Barbie-filled summer, you just can’t go wrong with this pair by Free People. The blush shade is soft enough that it won’t overpower an outfit, but add a cheeky splash that Barbie herself would approve of.

Shop Now

A little something extra

PHOTOGRAPHY BY GETTY IMAGES

You can’t go wrong with loafers that have a little something extra to them. Think: tassels, colour-blocking or grommets. A touch of playfulness on a classic shoe like the Penny loafer feels unexpected and modern.

These black and white loafers scream sophistication. Reminiscent of a classic tuxedo, the colour-blocked leather and exaggerated tassels feel fresh.

Shop Now

The heeled loafer look

PHOTOGRAPHY BY GETTY IMAGES

A heeled loafer brings the footwear staple to new heights — literally — with a stacked heel adding an extra layer of polish to nearly any outfit. Bonus points for pairing the prep school favourite with a cool, contemporary ‘fit, like head-to-toe red leather.

This retro-inspired Prada pair is reminiscent of footwear from the 1950s, but its elegance proves the style has stood the test of time. Between its chunky manageable heel, almond toe and shiny patent leather, this pair is sure to be a prized possession in any loafer fan’s collection.

Shop Now

Fall is calling

PHOTOGRAPHY BY GETTY IMAGES

If you’re on the hunt looking for something other than traditional black loafers to wear this season, a chocolate-toned pair is calling your name. Take the fall vibes to the next level by matching your autumn-hued shoes to other fall staples like an oversized vintage-inspired leather jacket.

The caramel shade of brown on these Aldo slip-ons will match all your staple fall knits. The gold buckle detail and subtle fringe adds just enough interest to the shoe’s traditional shape.

Amid all the glamorous fashion to come from the Barbie movie, one understated sartorial shoutout speaks serious volumes: Birkenstocks. They enter the story at a crucial moment when Barbie must make a life-altering decision. Upon learning of the real world, she’s faced with a Matrix red-pill-blue-pill-inspired choice. She can live on in plastic-covered ignorance by choosing a pink heel, or abandon Barbie Land and experience the cold hard facts of reality by selecting the brown Birk. Much to her chagrin, she has to pick the Birkenstock.

RELATED: What To Wear to the Barbie Movie

This high-stakes scene is so much more than an arbitrary fashion debacle. It’s the culmination of the humble Birkenstock’s rocky history and winding reputation. You see, Barbie is known for being classically elegant, objectively beautiful and, despite Mattel controversies, undeniably popular. Birkenstocks? Not so much.

Weird barbie
Courtesy Warner Bros. Pictures

Since 1973, Birkenstock Arizona Sandals have been worn by teens, models and dads alike. But with thick double straps, cumbersome buckles and orthopedic cork footbeds, their signature structure has been polarizing to say the least. Pair them with socks or bare feet. Wear them with a dress or a pair of sweatpants. The Birkenstock’s clunky, functional design never seems to go out of style — or be entirely in style, either.

Adopted by hippie culture and then hipster culture, Birkenstocks spent decades as part of the niche “granola” aesthetic. This stereotype describes a wearer who is environmentally-minded, not on the frontier of fashion and generally kinda…frumpy. And yet, this same unrelenting design is part of Birkenstock’s cult classic appeal — just look at the array of high-fashion collabs it has under its belt (or buckle). In 2022, the brand even launched a campaign called “Ugly for a Reason,” shedding light on the importance of unglamorous foot health. Admirably, Birkenstocks are unapologetic about their appearance.

In recent years, a spin on the classic sandal design — the Birkenstock Boston Clog, seen by some as cute, seen by others as a “potato shoe” — was highly coveted, thanks to pandemic-induced prioritization of comfort. Cut to today: Barbiearguably the most fashionable film of the year — is wholly embracing Birkenstocks’ image.

The film frames the sandal as an emblem of unpleasant, yet necessary, self-actualization. The footwear equivalent of the fruit of knowledge, if you will. In Barbie, Birkenstocks are literally the key to the universe. And that message has been received loud and clear: According to the global shopping platform Lyst, Birkenstock Arizonas have seen a boom in searches since the film’s release on July 21. Barbie’s power!

At the end of the movie, Barbie reconciles with Birks. Now living as a human, her final outfit demonstrates this point: She has her blonde hair pulled back and is wearing a neutral blazer, jeans, and a pair of pink Birkenstocks — reportedly the Birkenstock Arizona Big Buckle Nubuck Leather Sandals in rose, to be exact. Dressed to see her gynecologist, this ensemble makes a statement: The iconic doll doesn’t have to compromise her “girly” side to thrive in the real world. At last, Barbie and Birkenstock — and all that they represent — are existing in harmony.

It’s no wonder slide sandals are seeing newfound popularity in pink shades. From bedazzled styles to blush flatforms, below are the best Barbiecore takes on the Birkenstock concept.

Birkenstock Arizona Big Buckle Birkenstock Sandals

This pair — believed to be the same style worn by Margot Robbie in the film — put a Barbiecore-spin on the classic two-strap Birkenstock. Featuring large statement buckles and genuine leather straps, they offer a distressed and put-together look. The lightweight feel is great for walks in the park, running away from Mattel agents, and even, you know, going to certain specialist appointments.

