Linda Evangelista. Naomi Campbell. Christy Turlington. Cindy Crawford. This world-famous foursome redefined what it meant to be a model by originating “super” status decades ago. As emblems of pop culture, fashion and celebrity all wrapped into one, the ’90s supermodels transcended industries and even individual identities. And now, an in-depth Apple TV Plus docu-series is revisiting their rise to the top. They were, as the trailer teases, “larger than life.” This makes their street style all the more iconic.

You see, it was through these documented outings that we got a glimpse of who the legends were as people. Via unexpected pairings and accessorizing accents, there’s a special kind of covert communication embedded in this sartorial self-expression. Here, FASHION breaks down the greatest street style hits of the ’90s supermodels — and how to recreate them.

Linda Evangelista

Thanks to her chameleon-catwalk abilities, Linda Evangelista holds a self-assured legacy in the supermodel sphere. “We don’t wake up for less than $10,000 a day,” she once famously uttered. The above picture — which shows her the Gianni Versace boutique in 1990 — surely explains why. The playful riff on power suiting is both glamorous and laid back, and it oozes know-your-worth confidence.

Uniqlo Pleated Wide Pants

Uniqlo pleated pants

Fitted at the waist with just enough slouch through the legs, these pleated trousers are the coziest way to emulate high-fashion street style. With a high-waisted cut, they can be easily styled with any cropped blouse or blazer. Plus, their elastic waistband is strategically hidden for a breathable wearer experience and a sleek aesthetic finish.

ICYMI, we’re in a headband renaissance. As luck would have it, Linda Evangelista’s athleisure hair accessory is the ultimate source of inspiration. Follow her lead with this 10-pack of non-slip black bands that are intended for all-day wear and every hair type, from textured curls to straightened strands. Not to mention, they’re crafted not to cause headaches. Because the first step in having a good time is getting your hair out of your face.

Naomi Campbell

There’s a reason Naomi Campbell lives on basically everyone’s moodboard. From her captivating runway walk to her rumoured fashion feuds, the British model’s presence in the fashion sphere was never lacking personality. Pictured here on her way to an industry party in New York City, the ’90s legend opted for an all-white ensemble with individualized touches via chunky gold jewellery.

Allora Mini Dress

Allora Mini Dress

Similar to Campbell’s monochrome moment, the beauty of a crisp white mini dress is the possibilities it brings. Wear it with an unnecessary belt, layer on some fringe à la Naomi or keep it minimal for the Sofia Richie effect. Pro tip: Keep a crisp white button-up on hand to keep the chill off, and also, as an unexpected dupe in lieu of a handbag.

Christy Turlington

The magic of this look is that it is simultaneously so simple yet so good. Here, Christy Turlington makes the case for relaxed ‘90s cuts, gives a lesson in fall layering and offers inspiration for channelling your inner whimsigoth (the nostalgic TikTok-born aesthetic comprising cardigans, flowy maxi skirts and saturated tones). Seen on her way to a runway show at New York Fashion Week in 1993, her ludicrously capacious bag and glossy boots exude expert street style prowess.

Cindy Crawford

Putting a cool girl spin on traditional workwear is kind of Cindy Crawford’s calling card. Off the runway, the supermodel was known for her love of oversized leather jackets, worn both with Levi’s high-waisted jeans and mini skirts. In the above picture — taken in the Winter of 1990 — she paired the key piece with a turtleneck, a preppy tube skirt and a pair of sheer tights.

You know that famous line from Sex and the City when Carrie says “I like my money right where I can see it — hanging in my closet”? We like to inject that OG fashionista energy with a healthy helping of 2023 inflation realism, which is why we’re always on the lookout for a great sale. If you also have a penchant for shopping and live for the thrill of a deep discount, you’re in luck because Amazon Prime Day Canada 2023 round two is right around the corner.

That’s right, the sale returns as Prime Big Deal Days on October 10 to 11, so get your wish list (and your credit card) ready.

Whether you’re looking to update your wardrobe or restock your cosmetics stash with your favourite beauty products, Amazon Prime Day 2023 has deals that’ll make you click “add to cart” so fast, it would knock Carrie’s Manolos off.

What is Prime Big Deal Days, exactly?

Amazon Prime Days are limited-time shopping events that offer Prime members major deals across apparel, home, technology, beauty, personal care, and more for two days only.

When are Amazon Prime Big Deal Days 2023?

Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days event is happening from Tuesday, October 10 to Wednesday, October 11.

Who can take advantage of Amazon Prime Day deals?

To take advantage of the giant savings that this sale is known to offer, you’ll need to be a Prime member. After a complimentary 30-day free trial (which you should totally take advantage of during this year’s Prime Day sale if you can), a Canadian Prime membership costs $9.99 plus tax per month.

And there are other reasons to stick around after Prime Days are done — an Amazon Prime membership comes with a bunch of perks, like fast, free delivery on tons of products, exclusive deals year-round, access to Prime video and more.

What kind of deals can we expect during Prime Big Deal Days 2023?

Like most things Prime Day-related, the deals stay pretty top-secret until closer to the two-day event. That said, we’re still thinking about some of the sweet deals we shopped during the Amazon Prime Day in July, including beloved beauty products like this CeraVe cleanser that was seriously marked down. “I don’t really understand how fashion shows work,” White Lotus actor Haley Lu Richardson told a New York Times reporter at the Diesel show in Milan in February. It’s not surprising that Richardson, who plays Portia in season two of the hit show, was a bit confounded. Even an industry vet like myself can be perplexed by what a designer puts forth on the runway. What, for example, were we to make of Schiaparelli’s lion’s-head dress for the Spring 2023 couture collection? Was it a publicity stunt or a way to remind us of the house’s Surrealist roots? Or was artistic director Daniel Roseberry actually hoping it would be purchased and worn? Read on to see what I keep in mind when viewing a runway show.

Consider who is in charge

Goals vary among the people who are setting the agenda at a fashion label. Some are conceptualists (Iris van Herpen, Yohji Yamamoto, Kei Ninomiya at Noir) who strive to create something that has never been seen before. Their “clothes” — if you can call them that — can sometimes look like moving sculptures, which pretty much is, in fact, what they are. These are the sorts of shows that often elicit comments such as “Who is going to wear that?” But that’s missing the point of the exercise. These designers aren’t working to solve a problem like “What should I wear to the office this fall?” They are meeting a creative challenge that they have set for themselves. These visionaries will often have lucrative commercial ventures, like fragrances (Viktor & Rolf), that support their businesses. Cases in point: Rei Kawakubo’s successful T-shirt line collab with Nike and the now iconic sneaker collab with Converse, both under the label Comme des Garçons Play.

This is very different from people like Emilia Wickstead and Tanya Taylor, who deliver more-familiar wares in updated shapes and new fabrics and prints. They, too, are designers, but their end game is to solve a problem like “What should I wear to my niece’s wedding?” Or, as in the case of Max Mara and Alberta Ferretti, they simply want to entice us with something beautiful and luxurious that we can’t resist.

Most designers fall somewhere between these two extremes. They offer originality and relatability. Think Dries Van Noten, Miuccia Prada, Pierpaolo Piccioli at Valentino, Maria Grazia Chiuri at Dior, Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, Anthony Vaccarello at Saint Laurent and Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough at Proenza Schouler.

Assess the environment

A post shared by Kanye Westaurant (@kanyewestaurant_)

Often, there are clues about a designer’s intent in the show’s set design and music. Classical music playing in a gilded ballroom sets a very different tone than models walking through a field in silence. Many designers today commission art installations to create a unique setting that can become a major social media moment. Bonus: The looks are immediately identifiable on social media. There’s no way Stella McCartney’s wild horses darting around an equestrian arena can be confused with Akris’s industrial backdrop — even though both designers did lots of checked suits for Fall 2023. Sometimes, though, the atmosphere can overshadow the clothes. Does anyone remember anything from Balenciaga’s Spring 2023 presentation other than Ye marching through the mud?

Don’t judge a designer by their first show for a brand

When a designer jumps into a new role, it takes a while for them to find their way. They need to learn how to work with a production team, and that production team needs to learn how to work with them. Some designers create by draping cloth on the body, while others hand over sketches that need to be interpreted. Everyone needs to learn how to work together to ensure that what’s in the designer’s head can be executed as intended. And that takes time.

Where is the show taking place?

Historical context matters, and a show’s location can be a major indicator as to how you should frame what you see. New York’s Seventh Avenue was a manufacturing hub as far back as the early 20th century, so designers in that city tend to be more business-minded (Michael Kors, Tory Burch). London, England, which gave us the ’60s micro mini and ’70s punk, has always challenged the status quo and has an element of eccentricity that is pretty much expected (Vivienne Westwood, Christopher Kane, JW Anderson). Milan’s fashion industry grew from the fabric mills of Northern Italy, so there’s a big emphasis on materials (Fendi, Bottega Veneta, Missoni). And Paris fashion is rooted in haute couture, which grew out of the imperial court, cementing its position as the epicentre of luxury and craft at the highest level. This, in turn, draws creators from around the world, but only those deemed worthy in terms of technique and originality are given a slot on the official calendar.