Fashion has been feeling particularly escapist lately. The notion of putting something on and being transported to a stress-free locale is admittedly attractive. And this summer, nothing captures that ethos more than the “tomato girl” aesthetic.

RELATED: 13 Fragrances and Candles That Smell Like a European Vacation

What do fruits have to do with it? Is it just code for being sunburnt? These are reasonable questions. But #tomatogirl — like many of the reigning trends du jour — evokes a specific type of aspirational dressing.

Inspired by the juicy produce on the coast of Italy, the style encapsulates the laid-back energy that comes from summering in Europe. With over six million views on TikTok, the tomato girl trend is full of linen separates, vintage gold jewellery, and cobblestone-friendly sandals. Its palette contains delicate embroideries inspired by Italian tableware, soft warm tones, gingham patterns and food-related motifs. It’s the silk scarf you’d tied in your hair to stroll around the piazza enjoying a generous scoop of pistachio gelato. It’s the white-on-white set you’d wear to eat a steaming plate of spaghetti pomodoro without ever worrying about getting a stain. It’s the personification of taking the time to set the dinner table or linger in a jewellery shop.

At its core, tomato girl is about dressing not for the life you have, but the life you want. This idea has been at the forefront of pop culture for some time. Last year, millions flocked to the coastal grandmother aesthetic to channel the essence of a retired Diane Keaton character who resides on the beach and is perennially swathed in cream cardigans. In the spring, quiet luxury dominated pop culture because of its alluring ability to make everyone feel like an anonymous member of the one percent. Most recently, Sofia Richie’s minimalist, two-toned wardrobe has become the most emulated style of the season. This is not only because it’s chic, but because its clean lines, sharp tailoring and versatile uniformity communicate a certain kind of laid-back existence that money can buy.

Needless to say, times are tough. Tomato girl summer, in all its vivacious airiness, is the sunny weather sartorial equivalent of experiencing a life without worry. Some have hailed it as a revolution; a way to embrace slow living and prioritize peace of mind in a decidedly uncertain era. After all, in this realm, your biggest obstacle is carrying your bounty from the farmer’s market. But really, this ethos is nothing new. Tomato girl — like quiet luxury and coastal grandmother — encourages just the right amount of self-indulgent delusion. Sure, a Mediterranean getaway may not be in the cards right now. But who says you can’t dress like it is?

Below, FASHION has curated staple pieces for living la dolce vita, no plane tickets required.

Banana Republic Bria Linen Midi Skirt

The lightweight midi skirt is a staple to any tomato girl’s wardrobe. This breathable option from Banana Republic is both airy and romantic, with simple pull-on styling and a subtly flared A-length silhouette. Bonus: It has pockets.

Riiqiichy Head Scarf for Women

Every Italian getaway needs a silky soft scarf. This embroidered gem can be fastened as a hair accessory, a tube top or a neck-tie accessory. Not to mention, the elaborately detailed pattern looks like it was plucked right from a set of heirloom dishes.

Meet the perfect tomato girl dress. This flowy frock is both effortless and artistic, thanks to its breezy shape and ruffled embellishments. The smocked-waisted and exaggerated sleeves create a romantic appeal, while the delicate wild floral pattern is ideal for the coast of the Mediterranean sea.

Dollger Oversized Square Sunglasses for Women

These retro frames — which are large enough to cover your eyebrows — add to the mystique of an Italian gallivant. For the full Dolce Vita effect, throw them on with a satin scarf secured to your head just so. Tanya Mcquoid from The White Lotus would surely approve.

Shop Now

Mejuri Victory Winged Coin Pendant Necklace

This vintage-inspired pendant necklace looks like a dainty treasure you’d find in a tucked-away Italian jewellery shop. Handcrafted in 18k gold vermeil, it’s made to last long beyond your fictional getaway.

Sleeper Check-Print Lounge Set

Nothing says peace of mind like a breezy matching set. With a white and red check print design, this shirt-and-shorts combo by Sleeper is reminiscent of an outdoor dining tablecloth. While breezy and comfortable, the ruffled hems add a sophisticated flare that presents the perfect opportunity for accessorizing.

Teva Women’s Hurricane Drift Sandal

Sure, tomato girl is a fantasy. But that doesn’t mean it can’t also involve practical footwear. Any hours-long cobblestone walk will teach you to prioritize comfortable shoes, and these lightweight, white sandals for Teva are the perfect colour palette and design.

Etsy Dainty Tomato Huggie Earrings

Tomato. Earrings. Need we say more? These handmade accessories are small enough to feel subtle with a vibrant red hue that accentuates warm-toned outfits in all the right ways. Plus, the gold hoop detailing gives them an added vintage charm.

Wimbledon may be over, but the outfit inspiration will live on for weeks to come. As the tennis event of the year, the prestigious British sporting extravaganza reliably draws big stars, and by extension, big fashion moments. And this year did not disappoint. A-list guests arrived in a series of polished, and sometimes subversive, takes on traditional preppy style. Some trends to come out of the affair? Monochromatic colour palettes, reimagined suits and, unsurprisingly, a sea of quiet luxury.

RELATED: How to Achieve the Quiet Luxury Look On a Budget

Below, we present the best outfits of the season, plus how to achieve them yourself.

Ariana Grande

Photography by Getty Images

Instead of serving sporty vibes, the singer went viral over the weekend for her refined minimalist ensemble. While sitting in the crowd, she embodied the overcast weather of the London locale in a tonal grey cashmere sweater and matching flared skirt from Ralph Lauren. She finished the look with a Wimbledon baseball cap and a pair of avant-garde Loewe heels for an elevated take on tennis match fashion.

Get the look:

Take a page from Grande’s book and opt for an all-grey A-line silhouette for your next tennis match. May we suggest this pullover design by Mango? It has a ribbed fabric with a subtle flare skirt that hits the ankle just so — making it the optimal cozy-meets-chic option for any court-side viewer.

Buy it here: Mango Rib-Knit Boatneck A-Line Dress, was $89.99, now $44.96

These days, slightly weird footwear is always in season, and these toy pumps by Loewe fit the bill like none other. With a lustrous finish, a square-toe design and a sculptural heel, they are key to modernizing an otherwise old-school preppy ensemble.

Buy it here: Loewe Toy Leather Pumps, $1,560

We love a high-low queen! While the singer went luxury with her footwear, she chose beloved (and accessibly priced) Canadian jeweller Mejuri for her earrings, wearing a pair of gold vermeil and freshwater pearl hoops.

Buy it here: Bold Pearl Trio Hoop Earrings, $128

A must when watching any outdoor match, the humble tennis cap communicates that while you may be fashionable, you also know sports. This unisex design comes in 14 colours, but we suggest opting for white to emulate Grande’s crisp styling.

Buy it here: ’47 Unisex-Adult Baseball Cap, $39.99

Kate Middleton

Photography by Getty Images

No one does Wimbledon dressing quite like Kate Middleton. With her signature polished tailoring and streamlined silhouettes, the Princess of Wales embodies the formal daywear dress code of the world famous event. This season, she stood out in an assortment of green ensembles, including the Roland Mouret emerald dress with playful pleating she wore on July 16. Always thoughtfully accessorized, she completed the look with square shades and a pair of Gianvito Rossi suede heels. Sure, it may seem like a daring footwear choice for an outing involving grass, but if anyone can make it work, it’s a seasoned on-the-court attendee like Middleton.

Get the look:

Wimbledon ASOS dress

There is so much possibility in a midi dress. The devil is in the details with this fresh green design, which features flutter sleeves, front-and-centre ruching and a subtle back slit. It may not be an exact replica of Middleton’s get-up, but it achieves the same thing: innovating a tried and true silhouette. Not to mention the fun colour.

Buy it here: ASOS Linen-Look Flutter Sleeve Midi Dress, $88

suede nude heels

These pointed-toe stilettos come in a leather lining and a soft-pink suede outsole. With a 3.25-inch heel, they’ll take you from work to a patio to — if you’re wild like Kate — a tennis court. And they’re on sale.

Buy it here: Jimmy Choo Pink Romy 85 Pumps $880, now $528

Emma Corrin

The high socks. The brown leather loafers. The billowing, boxy silhouette. At Wimbledon, Emma Corrin’s outfit took the traditional aspects of preppy attire and reinvented them. The actor, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, pulled up to a tennis match on July 6 in a pale yellow oversized short suit by Ralph Lauren with a Miu Miu handbag and pair of sunnies. Debuting a bleached buzzcut and playing with oversized proportions, their androgynous take on the classically masculine style was the perfect play on Wimbledon tradition.

Get the look:

Aritzia short suit

Take it from Corrin, everyone needs a summer suit. This set by Aritzia melds the oversized comfort of the actor’s Wimbledon ’fit with polished tailoring for everyday wear. The single-breasted blazer features a notched lapel, pockets and structured shoulder pads, while the high-waisted shorts offer an elastic waistband and a gloriously wide-leg fit.

Buy it here: Wilfred Milestone Blazer, $228; Wilfred Alanya Short, $98

We know, we know. Socks? Trust, when you’re looking to perfect the art of the androgynous suited sets, they make the outfit. These high-rise dress socks by La Dearchuu are made with premium cotton and provide breathability for hot summer days. Plus, they come with six pairs!

Buy it here: La Dearchuu Men’s Dress Socks Rib Cotton Solid Crew Socks, $23

Jourdan Dunn

Photography by Getty Images

Looking chic from head to toe, British model Jourdan Dunn put a summery spin on the minimalism of the moment in a yellow-on-yellow ensemble. Sporting a Ralph Lauren cable knit crewneck, a lightweight satin skirt and pair of white open-toe pumps, her street style-worthy look was the perfect balance between being weather-minded, tennis-appropriate and just plain cool.

Get the look:

With the iconic Ralph Lauren design, this crewneck has added shoulder button-up detailing that makes it feel fresh. With classic ribbed cuffs and a relaxed fit that subtly hits the hips, it is the only sweater you’ll actually want to wear in the midst of high summer temps.

Buy it here: Lauren by Ralph Lauren Aran-Knit Button-Shoulder Cotton Sweater, was $191, now $132

yellow skirt

This maxi skirt is not only alluring because it reminds us of lemonade, but its flowy terry fabric is extremely versatile. Made with a subtle waist-accentuating fit, it takes you from the beach to a seat on A-list-filled bleachers.