There are exceptions, of course. The experimental sisters behind Rodarte mostly show their avant-garde looks in New York, while in Paris, Virginie Viard tends to stick to the tried-and-true at Chanel. And some designers switch fashion capitals now and then or stage off-calendar destination shows elsewhere around the globe. But you can pretty much assume that the closer you are to the Eiffel Tower, the more likely it is that what you will see on the runway is art.

Is it fashion or clickbait?

A post shared by coperni (@coperni)

This is a hard question to answer. Some runway items are just too expensive to make and will only be used for an ad campaign or window display. Still, these are valuable marketing tools that are worth their weight in gold. According to Women’s Wear Daily, in the 48 hours following Coperni presenting its spray-on dress in Paris, the event’s media impact value was measured at $36.3 million, with nearly 80 per cent attributed to social media. However, the dress was never produced beyond the runway version.

And sometimes it’s not about the clothes at all

As compelling as the looks at Gucci and Hermès are, do they matter? Probably not, because in the end, a large portion of those houses’ revenue comes from bags and leather goods. But that shouldn’t stop us from enjoying their shows.

A sense of possibility pulses through the style sphere during London Fashion Week. Known as a hub for emerging talent, the British capital has become a hotbed of innovative resourcefulness, experimental metaphors and refreshingly diverse runways. The London Fashion Week Spring 2024 shows were no exception.

Ashish’s bedazzled collection (below) was a dreamy escape with models from all walks of life, thus showcasing that fantastical clothing is for everyone. Erdem’s upcycled runway, helmed by Canadian-born designer Erdem Moralioğlu, championed a mix-and-match aesthetic of textiles pulled from historic archives. Standout shows thoughtfully explore the intricacies of the everyday — from love and loss to inside jokes and identity experimentation. One thing’s for sure: There was no shortage of creativity on the catwalk.

Below, FASHION outlines the most noteworthy presentations at London Fashion Week spring 2024.

Simone Rocha: Coming up roses

Picture this: Florals for spring — but it actually is groundbreaking. Leave it to Simone Rocha, the designer known for fanciful frothy creations, who put a fresh spin on the sartorial stereotype with bouquets of roses nestled under flowy mesh ensembles. Romance exuded her collection — with oversized fabric rosettes, bows trailing from mini-dresses, and an array of signature Rocha ruffles, tulle and lace. There was also a focus on bridal extravagance, via pearl-adorned white Crocs and a deliciously decorated wedding cake bag. Embellished fantasy has become Rocha’s calling card, and with the news that she will be Jean Paul Gaultier’s next guest couturier, there’s certainly more in store.

Burberry: In the trenches

Burberry S24

For his sophomore season as creative director of the legendary British fashion house, Daniel Lee took cues from the classics and then changed things up. Guests gathered under a tartan-emblazoned tent in north London, hot water bottles were party favours, and the iconic archetypal Burberry trench was reimagined. Models wore tailored coats with low-slung belts, busy patterns, and, on occasion, toughened leather silhouettes sans sleeves. There was a throughline of Burberry Blue, be it through sunglass rims, shoe adornments or solid-coloured coats — all of which stood out against the severely dark lipstick that reigned supreme. With his second runway show, Daniel Lee brought elevated innovation and a bit of grunge to the next era of the brand, while still honouring the Britishness of Burberry.

JW Anderson: Clay clothing

JW Anderson S24

Fashion takes itself all too seriously sometimes. This is the idea designer Johnathan Anderson poked fun of for his London Fashion Week Spring 2024 collection, wherein he aimed to put “playfulness in pragmatism.” First up, an assortment of outfits that looked as though they were moulded from Play-Doh — and they kind of were. Made using plasticine, a British brand of modelling clay, the designs were bumpy, stiff and wonderfully wonky, thus emulating a life-size version of a toddler’s play-time final product. Ostensibly having helium on his mind, he also sent inflated separates down the runway, a natural extension of his plastic fish bag mini-dress from last year. There were more wearable pieces too, from satin voluminous cargo pants to big structured blazers. But overall, the mood was weird, a little uncomfortable, and quite a bit confusing. Well played.

Di Petsa: Mirror mirror

Di Petsa S24 026
Photography courtesy of launchmetrics.com/spotlight

No one is doing sartorial sensuality quite like Di Petsa. The London-based label is known for employing size-inclusive runways to showcase its sexy “wet look” dresses. This season, designer Dimitra Petsa drew inspiration from the Goddess of Love Venus — also known as Aphrodite. The collection featured her signature damp-like draping, with ornamental add-ons like gemstone embellishments and metallic fabrics. As for the aforementioned theme of love? That was front and centre when select models walked the runway mesmerized by their own reflections in hand-held mirrors. Sometimes the best infatuation is the kind you have with yourself.

Richard Quinn: The circle of life

Richard Quinn S24 043
Photography courtesy of launchmetrics.com/spotlight

Held in a grand London ballroom, Richard Quinn’s Spring 2024 show was an ornate ode to the eponymous designer’s late father, who recently passed away. True to Quinn’s signatures, the show was full of opulent embellishments, from abundant florals to detailed lace. The line took on a contemplative tone with regal opera gloves, exaggerated collars, and cage dresses in both grievous blacks and airy off-whites. While marking a loss, there was a sense of hope via playful proportions and polished statement bows. Canadian supermodel (and FASHION September 2023 cover star) Jessica Stam closed the show in a shimmery bridal jumpsuit, so as to say, life is full of loss — but it’s also full of love.

Chopova Lowena: Two is better than one

Chopova Lowena S24 001
Photography courtesy of launchmetrics.com/spotlight

In an era of internet subcultures, it can feel as though opposing ends of the style spectrum are never meant to mix. A regencycore enthusiast sharing clothes with a gothic girlie? Inconceivable! Well, not according to Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena-Irons, who merged toughened skater culture with frilly folkloric imagery for their Spring 2024 show at London Fashion Week. Think studded black dresses with puffed white collars, heavy trenches with delicate frilly socks, and a fishnet top paired with a billowing layered white skirt. The result is a sort of medieval edge-Lord who transcends all aesthetic associations. It’s unexpected, clever, and pretty hilarious. And in the age of TikTok, it just might become its own kind of “core.”

With his portrayal of Elvis in Sofia Coppola’s upcoming Priscilla Presley biopic, Priscilla, already generating buzz at this year’s Venice Film Festival, Jacob Elordi is having a movie star moment — and his impressive designer bag collection is along for the (stylish) ride.

RELATED: In Defence of the Ludicrously Capacious Handbag

Standing at six feet five inches tall, the Euphoria actor’s height alone gives him a commanding presence, but it’s his timeless and sophisticated fashion sense that has reinforced his stylishly confident persona in recent years. And while Elordi often takes quite a classic approach to dressing, favouring staples like fitted trousers and button-down collared shirts as the foundation for many of his go-to looks, the unconventional addition of a designer handbag to many of his outfits has caught people’s attention.

Adding to Elordi’s mystique is that fact that many of the designer bags he reaches for are from the brands’ women’s collections. (Take the Bottega Veneta Andiamo handbag he’s been favouring.) The Euphoria star has been applauded for eschewing gender norms via his accessory choices.

The actor doesn’t reserve his designer pieces just for special occasions either and has been known spruce up a seemingly simple street style look with a luxe carryall, making the accessories appear all the more true to his personal style.

With a wide range of shoulder bags and crossbody handbags from luxury designers such as Bottega Venetta, Chanel and Celine, Elordi has a wardrobe full of coveted accessories that would make any fashion fan envious.

Here’s our round-up of the best Jacob Elordi designer bag looks so far — and what makes each outfit unique.

Chanel in Venice

Elordi’s Chanel shoulder bag stole the show while promoting Priscilla with director Sofia Coppola at the Venice Film Festival. He let the handbag be the star of the outfit, complementing the standout accessory with a simple white collared shirt and grey, straight-leg trousers for a simple, polished look.

A Louis Vuitton travel look

Using a designer bag as a carry-on is a glam statement that many can only dream of making, but when Elordi touched down at an Italian airport ahead of the Venice Film Festival, he did just that. With his Louis Vuitton Monogram Speedy duffel bag, which is also reportedly known as the “millionaire” bag from Pharrell’s debut collection for the brand, in hand, Elordi’s casual travel outfit was immediately elevated.

A barley-there baguette bag

While out and about in Milan this past June, Elordi hid the tiniest of mini handbags under his arm. The brand isn’t quite visible (could it be a mini Coach Tabby?), the purse still plays a big part in this highly accessorized look. Between his simple T-shirt, jeans and sneakers paired with sunglasses, a bucket hat, a mini baguette bag and the book he’s holding, we can’t help but wonder: 1. What is he reading and, more importantly, 2. what can he possibly fit into that bag?