Buy it here: Musier Paris Levant Skirt, $168.73

The slip-on kitten heel is a summertime saving grace. This white square-toe pair by Tony Bianco is great for day or night, thanks to its elevated buckle detailing and timeless design. Wear it with a breezy suit or style it with a vibrant monochrome skirt set, à la Jourdan Dunn.

Buy it here: Tony Bianco Asar Sandal, $237.76

Jonathan Bailey

Who doesn’t appreciate a commitment to linen? At the men’s singles final match, the Bridgerton actor sported a breathable three-piece Purple Label design by Ralph Lauren (notice a theme?). In a sea of other neutral menswear suits (as seen on Andrew Garfield and Nick Jonas), Bailey stood out thanks to his jacket’s interesting tie-up detail, his perfectly anonymous sunglasses and his sheer giddiness sitting alongside Wicked co-star Ariana Grande (see below).

Photography by Getty Images

Get the look:

Eyewear protection is key for outdoor sports spectatorship. Sticking to Bailey’s Ralph Lauren theme, this pair comes in a gradient gold-to-brown lens that’s ideal for a summer day. Plus, they’re prescription-friendly!

Buy it here: Ralph by Ralph Lauren Polarized Aviator Sunglasses, $106.17

These tailored linen pants are the embodiment of quiet luxury. With a concealed front fastening, refined straight-leg cut and mid-rise fit, they’re both breezy and professional. In the heat of the summer, they’re sure not to overheat you — and that’s a selling point in and of itself.

If you’re on the bustier side, you generally have two options while shopping for swimwear: forgo the support and feel self-conscious over spillage, or be relegated to a, shall we say, un-chic corner of the market. It was an experience that Form and Fold designers Carly Warson and Stephanie Korn knew all too well. Their Melbourne-based brand is specifically crafted for cup sizes D to G to lift, shape and support all in totally modern-feeling suits. Score!

Fisch

Eco-minded babes, this one’s for you. As one of the first swimwear brands to use Econyl — a 100 per cent regenerated fibre made from discarded fishing nets and other nylon material — Fisch’s statement essentials are as sustainable as they are beautiful. And if you get an immediate vacay vibe from the line, that’s intentional: creative director Agnes Fischer’s childhood spent on St. Barth’s influences everything from the bold prints to its beach-ready shapes.

Buy it here: Fisch Regatta Painted Leo One-Piece, $427

Matteau

Matteau’s understated designs are for the Net-a-Porter-shopping, Hamptons-vacationing fashion girl—and it’s hard to not want a piece of it. The brand’s trend-transcending pieces with a classic-meets-cool aesthetic and restrained palette are exactly why it’s garnered a following from editors, celebs and Instagram types alike. Wear yours with the brand’s extensive line of perfectly made pareos and poplin plunge dresses.

If April showers bring May flowers, then June brings balmy days, and July brings a total heatwave—and even hotter manicures.

As temperatures rise, we’ve got a high dose of tropical tips, mermaidcore-inspired nails, and sunset-shaded polish on the forecast this season. With Instagram as our guide, we’ve sourced the brightest and boldest manicures sure to inspire your next set of summer nails — no matter the occasion. Pool parties? Cocktails on the patio? A summer in Europe? You name it, these looks have got you and your nails covered. The only question is: which set will you choose?

RELATED: Vanilla Chrome Nails Are the Sweetest Spring Manicure Trend

Ahead, scroll through five of our favourite summer nails to recreate this season.

Tropical floral tips

Give your springtime floral nails a seasonal makeover with this vacay-ready manicure. Summery shades of lime green, fiery tangerine, hot pink and Caribbean blue serve as the perfect base for colourfully contrasting floral details that pop. To add a bit of depth and dimension, try switching up the size and placement of your flower designs on each nail for a more abstract and unique-to-you look.

To nail this look, shop OPI’s “Me, Myself, and OPI,” collection. Shade’s like orange “Silicon Valley Girl,” and blue “NFTease Me,” will give you that summery burst of colour. Plus, its fast-drying formula makes last-minute mani’s a breeze.

Buy it here: OPI Lacquer Silicon Valley, $13

Photography Courtesy of Makartt

If you’re not quite ready to tackle drawing your own floral nail designs, then you need this set in your life! Makartt’s nail art foil sticker is equipped with all the floral add-ons you could ever need, and more. For best results, cure the foil transfer beneath a UV lamp (which you can also pick up from Makartt!).

Under the sea-inspired shell nails

It’s mermaidcore season, folks! That means it’s time to unleash your inner mermaid with these oyster shell-inspired nails. Elevate a standard blue manicure by introducing a layer of opalescent polish on top of a translucent jelly shade of aqua to create this velvety, aquatic-looking finish. We’re sure this look would get The Little Mermaid star Halle Bailey’s approval.

Photography courtesy of L.A Colours

Want to get the jelly look without the gel? First, grab a blue polish like this one by L.A Colours. Then, mix a little polish together with a clear base coat to create that sheer finish. No gel needed!

Buy it here: L.A. Colours Craze Sea Siren Polish, $9

Photography Courtesy of Revlon

To add that oceanic shimmer, top off your “jelly” shade with this pearlescent polish. This sheer shade makes the perfect final coat overtop any colour of your choice. What’s more, it’s chip free — so you can rest assured knowing your manicure will withstand any summer activity.

Buy it here: Revlon Pure Pearl Polish, $7

Elevate your aura

A post shared by Dayanna I. Sapiens (@disseynails)

If you’ve been looking for a sign to hop on the aura nail trend, here it is! This rainbow-hued set is sure to radiate good vibes and positive energy, so you can feel confident that this summer will be a good one. Using a blush pink polish as the base, layer droplets of your favourite summertime shades to create the “aura” effect. To take the look one step further, incorporate colourful, miniature beads to add a three-dimensional element to your manicure.

Photography Courtesy of Saviland

Nail art brand Saviland offers up a collection of nail brushes that can be used for all sorts of designs. To recreate the aura trend, dip into your desired shade with the dotting tool included in the set. Then, add the droplet overtop your pink base shade.

Buy it here: Saviland Brush Set, $12

Colour block French claws

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Lights Lacquer (@lightslacquer)

For this mani, bring back two classic trends: French manicures and good ol’ colour blocking. If you can never decide on a single shade of polish, why settle for one when you can have them all? Pro tip: Draw inspiration from your summertime wardrobe palette; that way your manis will always match your look!

Photography Courtesy of Sally Hansen

Loving this set’s matte finish? Give Sally Hansen’s Big Matte Top Coat a try. Sure you can shop a single matte-coloured polish, but this way you can mattify any colour you’d like — which makes achieving a uniform finish on a multicoloured look like this much easier.

Buy it here: Sally Hansen Big Matte Top Coat, $11

Photography Courtesy of Saviland

Achieve perfect French tips *every* time with a nail stamp. You’ve probably seen this tool on TikTok before, and we’re here to tell you it’s worth the hype. Simply add a swipe of polish onto the stamp, press the tip of your nail into it, and there you have it!

Buy it here: Saviland French Tip Nail Set, $16

A summer sun set

A post shared by Charlotte 🦋 (@charsgelnails_)

Still loving spring pastels? Try mimicking a summer sunset with this ombré manicure. Instead of having your ombré pattern run top to bottom on each individual nail, opt for soft yellows, pinks, purples and blues to help create a sunrise-to-sunset (or vice versa) effect across all five nails on each hand. As the summer months roll on, feel free to swap your pastels out for bold neons for a tequila sunrise-inspired heatwave manicure.

Photography Courtesy of Essie

For your sun set mani, opt for pastel polishes like this one by Essie. This butter-yellow shade serves as the perfect starting point for the gradient look! And with a name like “Sunny Business,” you’ll be right on track with summer nail trends.

When they say “Kiss the ring,” it’s not a wedding band they’re talking about. Neither is it an engagement, purity, mourning, adultery, poison-concealing squirt or any of the many other kinds of signifying rings that proliferated from the Middle Ages through to the Victorian era. No, the ring that lackeys press their lips to in obeisance is always a signet, or seal, ring — “signet” comes from the Latin word for “sign,” as in sign of success. Think Super Bowl rings. Or the Pope’s ring, a.k.a. the Ring of the Fisherman.

RELATED: Jewellers Are Using Kintsugi to Upcycle Broken Gems

It’s usually big

A signet ring can be a chunky thing, often worn on the pinky (like King Charles III), index finger or thumb — or sometimes all (like Liberace). Its singular characteristic is a flat top or bezel of varying shapes with some symbol of authority inscribed into the gold face or sometimes into a hard stone, like jasper. For example, a family crest in intaglio could serve as a signature. By being pressed into sealing wax, the engraving on the signet ring invested documents or letters with the authority of the ring holder, essentially encrypting them. This was true up until the 19th century.

Millennia earlier, Egyptian pharaohs had their names set in signet rings made of stone, like steatite, or sometimes solid gold. Earlier still, the Mesopotamians in 3500 BC wore signet rings that they pressed into tablets of wet clay as a way of signing them. Centuries later, beginning in 2900 BC, the Minoans did the same with signet rings carved out of ivory. This is why we kiss the ring — because the signet ring is power jewellery for the ages.

It functioned as a signature until…

Unlike some other jewellery, the signet ring was never merely ornamental. Instead, it expressed the self, especially the legal self. Signet rings were stand-ins for one’s identity and, by extension, conferred that identity to land deeds, loan declarations, wills — anything that required validation from someone influential.

This is why, in some cultures, signet rings were destroyed when their owner died rather than handed down. The papal signet ring was always smashed with a ceremonial hammer with each passing — and still is. Historically, the signet ring’s potential for wreaking posthumous havoc was too dangerous.

…more people learned how to read

By the 17th century, many people were literate enough to authenticate documents with their written signature so signet rings became less of a functional item and more of a fashion statement. And like the signet rings of old, the 19th-century versions were personalized with the owner’s initials or monogram and began to be set with showy gems, both precious and semi-precious.

It’s sexy, too

“He spent the time examining Dickie’s rings. He liked them both: a large rectangular green stone set in gold on the third finger of his right hand, and on the little finger of the other hand a signet ring….” In The Talented Mr. Ripley, Dickie Greenleaf’s pinky ring represents family money. It signals to Patricia Highsmith’s sociopath, Tom Ripley, that Greenleaf is his for the taking.

Besides wealth and influence, signet rings telegraph quintessential maleness, too (the homosexual undercurrents between Ripley and Greenleaf notwithstanding). Historically invested with wealth, power and maleness, a signet ring worn on a woman’s finger suggests radically enticing things, like empowerment and of-the-moment gender fluidity. Highsmith, herself an out lesbian, wore a signet ring on her pinky. And signet rings worn on the thumb read as idiosyncratic and sexually unconventional.