Bottega with a side of athleisure

In a quintessential celeb off-duty look, Elordi was spotted carrying what appears to be two Starbucks drinks in one hand and the trendy aforementioned Bottega Veneta Andiamo bag on his arm. Featuring the brand’s iconic intrecciato weave, this tote has been regarded as one of 2023’s most popular accessories, so it’s no surprise that it’s found a home in Elordi’s elite collection.

An all-leather Burberry moment

To attend Burberry’s Fall 2022 collection presentation in London, Elordi wore a sleek black and white outfit that was fit for the sophisticated occasion. While the look showcases Elordi’s timeless style sensibilities, the most exciting aspect is how his leather Burberry crossbody bag perfectly matches his leather jacket, even down to the identical white contrast stitching on both pieces.

It’s true what they say: All good things must come to an end. Earlier this week, news broke that after two glorious decades together, Sarah Burton and Alexander McQueen are going their separate ways.

During her 13-year tenure as creative director of the brand, Burton became known for her commitment to craftsmanship and marrying conceptual storytelling with impeccable tailoring. She’s also been responsible for some serious wow-worthy red carpet, runway and royal style moments, like Kate Middleton’s wedding dress and Timothée Chalamet’s Dune premiere ensemble. Her final contributions to the fashion house will be revealed in Paris later this month at the brand’s Spring 2024 ready-to-wear show.

“Above all I want to thank [the late] Lee Alexander McQueen,” says Burton in a release from the brand. “He taught me so much and I am eternally grateful to him. I am looking forward to the future and my next chapter and will always carry this treasured time with me.”

Pink and plastic dolls aren’t what normally come to mind when envisioning a woodsy cabin trip, yet somehow, in Roots’ recent collaboration with Barbie, it works. (Barbie can do anything, duh.) The lineup of sweatshirts, sweatpants, varsity jackets and leather goods all marry the iconic Roots salt and pepper colourway and block lettering with Barbie’s curvy penmanship and unmistakable pink. What’s more, a limited-edition Barbie doll is available for purchase — and she’s dressed head to toe in the most iconic Roots styles.

Introducing contemporary fine jewellery label, Authorne

Photography by Little Wolf Collective

Allow us to introduce you to contemporary artist Rachel Bu’s new fine jewellery line, Authorne. What sets this Canadian-Chinese designer apart isn’t an expat status (she’s a New Yorker, now) or an intensely curated product line, it’s her ability to turn intricate, sculptural objects into wearable art, all while infusing it with her own personal history — a hybrid of Eastern and Western influence. Call it a negotiation of duality, Bu is surely one of a kind.

Central to the inaugural collection are five motifs: the Octopus, the Cicada, the Guardians, the Angel & Devil and the Mother Chain, but Bu also takes on custom projects for anyone hunting down a true bespoke piece.

New denim for fall? An absolute must! Especially these new circular cotton denim pieces from Simons. The collection — comprised of jeans, overalls and a denim skirt — is derived from regenerative agriculture, using 78 per cent fewer cubic metres of water and emitting 35 per cent less carbon dioxide than conventional denim. Style tip: Pair a piece from this capsule with chic loafers and an oversized bag for the perfect autumnal outfit.

Canada Goose’s latest campaign just screams “girl power”

Photography by Annie Leibovitz

Canada Goose’s latest Live in the Open campaign tells a story about female empowerment. It’s photographed by the iconic Annie Leibovitz, and features three powerhouse women: actress and musician Sheila Atim, BAFTA-winning wildlife filmmaker and cinematographer Sophie Darlington and Olympic ice hockey goalie Kimberly Newell. Captured on the red hills of New Mexico, these three women are each sporting the Canada Goose Fall 2023 collection in their own unique way.

Stuart Vevers is the kind of fashion insider who could be… inaccessible. A true industry veteran, Vevers, who recently marked 10 years at the helm of Coach, cut his teeth at Calvin Klein in New York after leaving his hometown of Yorkshire, England to study fashion design in London. What followed was tenures at some of the most sought-after labels, including Bottega Veneta, Mulberry, and Loewe, where he honed a mastery in accessories and a knack for creating creating fly-off-shelves It items, like the iconic Emmy bag from Mulberry that once hung nonstop from Kate Moss‘s supermodel arm.

And at Coach, where he has held the position of creative director since September 2013, Vevers has steered the classic American brand in new directions — and into new wardrobes — by expanding the legendary accessories label’s apparel offerings and authentically reaching increasingly younger generations. (This is no accident — read on to learn about Vevers’ respect for the “next” generation.)

So, you see, Vevers could be somewhat affected by his decades of acclaim. Instead, the man who joins me on Zoom on a 35-degree September day in New York is warm, fully engaged in the conversation and generous with his responses, not to mention his time (the runway presentation for Coach’s Spring 2024 collection was just a few hours later, on the eve of New York Fashion Week‘s official Spring 2024 calendar). We related almost immediately over the concept of crafting clothes for a club kid lifestyle (his at English clubs, my fiancé’s at Toronto raves) and I quickly understood some of the ingredients to Vever’s success: He’s kind. And humble. And deeply connected to both family and history — that of his upbringing (his father attended his first fashion show ever that evening); that of Coach (he speaks with reverence about the brand’s archives and its roots in New York City); and that of his own family (he took a bow at the end of Coach’s Spring 2024 show that evening with his toddler son in his arms).

It was poetic, then, that Vevers staged his 10-year anniversary collection presentation at the New York Public Library, where so many stories are housed. There, famous faces like Jennifer Lopez and Lil Nas X gathered with editors, buyers and tastemakers to watch the Spring 2024 show where leather bowling bags and mini totes shaped like ducks dangled off the arms of models of different genders and sizes.

The collection, full of signature oversized leather jackets, fresh knit dresses, elevated suiting and leather slips, and which didn’t include a single high heel, if memory serves, felt reflective of the next generation that Vevers fondly speaks of — cool, a little edgy and entirely uninterested in dusty old rules. At a dinner after the presentation, an emotional Vevers reflected on his decade at Coach and what keeps him loving his work after all these years: “Fashion should be about joy, about celebration and, to paraphrase my hero Keith Haring, it should be for everyone.”

Here, get to know Coach creative director Stuart Vevers a little better, plus take a peek at highlights from the designer’s 10-year anniversary presentation.

Where did your interest in fashion initially came from?

That’s a great question. My grandmother was an amateur costume designer and made costumes for the amateur dramatic shows in her town, and she would always dress me and my brother and cousins up to go see her shows. There was something there; it wasn’t exactly fashion but she was creative and always making things. And I adored her. So she was my first inspiration.

Photography courtesy of Coach

I grew up in a relatively small city in the U.K., far from [any kind of ] fashion capitals. My parents didn’t go to college, so I grew up in a traditional working class family environment and I wasn’t exposed to [fashion]. But I was tall from quite a young age, so I could get into nightclubs from about 15. I started dressing up and my grandmother, who was a wizard on the machine, would help me make some of my clubbing outfits. That’s when I started to look at magazines and books around style. But even at that point, I don’t think I ever dreamt I would become a designer.

I was always as a kid drawing, painting. So it wasn’t that long until I realized that [fashion’s] where I wanted to go. But in fact my father, who’s coming to his first fashion show tonight, when I first said I wanted to study fashion, he was horrified [laughs].

How do you stay energized and keep inspiration flowing when creating for a brand with a history like Coach?

I think where I am (New York) certainly helps. I really believe New York is the most creative city in the world. There’s so much creative energy, amazing style, characters, just walking down the street is inspiration. And I think also not being from the U.S., not being from New York, there’s something in that; I sometimes feel like I’m working on a movie set and it keeps me alert to how fortunate I am to be in this city that is so inspiring. And it just happens to have always been Coach’s home, where it started in 1941. So it’s a great place to be inspired by what’s happening today, but also what happened in the past.

Photography courtesy of Coach

Speaking of the past, how do you go about mining Coach’s history?

We have an amazing archive. And it’s full of real samples, and they’re arranged chronologically, so you have things from the ’40s, all the way up to today. We’ve got drawers and drawers of catalogues and editorial from over the decades. I’ll go down now and wander through and see if anything jumps out, and sometimes an individual piece will become the starting point for something. And sometimes I’ll reference it very directly. Or sometimes it might be a combination of colours, or it sparks a memory of something. It’s amazing to have that resource. But what’s great is you never know where it’s going to take you.

You’ve been the creative mind behind quite a lot of It bags. How does it feel to see those designs walking down the street on someone’s arm?

Oh, it’s one of the best things about what I do! When we were all in lockdown not so long ago, and I was kind of trying to figure out my place in the world and I was like, Why would anyone care about fashion right now when there’s so many bigger things happening in our lives?, it actually brought me back to what I love most about fashion. And I realized that actually, it brings joy and, at its best, it makes people happy. It makes them feel more confident walking into a room, it just gives them that spark when they leave the front door.

On TikTok, I see the Pillow Tabby on someone Gen Z; I remember buying my first Coach bag more than 20 years ago. How do you approach designing for multiple generations?