So, why are signet rings so in? Because they’ve never been out. Of fashion, that is — or anything else.

Below are nine stylish signet rings you can wear forever.

Social media influencers are the modern-day arbiters for what’s hot and what’s not. Whether that’s convincing you that you can’t live another day without a pair of adidas Sambas or Mikayla Nogueira’s L’Oréal mascara controversy had you racing to the drugstore to grab your own tube, the sway that content creators like Alix Earle, Glamzilla and Matilda Djerf have cannot be understated. They have huge followings — and the power to create hype that sells out products instantly.

RELATED: Should We Really Expect Honesty from Beauty Influencers?

But the tables have turned — if you’ve been on TikTok in recent months, you’ve surely seen “deinfluencing” videos on your “For You Page” where creators explain why they think you shouldn’t buy certain products. Here, we dive into the deinfluencing trend, how influencers can use it to their advantage, and what it might mean for the future of content creation.

What is deinfluencing?

Deinfluencing videos continue to go viral for doing the literal opposite of traditional influencer videos that promote fashion, beauty, wellness and home products. Instead, these posts try to convince viewers not to buy buzzy items, often while promoting more cautious spending habits.

@kayli.boyle def gonna be taken off a lot of PR lists after this🤠 #hairtok #skincare #makeup #deinfluencing ♬ original sound – kayli

The hashtag #deinfluencing has over 484 million views on TikTok and counting on videos cautioning people against buying products they felt didn’t live up to their expectations. Popular beauty goodies like the Makeup by Mario SurrealSkin foundation, wellness products like Bloom Nutrition’s Super Greens powder mix (you know the one that almost every morning routine or “get ready with me” video starts with), the omnipresent Stanley cup and the viral Zara bomber jacket are examples of goods that were rabidly popular — and now heavily deinfluenced.

Deinfluencing has sparked conversations about waste and overconsumption. The resounding message is this: Brands will continue to drop new releases, influencers will promote products (including ones they don’t truly love, but more on that in a bit), and you don’t need to buy into the hype every time.

@eliseeatsplants considering that the rare beauty blushes each last a lifetime, you may not need 6 of them #deinfluencing #makeup ♬ original sound – elise maria

“I didn’t realize how weird and abnormal [it is] to have 17 different blushes that are all the same colour,” says TikToker Elsie Maria in her de-influencing video about how normalized rabid consumerism is. “ I didn’t think about the long-term effects.”

A response to a looming recession

The prevalence and longevity of deinfluencing is also symbolic of the reality of a potential economic recession and suggests it’s a response to people being more aware of how they spend their money. According to the CBC, consumers and businesses are expecting a recession this year, and with rising inflation rates and cost of living, consumers are cutting back on spending.

@thejennaromano Deinfluencing Happening in Influencer Marketing (Prediction) #deinfluencing #deinfluencingmakeup #influencermarketing #influencer #influencermarketing #influencermarketingtip #influencers #contentcreators #contentcreatorsoftiktok ♬ original sound – Jenna | The Autistic CEO

In her video, TikToker Jenna Romano says, “in a recession, the ‘nice to have’ products and ‘need to have’ products become more distinguished.”

“This trend is great, especially during this time when we are about to enter a recession and many are searching for ways to decrease their discretionary spending,” Danica Nelson, a lifestyle and personal finance content creator and senior product marketing manager at Shopify, tells FASHION.

“Does one really need the Stanley bottle when you already have five perfectly functioning water bottles at home?” Nelson adds. (The answer, of course, would be no.)

What deinfluencing means for influencers and brands

The deinfluencing trend relates to discussions of authenticity and transparency between content creators and their audience. Not every new product actually deserves an audible gasp. People tend to build deeper connections with content creators who are relatable and honest, rather than those who always post positive reviews or share snapshots of their always-perfect lives, according to Nelson. “People tend to gravitate to creators that commit to being transparent and those that don’t solely focus on the highlights, butterflies, and rainbows of life,” says Nelson. Ultimately, authenticity is more on-trend than ever — and deinfluencing is a strategy that content creators can use to build trust with their audiences.

Deinfluencing actually provides highly valuable information to brands, and potentially presents new marketing opportunities. “It would be a gigantic missed opportunity if brands weren’t actively paying attention to their products being deinfluenced and criticized on social media.” It’s a blessing in disguise, because these videos are “valuable customer feedback and insight that companies would typically need to run costly and time-consuming research studies to get access to,” says Nelson.

In Nelson’s view, deinfluencing doesn’t signal the end of the influencer era, but rather an opportunity for consumers, influencers and brands to re-evaluate marketing and consumption habits. “In an age where almost everything is an ad and people are becoming more easily influenced by products and services they see advertised on social media, this deinfluencing trend is a refreshing perspective that encourages folks to see through the hype,” says Nelson.

After all, makeup expires. Trends come and go, and come back again (hello, rosettes). The pressure to keep up with the latest viral products is unrelenting and deinfluencing is a welcome reminder to be as intentional as ever with our purchases.

International Women’s Day is here, and what better way to to mark the occasion than by supporting women-owned brands?

With its origins as a socialist movement in the early 1900s, IWD is a celebration of the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women. This year’s theme, “Break the Bias,” calls on us all to “imagine a gender equal world.” In Canada and internationally, this dream can feel out of reach. From the abortion ban in Texas to the crisis in Ukraine that threatens the rights of LGBTQ+ people, playing an active role to create “a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination,” per IWD, is more important than ever.

We may be adults, but that doesn’t mean we always need to behave like grown-ups. When it comes to style, dressing should be fun and rule-free — as carefree as many of us felt getting dolled up with our Barbies back in the day. And with spring around the corner, what better excuse than to keep the vibe light and lively with doll-inspired accessories?

Try mixing pinks, pastels and other light hues for a dose of dopamine. Douse yourself in pearls — real or costume — and add a pair of candy-coloured sunnies to complete the look. If you’re aiming for a high-fashion approach, look to the accessories seen on the Spring 2023 runways: Chanel revealed a pink quilted purse with a heart-shaped buckle, while Moschino paired earrings to headpieces that can be mistaken for Malibu Barbie’s pool toys. The choice is yours.

Below are our favourite doll accessories, fit for a fun-filled season ahead.

It’s Time to Stop Ignoring the Overproduction of Sports Merch https://fashionmagazine.com/style/sustainability-sports-super-bowl/ Sat, 11 Feb 2023 01:58:43 +0000 https://fashionmagazine.com/?p=464860 In the fall of 2019, I attended a panel discussion hosted by the British Fashion Council on the last day of London Fashion Week (LFW). In the fall of 2019, I attended a panel discussion hosted by the British Fashion Council on the last day of London Fashion Week (LFW). Centred on the topic of sustainability and fashion, it included designer Phoebe English; model and environmental activist Arizona Muse; and Bel Jacobs, a former fashion editor who now works with the environmental protest group Extinction Rebellion. I was eager to hear what the informed and illustrious speakers had to say about how the industry can do its part by being more sustainably minded. (I’ve started using this phrase instead of the word “sustainable” since success is hard to measure or even define.)

RELATED: Feeling Existential Dread Because of Climate Change? Here’s What You Can Do

I listened patiently while the usual factoids were listed off. You know the ones — like the 2018 study stating that the fashion industry contributes to around 10 per cent of all greenhouse gas emissions. But when Jacobs, in an effort to stop the promotion of wasteful practices, called for an end to LFWs, it gave me pause, prompting me to raise my hand during the Q&A period and ask “Are there any plans to call for a boycott of the Super Bowl?”

My query seemed to catch some of the panellists off guard, and some anger churned within me when it was essentially deflected and redirected back to the evils of the fashion industry. When talking about my feelings post-event with others who weren’t in attendance, I was occasionally met with churlish astonishment that I got this upset over the fact that fashion seems to bear the brunt of our climate crisis activism when the sports industry, for example, is supremely environmentally damaging as well. Or, folks were gobsmacked that they hadn’t thought much about the inconsistency at all.

It’s easy to see why that is: It’s a generally unpopular observation. Since the sustainability conversation is anchored by alarming statistics, here’s one for your consideration: As of this writing, Google Trends reported that searches for “sustainability fashion” happen nearly five times more frequently than searches for “sustainability sports” — and that’s just one industry other than fashion that you could choose. There’s also entertainment (which was meagre by comparison, with one twelfth of the search power), automotive and travel, to name a few. The variety of climate-crisis villains is vast, yet the outrage directed toward them is palpably sparser.

I’m galled by this discrepancy because not only am I a “fashion person” — via both vocation and a personal investment in vestiary self-expression since childhood — but my interest in the concept of sustainability and design has made me realize that intersectionality and scope-broadening are important. To put it another way, I’m weary of standing outside a house that’s on fire (the earth, in this case) and focusing wholly on one method of putting it out when there are plenty at our disposal.

When I hear a statistic like the aforementioned about the fashion industry’s emissions, it makes me wonder: What’s the breakdown when it comes to garments crafted by someone like Phoebe English versus those by a company like Shein? Or, to the point of this story, are we going to continue pretending that this number doesn’t include the creation of sports gear for both players and fans? And what about uniforms for fast-food employees and medical scrubs? If all apparel falls under the category “fashion,” why is the fashion industry solely taking the blame?

And where are the venomous TikToks — an all-too-common form of commentary lobbed at the great big “fashion bogeyperson” on the daily — about the tens of millions of meat products sold at sporting events every season when we know that a study released last year found that 60 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions are caused by animal agriculture? (I can’t recall a time I was given a red hot — let alone asked to pay an exorbitant price for one — during LFW, FWIW.)

Unlike with fashion events, at any given moment of the day across the entire world, sports are being played both professionally and at an amateur level. Players need uniforms, and spectators are buying everything from food to foam fingers. On top of that, consider that for every championship game played, clothing and other paraphernalia are created with the expectation that one team is going to win.

What happens to the losing team’s commodities? The website Mental Floss attempted to answer this question in a story that includes a staggering stat about the 2007 Super Bowl: “Based on strong sales after the Chicago Bears’s 2007 NFC Championship win…Sports Authority printed more than 15,000 shirts proclaiming a Bears Super Bowl victory well before the game even started. And then the Colts beat the Bears, 29–17.” After reading the entire article, though, I came away from it feeling like we’re all losers here because what follows these lines is a photo of a group of smiling children wearing much-too-large sports jerseys that were donated to them by the evangelical Christian organization World Vision, which previously facilitated the distribution of unused products from suppliers to communities in need around the world.