Honestly, I’m most inspired by the current generation and I have a fascination with youth culture, counterculture, pop culture, through history, but also very much today. I feel like the current generation, or sometimes we call it the “next generation,” really establish what’s going to come next. And I think all of us, whatever age we are, are very inspired by that.

Today’s generation is dramatically changing the way that I think about so many things, not just fashion. And sometimes it’s challenging because sometimes they are challenging things you’ve established that you feel comfortable with. But it’s really vital to listen and to think about what they’re saying. And I think we’re all, in fact, then influenced by that.

Have you ever felt exhausted in an energizing way? These are the only words to describe my physical state after spending six gloriously chaotic days racing to runway shows around New York City. The jam-packed Spring 2024 fashion week calendar has just come to a close, and all the rumours are true: Anything can happen in the city that never sleeps, especially when catwalks are involved.

RELATED: The Coolest Street Style Looks at New York Fashion Week

Throughout the week, there were several stunts — both intentional and unwanted. At Elena Velez, a pre-planned disaster found models wrestling in piles of mud, thus ruining their clothes and sparking debate about how much spectacle is too much.

At Coach, PETA members crashed the walkway to protest leather, which Vogue called “strange” since the brand has been prioritizing upcycled and regenerated materials.

But the most heartwarming events focused on craftsmanship. Indigenous designer Justin Jacob Louis debuted his namesake gender-inclusive label with a vibrant runway presentation. Heritage luxury luggage brand Rimowa launched an interactive display to mark its 125th anniversary. From emerging and established talent alike, a sense of excitement radiated through the mayhem. And really, what’s more New York than that?

Here’s everything to know about the most noteworthy moments at New York Fashion Week Spring 2024.

Tiffany & Co.: Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Tiffany x Givenchy

Is any costume as timeless as Audrey Hepburn’s ensemble in Breakfast at Tiffany’s? The oeuvre of the ingenue in a black Givenchy dress and a stack of opulent pearls has been endlessly referenced. But when Tiffany & Co. previewed its Blue Book 2023: Out of the Blue collection in partnership with Givenchy haute couture, this image practically came to life. At the newly renovated Landmark on Fifth Avenue, models sauntered in statement jewels and equally exquisite gowns. Inspired by fantastical interpretations of the sea, the collection’s themes span glistening shells, coral and starfish. And with the addition of thick black sunglasses and beehive updos, many looks evoked a modern-day Holly Golightly peering through the Tiffany store windows.

Helmut Lang: Peter Do’s polarizing debut

A model walks the runway during the Helmut Lang Spring 2024 show at New York Fashion Week. (Photography by Getty Images)

In the ’90s, Helmut Lang pioneered a gritty aesthetic of androgynous BDSM-infused sexiness. So when it was announced that modernist designer Peter Do would be showcasing his first collection as the house’s creative director in September, it quickly became a highly anticipated event. Held at the top of the week, the show was an undeniable ode to Lang, replete with bondage-accented suits, ruched T-shirts and an array of subversive basics. Some said it borrowed too much from Lang’s legacy and that Do wrongly played things safe at a label known for disruption. Others praised Do’s reimagined take on the storied brand. One thing’s for sure: He has our attention.

Wiederhoeft: Phantom of the Opera

Wiederhoeft

Unlike many viral antics, designer Jackson Wiederhoeft conjures stunts that actually complement his clothing. For his latest show — “Night Terror At The Opera” — he crafted a deliciously unsettling three-act performance inside a dimly-lit theatre. Struts were exaggerated and satirical, while dramatic side skits showed models laughing at the audience and bickering with each other. It felt extremely a propos for a collection of intense corseting, campy colourful proportions, and intricate tear-drop gem embellishments. To top it off, Julia Fox was the archetypal Wiederhoeft woman, sitting front row in a severely cinched bridal mini dress, a floor-grazing ruffled-hemmed veil, and dark horror movie makeup. Encore!

COS: Got you covered

COS Spring 2024

Often, the best kind of fashion involves finding new ways to answer age-old questions. For its Autumn/Winter 2023 collection, COS took on the conundrum of cold-weather dressing. Set against a rich brown runway, models walked between two winding metallic walls that reflected the sunset for a stylistic cityscape. Wearing chic sweater dresses, shearling coats, and slinky maxi-skirt sets, their outfits emphasized effortless weather-proof wearability. Scarves were swathed into belted dresses, and sweaters hung from cozy balaclavas. Above all, COS offered the magic rarity of clothes on a runway that actually feel real.

Ralph Lauren: Welcome to New York

Ralph Lauren’s post-pandemic absence from New York Fashion Week has felt like an indication of the industry’s present-day precarity. The quintessential NYC brand is a staple of Americana fashion, thanks to codes like preppy polos and Western jeans. So to mark its first time back in the city’s runway circuit since 2019, these celebrated emblems were turned up a notch. The show drew a star-studded guest list from Jennifer Lopez to Diane Keaton, with key looks including acid-wash denim, fringe galore and metallic evening gowns. One particularly striking golden dress was modelled by ’90s supermodel Christy Turlington. Perfectly fitting for a theme of lasting legends.

Proenza Schouler: Elevated essentials

In an industry cluttered with clickbait, design duo Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez take the winning approach of sobering nonchalance. For their Spring 2024 collection, they showed once again how uncomplicated clothing doesn’t have to be boring. Alongside brand staples like tailored suiting, there was a playful effortlessness via free-flowing fishnet dresses, sequined skirts and colourful layered gauzy garments. The crowd was full of 2023 style icons — from Sofia Richie to Pamela Anderson — proving that Proenza Schouler’s practical message is cooler than ever. The collection further drove this point home by premiering its first-ever “PS” monogram.

LaQuan Smith: Where’s the party?

Leave it to designer LaQuan Smith to throw a fashion fête. “I always try to remember that the LaQuan Smith woman is on her way to something fabulous,” he told Vogue of his latest collection. Fittingly, his catwalk felt like a makeshift nightclub, with models parading down a red-lit runway in intensely bright sets. From sharp-cropped jackets with no pants to nipple-baring sheer tops with baggy metallic cargo slacks, the celeb-favourite brand took its sexy sensibilities to new experimental heights. Still, there’s a lesson to be learned. The first step in having a good time? Dress like one.

Michael Kors: Celebrity Central

People watchers, this one’s for you. The front row of Michael Kors’ riverfront runway was stacked with A-listers who came to see the designer’s vacation-inspired collection. Blake Lively wore a gilded pantsuit. Vanessa Hudgens donned a monochromatic caped look. Halle Berry stunned in a double-slitted dress. On the runway, garments exuded a sense of escapist ease, spanning floral lacy separates and breezy caftans. With stars like Tiffany Haddish, Olivia Wilde and Ellen Pompeo looking on, the affair was pure Tomato Girl aspiration.

PAM IN CHARGE

Pamela Anderson is having an incredible year with the release of a book and documentary, a food show in the works and a whole new generation of fans. And the Pam-aissance has just begun.

WORDS BY ANNIKA LAUTENS

When Pamela Anderson pops onto my screen in July, she’s a bit stressed. “I think I wrecked my sourdough!” she exclaims, covering her face with doughy hands. I look at the clock: It’s 8 a.m. in her hometown of Ladysmith, B.C. “You’re baking bread this early in the morning?” I ask incredulously. She waves me off with a grin. “I let it rise overnight and put it in the oven earlier today.” It turns out that Anderson has already been up for hours because of her dogs. What can she say? “I’m in bread mode,” she laughs, her signature platinum-blond hair dusting the shoulders of her white T-shirt. And these days she has a lot to laugh about.

fashion october 2023
Jacket, $1,700, and skirt, $935, Sportmax. Earrings, $9,000, Tiffany & Co.

At 56, Anderson is having a renaissance — or “Pam- aissance,” as the internet has coined it. It started in early 2023, when she released her Netflix documentary, Pamela: A Love Story [this interview occurred before the SAG- AFTRA actors’ strike], accompanying memoir, Love, Pamela, and digital newsletter. The buzz got bigger when her name started to swirl around casting rumours about season three of The White Lotus. Then, when she started re-emerging on red carpets, the fanfare turned into a communal trip down memory lane.

Tutorials on how to achieve her messy bun from the ’90s trended. Thin eyebrows and smoky eyes were seen all over content creators’ feeds. And #pamelaandersonstyle has hit 320.4 million views (and counting!) on TikTok. “I think it’s funny,” she shares, revealing that her sons, Brandon Thomas and Dylan Jagger Lee, first brought the trend to her attention. “When you start hearing that your image is on different mood boards, it’s pretty surreal. But it also shows that I marched to the beat of my own drum.”

Today, the Anderson I’m seeing is still her own drummer, but this time she’s playing a different rhythm. She appears weightless — as if a giant designer backpack has been lifted off her shoulders. She giggles frequently, tossing her beachy waves back with reckless abandon. She moves restlessly, her body bursting with energy. And, overall, Anderson exudes an indescribable ethereal essence that makes me think she would be perfectly at home in an enchanted forest. And, in a way, she is, having moved back to her family home on Vancouver Island. Perhaps it’s the distance from L.A. or the wisdom that comes with age, but this new Pamela Anderson speaks confidently. Unlike her younger self, she is telling her own story — and it’s beautiful to behold.

“I’ve always kind of known that things would get better when I was older; I just didn’t know when that time was coming,” Anderson reflects. “It’s nice to be seen. It’s not something I’ve ever really experienced.” Anderson, who grew up in Canada, admits she wasn’t the “pretty princess” her mother probably wanted. While her mom was rocking a bouffant updo and gingham pants, Anderson was “eating” mud pies. That’s not to say that her parents didn’t influence her. Anderson recalls her mother telling her: “There’s no such thing as natural beauty — it takes at least an hour in front of a mirror. And you are more powerful if you are pretty.” When asked how this might have affected her, Anderson reflects on the implications of it but can’t quite put them into words.

I’VE ALWAYS KIND OF KNOWN THAT THINGS WOULD GET BETTER WHEN I WAS OLDER; I JUST DIDN’T KNOW WHEN THAT TIME WAS COMING.

Then, in 1989, Anderson proved that Jumbotrons can be used for more than just uncomfortable close-ups. She credits her neighbours at the time, who were Labatt’s Beer reps, for giving her tickets to a B.C. football game. Once they saw the crowd’s reaction to Anderson up on the screen, wearing her branded crop top, the brewery asked her to star in its next ad campaign, and it was shortly after that that Playboy called about its October ’89 cover.

But there was an issue with her hair. You see, it wasn’t Anderson’s intention to be blond. While on her way to the Playboy Mansion, she used too much Sun-In on her naturally brown hair and the result was that her tresses turned the colour of “a manila envelope,” she laughs. Playboy quickly swooped in, and the blond bombshell was born. “The transformation happened both slowly and quickly,” Anderson begins. “You’re in Playboy, people are doing your hair and makeup and you just turn into this different person. It gave me the confidence to play almost a character on-set.”

Don’t get her wrong: She describes her first Playboy shoot as an empowering and life-changing experience. “I never really felt in charge of myself or the things that had happened to me in my life,” she says, possibly alluding to the sexual assault she experienced at a young age. “I just wanted to break free of this painful shyness I had. And I thought the only way to do that was to basically jump off a bridge and go crazy.”

Enter the Baywatch era, when Anderson became one of the most famous women in the world, the highest-paid actor on the most-watched television show and a bona fide fashion icon. Minimalism was not in this star’s vocabulary. Sans stylist, Anderson wore sheer lace, leather pants, organ-defying corsets, blinding sequins and, of course, furry hats — all of which are currently being stored in a warehouse that sounds as if it could rival Barbie’s Dreamhouse. “I just wanted to have fun and wear things that I liked,” she explains rather nonchalantly, glossing over how incredibly cool and frankly bold it was to wear what she did. “Those outfits were just me being ridiculous and entertaining myself.”

Jacket, $3,115, and boots, $1,660, Stella McCartney. Bodysuit, $2,890, Alaïa at Holt Renfrew. Gloves, price upon request, Lillian Shalom.

Nowadays, she takes the red carpet a little more seriously. Well, one of her sons does anyway. When it came time for the premiere of Pamela: A Love Story, Brandon, who serves as one of the documentary’s producers, “insisted that I have somebody help me with my wardrobe because he wasn’t sure what I was going to show up in,” Anderson laughs, like a mom who’s used to being occasionally burned by her offspring. She now works with Rebecca Ramsey, who has taken Anderson’s over-the-top style and turned it into a lesson in quiet luxury, with cream suits, cozy sweaters and little black dresses. (See Anderson’s starring role in Aritzia’s Babaton Fall 2023 campaign.)

And just as she has swapped out her iconic Baywatch swimsuit for a minimalist red dress, Anderson is taking back control of her narrative, also with the help of her sons. “They were like: ‘Mom, nobody knows who you really are. It’s just this cartoon character that’s out there,’” she shares. “And that’s what I feel like I’ve done my whole life — play these different roles.”

Some of them are true to who she is: a mother, a writer, an activist. Others were unwillingly thrust upon her, like being one-half of a tabloid couple and the involuntary star of a stolen sex tape. But the latter made her a national punching bag at a time when the media was already reducing her to a big-breasted caricature. Tim Allen allegedly flashed her on the set of Home Improvement as a joke. Late-night hosts used her breasts as the punchline in countless opening monologues. And a lawyer even told Anderson that she had no right to privacy because she had appeared in Playboy

Now, it’s easy (and more than deserved) to point fingers at the media, but Anderson isn’t eager to rehash the past. As she writes in Love, Pamela, “there is no woe-is-me in this book.” Instead, we chat about the idea that women are somewhat conditioned to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. “Sometimes you’re just in so much shock over what someone has said that you kind of ride it out,” Anderson agrees. “You’re just looking at this person and thinking ‘Well, they’re a pretty wounded soul to have that in them.’”

Tired of only fielding questions about her boobs and her boyfriends, she decided to redirect the attention to something more meaningful — like animal rights — and has been doing so ever since. “I like to get my hands dirty,” Anderson says. “Hashtags are great, but I think physically doing things is so much stronger.” Through the Pamela Anderson Foundation — her non-profit that fights to protect human, animal and environmental rights — Anderson has been doing just that. She has planted trees around the world, spoken everywhere from Oxford University to the Kremlin in Russia and starred in a variety of PETA campaigns. “I like to be the bridge between hardcore activists and others as activism has become like a dirty word,” she says. “I don’t want to tell someone to be vegan. Instead, I’ll celebrate vegetables.”

This is exactly what she plans to do with her new series for Food Network Canada, Pamela’s Cooking With Love (premiering in 2024), where we’ll see her teaming up with top chefs as they prepare plant-based meals and menus. You’ll also see her in season two of Pamela’s Garden of Eden, which follows the star as she continues to renovate her B.C. property. “During the first season, I wasn’t in a good place,” Anderson admits. But now, she’s in a “love affair” with herself.

“I’ve had a lot of love in my life, and I don’t think I’m going to be alone for the rest of it,” she declares. “For me, this is a period to get to know who I am. It’s a powerful time, and I feel really good in my own skin.”

As we finish our video call, I wish Anderson luck with her bread baking. She tried a new kneading technique and is eagerly awaiting the results — hence the initial stress. But somewhere between chatting about her mom and her favourite romcom (it’s Amélie, in case you’re wondering), her anxiety subsided and she’s feeling more raw. Like the dough that’s currently sitting in Anderson’s oven, she’s bubbly, a bit mushy (she prefers “romantic”) and most definitely on the rise once again. After all, good things come to those who wait.

Dear oversized bag ladies; we’re sorry we ever doubted you.

You were right — carrying a “ludicrously capacious” handbag to Logan Roy’s birthday was the correct decision (thank you, Succession!). Micro mini bags are massively overrated.

RELATED: In Succession, Did Tom Have the Most Important Style All Along?

The petite purses of 2022 promised a carefree lifestyle: All you needed was your phone, keys and cards, and the world was your oyster. After all the emotional baggage we collectively accumulated during the pandemic, the Russian-Ukraine war, wildfires, Selena Gomez/Hailey Bieber drama, etc., it was admittedly nice not to be weighed down by physical baggage. We could pretend our lives fit neatly into a six-inch Jacquemus Le Grand Chiquito.

But the dream was rarely a reality. It more often meant that we were rocking the girl claw — an evolutionary adaptation where women have acclimatized to not having pockets (or big enough purses) to hold their things, so they’re forced to balance it all in one hand.

Finally fed up with this ruse, designers and the general public are using you, oversized bag ladies, as their muses. Whether you call it jumbo, oversized or ludicrously capacious, this season’s new It bag is anything but small. Take your cue from this grey leather carryall from Ferragamo’s Fall 2023 collection and play with over-the-top proportions.

As for what to tote in it, think flats for the subway, a lunch pail and maybe even workout wear. After carrying this around, you can skip the bicep curls. Browse below for a few of our favourite oversized bag options.

The dress code was “modern red carpet,” the cocktails were flowing and the supermodels were working the step and repeat at FASHION’s The Ones 2023.

To celebrate our September 2023 issue starring Coco Rocha, Kirsten Owen, Irina Lăzăreanu, Jessica Stam and Winnie Harlow, and mark the start of festival season, FASHION hosted its inaugural The Ones party on September 9 at the Lillian Massey building at 157 Bloor Street West, the historic location in Toronto’s Mink Mile that famously housed Club Monaco for more than 20 years.

Photography by George Pimentel

The Ones 2023 brought together more than 500 of Canada’s most stylish and influential fashion industry guests, from designers and artists to supermodels Coco Rocha, Kirsten Owen and Irina Lăzăreanu for an evening of immersive brand activations, Champagne, cocktails, canapés — and a rollicking dance party.