Now, you’ve likely heard of markets and landfills, particularly in the Global South, that are choked with garment and accessories castoffs from countries like Canada and the United States. I see it posted about vigorously alongside calls to reframe our consumption of fashion goods. But, to date, I have never seen this reality dissected by way of a cleverly designed infographic social post with regard to sports swag or the promotional spoils that come with blockbuster movies, the latest Netflix releases or concert tours. That photo truly crystallized what I’ve been feeling this entire time when it comes to where we lay the blame of waste as well as what we do with it.

I can only speculate as to why this compartmentalizing, or sheer, wilful ignorance, is a reality. Part of my supposition comes from knowing that fashion’s reputation as an allegedly protective domain for women and members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community makes it an easy target for undue scrutiny in the distressingly bigoted world we live in.

It’s also seen as frivolous — by many people for multiple reasons — despite what a lot of us know about its ability to help us manifest our inner selves to the world or unite us by community or subculture. And perhaps most importantly, sports and entertainment — specifically the kind that requires energy-sucking productions and rampant global travel — are industries that have been designed to alleviate our daily dismay. We don’t think about our anxiety or depression when we’re watching “our team” win a game. Such distractions are salves for the trials and tribulations of the human condition.

But fashion, especially nowadays, is increasingly an echo chamber and outlet for our existential angst. Whether it’s Balenciaga’s snow-covered runways or the brands that launch on the daily touting a new miracle textile du jour, the industry has unfortunately attempted to right wrongs by creating more hype and more products. But at the very least, there’s some self- — and communal — awareness about how much needs to change in this sphere; I cannot say the same for the Super Bowl.

February is Black History Month. At FASHION, we celebrate diversity all year, but we’d like to take this opportunity to specifically highlight the exceptional talent of Black designers, who still face barriers to entrymarginalization and a lack of representation in the world of fashion.

It’s been more than two years since protests against policy brutality that escalated across the U.S. and around the world triggered change across many industries, including fashion. In May 2020, Aurora James founded the 15 Percent Pledge, calling on retailers to pledge 15 percent of shelf space to Black-owned businesses. A month after that, notable Canadian designer George Sully launched the platform Black Designers of Canada to feature and celebrate Black talent across the country.

And while we witnessed the overwhelming support of Black businesses at the height of the summer of 2020, our support must extend beyond a movement (or a month, for that matter). You’re probably familiar with a few of Canada’s renowned fashion figures, such as Kirk Pickersgill of Greta Constantine, Aurora James of Brother Vellies and Byron and Dexter Peart of Goodee (and formerly Want Les Essentiels), but there are myriad up-and-coming creatives that also deserve the spotlight. Here are some of our favourite Black Canadian designers to shop all year round.

Isn’t it funny how the shortest month of the year can feel the longest? It’s February, friends, and depending on where you are in the world, that might mean you’re staring down the final frigid stretch of a dark, long winter. Our skin is dry, our pant hems are wet, our wallets are hurting because of holiday spending and inflation. If you’re feeling the cold weather blues, we have some shopping-related news that might add a little sparkle to your day: Mejuri, the female-founded, direct-to-consumer jewellery brand, is having its first-ever site-wide sale on diamonds. As in, literally no exceptions. Frost yourself with abandon!

Mejuri’s Diamond Week sale, on now until February 7, offers shoppers 15 percent off all diamond jewellery, including some new styles released just in time for the sale. And when you factor this rare diamond discount into prices that are already transparent and accessible, your new baubles will be practically free (or at least that’s how I justify my purchases). Bonus: You’ll be supporting a Canadian jewellery brand while you build your accessories wardrobe.

Mejuri diamonds are a-plenty, so to help you narrow down your choices, we’ve rounded up 10 items that will be right at home in a jewellery capsule collection, including classic diamond stud earrings, a chic signet pinky ring and a pavé bracelet you can wear every day. Whether you’re treating yourself or spoiling a loved one for Valentine’s Day (or both), here are our favourite pieces to shop during Mejuri Diamond Week.

Grab your cream-coloured cashmere, it’s officially #vanillagirl winter. All about soft, cozy looks, the vanilla girl wraps herself in lush neutrals, likes to cuddle up in her ivory silk pyjamas and takes vanilla santal-scented bubble baths. As an extension of the “clean girl” aesthetic and “sad beige” trend, the vanilla girl is all about channelling the scent, taste, colour and texture of vanilla. She’s like the little sister of the “coastal grandmother” — more ecru knits, fewer stripes and boat totes. On TikTok, the #vanillagirl hashtag has amassed over 330 million views, while Google searches for “vanilla girl” had increased by 78% at the end of 2022, according to clothing brand Pour Moi.

Remember: This TikTok-approved niche aesthetic can be recreated by anyone — all you need is a comfy cable-knit sweater, fuzzy accessories and a warm vanilla scent to spritz. (And maybe a stain removal pen because of all that light-coloured fabric.)

Ready to embrace the vanilla girl trend? Click through the gallery below for the ultimate #vanillagirl starter pack.