After walking the black carpet and grabbing a welcome glass of Taittinger Champagne, guests who wanted to live their best supermodel life could visit the Kilian Paris Discovery Bar to sample fragrances and pose at the Don’t Be Shy photo booth. Next, a stop into the Tiffany & Co. salon was all but mandatory, and made it hard to resist trying on elegant pieces from iconic collections including various styles from the Lock Collection. All that posing make you hungry? Partygoers were invited to indulge at a fresh Oyster Bar + Prawn Cocktail station, or in the bite-sized steak tartare, caviar-topped blini or mushroom vol au vent being offered throughout.

Photography by George Pimentel

Across the way, guests were encouraged to check out the Philosophy Skincare bar + photo booth featuring Dose of Wisdom, the bouncy skin reactivating serum, where they could sample products and indulge in another stylish photo opp.

Bevies flowed throughout The Ones’ chic venue including cocktails from the World Class Canada Bar, wine from Henry of Pelham, cold ones from Peroni, mocktails by Seedlip and ice-cold sparkling water from Perrier. All through the historic building, luxe contemporary floral arrangements from May Flowers added the finishing touches to the event’s elevated vibe.

Photography by George Pimentel

Finally, partygoers could make their way down to the lower level dance party where a giant disco ball sparkled and DJ Karim Olen Ash turned out hit after hit to an energetic dance floor bathed in pink light. There, Canada’s most fashionable boogied in their modern red carpet looks that included sparkly minis, sheer slips, silky gowns and strong-shouldered power suits fit for a runway. The competition was intense, but best-dressed of the evening would have to be a three-way tie between supermodels Coco Rocha in a graphic Greta Constantine gown, Kirsten Owen in a cool oversized grey velvet blazer by Maria Karimi and Irina Lăzăreanu in a sleek suit by Édito Simons. Honorable mentions go to CAFA nominee Dorian Who in a textured co-ord set and thigh-high latex boots and Olympic gold medalist Tessa Virtue in a striking red suit.

Check out the gallery below where we’ve rounded up all the most memorable fashion from The Ones 2023, along with a look at the stunning venue, immersive activations and our gift bag packed with goodies from Kilian Paris, Philosophy, NARS Makeup, Clarins Beauty, Uber, May Flowers and Belif.

Special thanks to the following:

Kilian Paris, Tiffany & Co., Uber, Philosophy, World Class Canada, Taittinger Brut Réserve Champagne, Tanqueray No. Ten Gin, Seedlip, Henry of Pelham, Peroni Nastro Azzurro, Perrier Water, NARS Makeup, Clarins Beauty, elle cuisine and May Flowers.

When you tell people you grew up in Montreal and moved away (in my case to Toronto nine years ago), the common reaction is “why would you leave??” Montreal, after all, is a charming European-feeling city of infinite delights. A small town vibe in a big city package, where love of art, food, drink and nightlife permeates every corner. It’s a place where your urban teenage years and rollicking early twenties fly by in a blur of summer fireworks, downtown bars, and dizzy dance floors, memories lodged in your psyche like wads of Bubblicious stuck to Seattle’s Gum Wall.

RELATED: Stylish Travel Gear That’ll Make the Journey Less Stressful

But it’s also a city where, if you spend a few decades, you’re likely to also collect some battle wounds. Quebec’s slogan is “Je Me Souviens,” meaning “I remember,” and despite years of joy, freedom and growth, and Montreal’s elysian reputation, there were some moments I’d rather forget.

That’s why, after almost 10 years of being away and at least twice as many visits to ailing parents that felt like, well, work, I resolved to return with my fiancé Dustin and toddler son Oslo in tow and just enjoy it. To reclaim some of the magic that was lost in the years since I left, my mission started in Old Montreal, which was the last place I lived before my great escape. A tourist mecca, it’s busy, sure, but also inarguably oozing with charm. I booked as few obligations as possible in an effort to slow down. Meander. Eat. Sit. Sip. Sleep. Repeat. It was, in a word, divine. I spent a few days in my old city with my new family, the one I created for myself, and visited with the ones I left behind. A sweet birthday brunch with old friends, a visit to my dad, and a beautiful dinner all punctuated the mostly itinerary-free sojourn.

After a few nights of delightful tourist leisure, I left my old hometown behind and returned to Toronto with new memories instead of anxiety about the old. You can’t ever truly go home again, but you can find a welcoming spot to rest your head before returning to your new one. Here are some of my Montreal faves.

The superior neighbourhood: Old Montreal

Photography courtesy of Rose PR

As mentioned, the decision to stay in Old Montreal was not a random one. It was the last place I lived in the city before relocating to Toronto and while I relished living in a classic converted loft in the heart of the neighbourhood, I longed to experience it like a visitor. And it didn’t disappoint (except for when my toddler would break loose and from my grip and run like an escaped prisoner into throngs of people). From the charm of the cobblestone streets stunning European architecture and the stunning views to the array of restaurants, cafes and cute shops (all within walking distance), it really can’t be beat.

Pro tip: Factor the cost into your travel budget and park your car in a lot or do valet at your hotel. The stress of trying to find and keep street parking simply isn’t worth it.

The chic hotel: William Gray

Photography courtesy of William Gray

Where to begin on this magical property? From the outside, the Hotel William Gray looks like an 1800s cottage meets a modern hotel (in fact, the property is comprised of two 18th-century stone homes topped with a sleek glass tower) and inside, the amenities are unparalleled. There are countless tricked out lounge areas for chatting, drinking or getting some work in. There’s a sleek pool in the summer and an outdoor patio with fireplaces and comfy Muskoka chairs. There’s a rooftop patio with insane unobstructed views of the waterfront. There’s an onsite restaurant, Maggie Oakes, with sleek wood booths and one of the best pain au chocolat I’ve ever had. Plus, the rooms themselves are superior in every way, from the deliciously cozy king-size beds to the Le Labo toiletries. (Did Dustin fill his Dopp kit with Santal 33 minis? I’ll never tell.)

Pro tip: Make time for a gorgeous glass of Prosecco at Maggie Oakes before heading to your dinner plans. Slide into one of the metallic barstools at the pristine marble bar — santé!

The iconic coffee shop: Café Olimpico

A post shared by Café Olimpico (@cafeolimpico)

Ah, Café Olimpico. The OG location in Montreal’s Mile End where I once lived is such an institution that you almost invite the anxiety that waiting in its intimidating line causes. Will I place my coffee order quickly and succinctly enough? Will the slightly stern but secretly sweet barista behind the counter even notice me? If I come here daily for two years, will I finally be treated like a regular? The Old Port outpost, located conveniently within the William Gray hotel, is smaller (and ridiculously cute) but still offers the same superior espresso Olimpico is known for. They get extremely busy but the line moves quickly and the staff at this location is very friendly.

Pro tip: Get the lemon cake. Don’t ask questions.

Check out more of the best hotspots in our Montreal travel guide here:

The ideal spot for extended stays: Warwick Le Crystal

If space and comfort are what you’re after, Warwick Le Crystal (formerly Hotel Le Crystal, which was the city’s only independently owned five-star hotel) is a must-visit. Recently acquired by Warwick Hotels & Resorts, this downtown location can’t be beat and its oversized rooms are perfect for longer stays or family vacations. Every single suite in the hotel features a kitchenette and king-sized bed, and fun fact: many of the suites have attached balconies. One particularly stunning penthouse suite features not one but two oversized balconies (one on either side of the living area), while another suite boasts a terrace that is larger than most one-bedroom apartments in Toronto. Everything’s bigger in Texas Montreal, it turns out.

The lush spa: Guerlain Spa at Four Seasons Montreal

Skin in need of a boost before we head into cooler temperatures? Get yourself to the Guerlain Spa located in Four Seasons Montreal, stat. Offering luxury treatments like facials, massages and body treatments, you’ll leave feeling rejuvenated and ready to take on the long, blistering winter season. (Er, as ready as you can be.)

The cute cocktail bar: Knox Taverne

A post shared by Knox Taverne (@knoxmtl)

Fancy a cocktail? Knox Taverne will hit the spot. Serving up creative cocktails and an excellent wine list (not to mention delicious sharable plates, if you want to nibble) in a cozy setting, you won’t want to leave this intimate Pointe St. Charles hangout spot. Come for the sips and bites; stay for the décor (gorgeous herringbone floors, plants and string lights galore).

The can’t-miss restaurant: Damas

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Damas (@damasrestaurant)

Serving up authentic Syrian flavours in a lush setting (think jewel-toned lanterns and dark polished wood), Damas offers an unforgettable dining experience. It’s no wonder the restaurant was named one of the best places to eat in Canada.

The quintessential Old Port hotel: Auberge du Vieux-Port

With waterfront views of the St. Lawrence river, exposed brick walls and original wooden floors that creak just the right amount, the Auberge du Vieux-Port offers the most authentic Euro-inspired experience. The charm of this 19th century property, comprised of two converted warehouses, is unbeatable but its hotel amenities are decidedly modern and luxe. Think: a wrought-iron bed straight out of Jane Eyre, but with a cloud-like king-size mattress. Did I mention the bathroom is spacious and the soaker tub is big enough for two? (In my case, me and my toddler — and his bath toys.) For the ultimate night in, grab a cheeky cocktail in their wildly cozy lobby lounge, complete with roaring fireplace, and then get Italian takeout from Jacopo just around the corner to keep the chill vibes going. The mushroom risotto is unmatched.

Megan Thee Stallion (who seemed to clear the air on her possible JT feud on social media) made a triumphantly sexy return to the spotlight at the 2023 Video Music Awards. One month after Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison for her July 2020 shooting, the American rapper walked the VMA red carpet 2023 in a black sheer corset gown by Brandon Blackwood, accessorized with a statement diamond choker by Jacob And Co. And the 28-year-old wasn’t the only musician to opt for a sultry black moment — behold Canadian treasure Nelly Furtado who shimmied down the red carpet in a body-skimming, long-sleeve gown with a dangerously low back. The 44-year-old “Maneater” was ravishing in the Dundas gown which was complemented by a soft bronzed glam.

Pop star of the moment Olivia Rodrigo was there as well, donning a disco ball dress by fashion darling Ludovic de Saint Sernin and Swarovski that was covered in 150,000 Swarovski crystals. According to Swarovski, the couture look was hand-sewn in Paris and took 38 hours to create.

It’s the most stylish time of the year: Fashion month, baby! And you know what that means: street style outfit inspiration as far as the Loewe balloon sunglasses-covered eyes can see. Starting off strong with the Spring 2024 shows in New York, we’re seeing some NYFW street style trends emerge from the jump including fall’s biggest trend, pops of red, seen on everything from shoes and handbags to easy day dresses and silky tops.

Elsewhere, maxi-skirts are still popular, iterated in ankle-grazing denim, sporty parachute silhouettes and cargo styles. The shoe du jour is undoubtedly flat, seen in classic ballet and trendy Mary Jane versions, while the denim is decidedly loose, wide and relaxed. Aside from red, we’re noticing interesting shots of yellow, in hues ranging from butter cream to marigold, not to mention a fresh green that could be described as somewhere between celery and peridot.

Hiding in plain site among the NYFW street style brigade were some of the usual Big Apple A-list celebrity attendees, including Jennifer Lopez, Gabrielle Union and Julianne Moore who donned their glam Americana best to take in the Ralph Lauren show,

Preppy, edgy, cool and youthful — those are just a few descriptors that come to mind regarding the Olivia Rodrigo style evolution the singer’s been on while promoting her newly released sophomore album, Guts.

RELATED: Can I Dress Like Olivia Rodrigo, Please?

Since her first major acting gig at 12 years old, the now 20-year-old actress and singer is proving that she’s come a long way from her Disney Channel days, both with her outfits and newly-matured music. Coming off the heels of her wildly successful debut album Sour, Rodrigo’s Guts has steadily climbed the charts since its release on September 8.

Just look to the thousands of “20-year-old teenage” fans on social media who have been applauding Rodrigo for her honest, raw lyricism as well as the edgy and nostalgic sound of the album. Some have even noted how the record could have easily been the soundtrack to a number of classic teenage movies from the late ’90s and early 2000s (think 10 Things I Hate About You and Freaky Friday).

And it seems that Rodrigo has fully embraced her latest era by taking on a renewed main character energy, one that includes the daring, pop-punk elements of her new sound mixed with the quintessential cool-girl vibe that she’s curated over the years. Lately, Rodrigo’s been pulling off her gutsy new style by opting for some Y2K graphic tees, a series of cute mini-skirts and the classically preppy socks with loafers and Mary Janes look.

As one of Gen Z’s biggest celebrities, Rodrigo’s latest sartorial adventure is solidifying both her pop star and fashion icon status — and it seems like she’s only just getting started.

Check out some of Olivia Rodrigo’s best style moments from her Guts era (so far) below.

Pulling from the fashion archives

A post shared by Olivia Rodrigo (@oliviarodrigo)

While celebrating her new album’s release, Rodrigo showed that she not only knows what works for her style-wise, but that she’s also well-versed in fashion history with this archival look from Todd Oldham’s spring 1995 collection. By combining the white satin cropped button-down that supermodel Shalom Harlow once sported with the glittery gold mini-skirt that fellow super Amber Valletta wore during the duo’s iconic 1995 runway moment, Rodrigo paid homage to one of the most exciting moments in ’90s fashion history while staying true to her youthful and daring style as of late.

The statement graphic T-shirt

Photography by Getty Images

The graphic tee and mini-skirt combo was one of Rodrigo’s go-to outfits this past summer and we’re not mad at it. While out and about in London ahead of the release of Guts, the singer wore a simple grey mini with a vintage-inspired T-shirt featuring rock star Pat Benatar. She completed the look with some very ’90s accessories, including several silver rings, her all-black shades and black Mary Janes with white socks.

A modern take on mod fashion

Photography by Getty Images

In a slight deviation from her usual darker, more overtly grunge style, Rodrigo sported this all-white look in London this summer. In a fuzzy mini-dress from Patou (that actually features a small triangle cutout in the front, which Rodrigo opted to hide by cleverly wearing the dress backwards) and knee-high white patent leather boots, Rodrigo seemed to be taking a break from her usual ’90s-inspired style for a more 1960s-themed look. But since mod style was actually known to be at the forefront of “risky” fashion at the time, Rodrigo may have been sticking to her edgy style persona with this look after all.

A virtual pop-punk look

To promote her album by hosting a virtual meet and greet inside of a Target (which has since gone viral for it’s slightly dystopian tone), Rodrigo looked the part of a futuristic pop-punk superstar. The singer wore a black tank top with a plaid red skirt (a fashion favourite for Rodrigo) and a matching red lip. What really tied the outfit together though were the knee-high black patent leather heeled boots that the pop star used to complete the look.

Floral with a twist

Photography by Getty Images

For a Guts pop-up event in NYC, Rodrigo wore a classic little black dress with a bold twist in a vintage Betsey Johnson number adorned with flowers. For an extra pop of colour, the singer matched her red strappy heels and signature red lip back to the frock’s rosettes.

This article was originally published on September 7 and has been updated.

With its on-the-court style, not to mention the chic spectator looks in the stands, tennis is fashion’s favourite sport. And, luckily enough for those of us who weren’t blessed with Serena Williams-like athletic abilities, tennis tournaments give us the opportunity to witness stellar courtside celebrity style moments — and the 2023 U.S. Open fashion is no exception.

RELATED: What the Best-Dressed Celebrities Wore to Wimbledon

Michelle Obama’s surprise appearance got the tournament going at an A-list pace when it comes to celebrity tennis fans. On the fashion front, and likely due to the current heatwave across most of the U.S. and Canada, summery staples such as midi-dresses, light colours and florals appear to be ruling the stands.

For what may be your last dose of sunny, sporty style until next summer, check out our round-up of the best celebrity U.S. Open fashion moments from this year’s tournament.

Casual black (and a romantic soft launch)

Photography by Getty Images

To make their first appearance as a couple (not counting the paparazzi footage from Beyoncé’s recent L.A. show!), Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet took in a little tennis. For their day date, the couple kept is casual, with the Kylie Skin founder in a basic black T-shirt, jeans, wraparound sunnies and chunky hoop earrings, and the actor in a grey tee, black zip-up hoodie and baseball cap. Young, in love and without a care in the world!

Ladylike luxe

Photography by Getty Images

For an afternoon in the stands, comedian Ziwe and model Emily Ratajkowski opted for elegant polish. Ziwe wore a cropped yellow tweed with what looks like a matching mini-skirt, while EmRata chose a grey knit dress and knee-high boots.

Elevated denim

Photography by Getty Images

You can never go wrong with straight-leg jeans and neutrals separates, which is exactly why Katie Holmes’ tennis style looks so timeless. The actress complimented her denim trousers and cream tank with a dark shoulder bag, matching sunglasses and trendy ballet flats. But, what really makes the outfit is her carefully knotted Miu Miu sweater that she threw over her shoulders for a quiet luxury-goes-to-tennis look.

Sleek suiting

Photography by Getty Images

Emma Watson attended a match in a tailored daytime pantsuit for a vibe that was polished but still easygoing. She completed the black and white look with a black tank top, skinny belt, small handbag and open-toe, flat sandals.

Bright and sunny

Photography by Getty Images

Queen Latifah was all smiles to take in some tennis, and her outfit complemented her vibe. The icon paired a Jimi Hendrix graphic tee with a bright orange cargo skirt and bold accessories for a standout look.

A rare matching moment

Photography by Getty Images

In a rare move for the Biebers, who are well-known for their apparent aversion to complementing each other’s outfits, this celeb couple looked very much in sync in matching oversized leather jackets. Their individual styles still shone through as they paired their looks with their own signature accessories, of course.

Keeping it casual

Photography by Getty Images

Chloë Grace Moretz (right) looked laidback in a navy blue baby tee with white trim which she accessorized with black cat-eye sunglasses.

All black everything

Photography by Getty Images

Women’s rights activist and social justice legend Gloria Steinem (!) attended the tournament in a sophisticated all-black outfit. Though she kept it simple with her black pants and top, Steinem dressed up the look with an statement gold belt that tied the look together.

Green floral

Photography by Getty Images

Who said florals were just for spring? Not Anna Wintour, that’s for sure. The Vogue editor and well-known tennis fan sported a collared midi-dress covered in a bright green floral print. Wintour completed the botanic moment with a cream-coloured skinny belt, matching boots, an off-white clutch and a blue jewelled necklace.

All white everything

Photography by Getty Images

You can never go wrong with a crisp white outfit for a tennis match and country star Maren Morris proved just that with her chic outfit. The singer opted for a classic white tank dress with a square neckline and completed the look with matching white accessories, including a shoulder bag and thong sandals.

TIFF might be lighter on stars than usual this year, but there was still plenty of sparkle at the 2023 TIFF Tribute Awards gala on September 10. Under the twinkling chandeliers of the Fairmont Royal York Hotel where Hollywood royalty Marlene Dietrich and Alfred Hitchcock once laid their weary heads to rest, Spike Lee and Pedro Almodóvar were among this year’s recipients. Both directors delivered moving speeches about how filmmaking can advance social and political justice.

But it was the women who brought the bling both onstage and the red carpet.

Diamond earrings swung from architect Diane Bald’s lobes as she and her husband, Roots co-founder Michael Budman, introduced the inaugural Norman Jewison Career Achievement award, which went to Shawn Levy, best known for directing and executive producing Stranger Things. Vicky Krieps, who is starring with Viggo Mortensen in The Dead Don’t Hurt and took home the Tribute Performer “trophy” – that’s what her kids told her to call it – dazzled in a silver mini-skirted suit. And The Share Her Journey Groundbreaker Award presented by Bulgari went to Patricia Arquette, who was lavishly outfitted by the luxury jeweller in their Serpenti diamond necklace, Serpenti Viper diamond ring and Serpenti diamond earrings and bracelet with emerald eyes.

Oscar winner Arquette is a fourth-generation actor and something of Hollywood royalty herself and was praised by Camila Morrone for being, “as fierce a mother, as she is an activist, as she is an actress.” Arquette directed Morrone and Willem Dafoe in Gonzo Girl, which had its world premiere on TIFF opening night.

Take a look at some of the most glamorous celebrity style from the 2023 TIFF Tribute Awards presented by Bulgari below.

These days, picking out clothes can be a bit of a conundrum. Whether you’re working from home, commuting to the office, or oscillating between both, piecing together the “right” outfit to face the day looks different in a post-COVID era. Famed designer Clare Waight Keller has been pondering that a lot lately.

RELATED: Red Accessories Are the Key to Fall Dressing

“I think the idea of having office wear or home wear or weekend wear is gone. It’s all blended into one,” she says at a press event on a sunny afternoon in Paris. The British artistic director — whose resume includes helming Chloé and Givenchy as well as designing Meghan Markle’s wedding dress — is here to discuss her new womenswear label with Uniqlo, entitled Uniqlo: C. (“C” for chic, casual, commuting, and yes, Clare.)

Photography courtesy of Uniqlo

The colourful 30-piece capsule collection is meant to take you from the couch to the city, with key pieces like wrinkle-proof pleated skirts, all-season oversized trenches, and pullover sweaters that can be layered with ease. Waight Keller looks sartorially serene, sporting the line’s billowing Printed Chiffon Pleated Dress (which retails at a palatable $79.90). “The dress I’m wearing has strings so that you can bring it in and out. The skirts have elastic bands. Everything has a sense of movement and softness to it,” she explains. These intentional subtleties are a styling saving grace, and they’ve become her calling card.

Photography courtesy of Uniqlo

When the aforementioned Duchess of Sussex emerged in a design by Waight Keller for her 2018 wedding, she was not in a traditional ruffle-adorned royal frock but a minimalist gown with sobering clean lines. Waight Keller established a similarly refined legacy at Chloé from 2011 to 2017, where she championed romantic fluidity with boyish tailoring. As the first female creative director at Givenchy until 2020, she redirected the label’s gothic sexiness into a realm of feminine elegance. Now, this luxury philosophy has gone global. “Femininity is something that I’ve always had in my work… and I felt that that was something that I could bring to Uniqlo that speaks to my world and my vision,” she says.

Uniqlo C

With other collaborations like Marni, JW Anderson and Jil Sander under its belt, the Japanese retailer has been secretly working with Clare Waight Keller for the past two years on this release. Rooted in the ever-evolving idea of the “modern woman,” the label exudes a mix-and-match versatility that, in today’s getting-dressed landscape, is more valuable than ever.

Ahead of its release on September 15, FASHION spoke with Clare Waight Keller about the inspirations behind Uniqlo C, the power of calmness, and what a “modern woman” looks like in 2023.

A focus of this collection is curating an “effortless” wardrobe. What do you see as some of the challenges women face when getting dressed, and how do you address them with Uniqlo C?

[There are] lots of challenges in getting dressed today. When you imagine how life has changed now that everyone is working via their phones, from home or going to the office, we’re all operating in so many different dimensions… You need clothes that look chic but are comfortable enough to wear at home, to commute to the office, or even to travel. I’m constantly travelling now, so I need clothes which can be packed easily. All of these aspects of multifunctionality have been a part of creating this capsule.

Uniqlo C
Photography courtesy of Uniqlo

How does this collection borrow from your previous roles at the helm of luxury brands?

A lot of the details that are in the collection have been signatures in my previous roles. At Chloé, I used a lot of fluidity and pleats. So I worked quite carefully over a long period of time with them because pleats are not a typical fabric texture that [Uniqlo works] with. Finding the right fabric that could do the pleating, do the micro-pleating, and have drawstrings… it took several tries to get it right. There were all these details that I had prior experience and knowledge of from working in France that I was able to bring to them in Tokyo.

Uniqlo C
Photography courtesy of Uniqlo

The fluidity of the collection evokes a sense of serenity. You’ve been described as calm by your industry peers. How does that trait inform your design process?

It’s true. I mean, I think that’s what everyone’s looking for in their lives, actually. You want to be able to open your wardrobe doors and think, “OK, I could put that with that. Or, today, I want to add that with that.” The most challenging thing for women is that there’s so much choice out there that sometimes it’s quite difficult to get dressed in the morning. There’s also this sense of being very self-conscious. I wanted the idea of effortlessness… For me, it’s a lot about feeling and emotion when you get dressed. Sometimes you feel good, and sometimes you don’t, because those are the ups and downs of being a woman who’s working and who has many things going on in her life. So if clothes can help, then that’s an amazing asset.

Uniqlo C
Photography courtesy of Uniqlo

While there’s a focus on femininity, there’s also a sense of androgyny via boyish-cut trousers and boyfriend pullovers. Why was that important for you to have?

That kind of crossover mix has always been part of my DNA and aesthetic. In my past working in menswear, I just loved having that slight rigour of the men’s tailoring to contrast with femininity. I also think it looks really modern on a woman to be able to have that kind of boyish blazer over a skirt. It just feels fresh, and I think it gives a lot of different aspects to your wardrobe. You can dress it in different ways but still feel feminine.

It’s refreshing to see menswear elements as pillars of a collection that emphasizes the “modern woman.” It seems like this image is very much tied to gender fluidity.

It is. Ever since I put the announcement post up on Instagram, I’ve had a lot of men sending messages saying, “When can I wear men’s?” or, “Can I wear the collection?” The interesting part is that a lot of what I’ve designed has been boxy or oversized. So by buying a few sizes up, anyone could wear it, which is really nice.

Stop everything: Hailey and Justin Bieber left the house looking like they’re attending the same event. Perhaps in response to the social media criticism over their very mismatched looks for Hailey’s Rhode Strawberry Glaze promotional tour, the couple have surprisingly sported two very rare complementary outfits in the days since.

First, the Biebers were spotted in a matching leather jacket moment sitting courtside at a 2023 U.S. Open Tennis Championship game on September 1. While their oversized black jackets and simple white tank tops where in sync, they showcased their individual styles with the rest of their outfits. Hailey paired the look with a white mini-dress and her signature “B” pendant necklace, while Justin played up his outfit with statement accessories like a backwards polka-dot baseball hat and pink Loewe balloon unglasses.

Photography by Getty Images

If their complementary tennis looks weren’t enough to prove that the couple were on the same page style-wise, they sported even more matchy outfits on September 5. Two coordinated looks in the same week may be a new record for the couple! Stepping out for a date night, the Biebers wore loose-fitting denim, tight white tanks and oversized leather jackets. The biggest differences once again came down to the accessories, with Justin wearing a backwards cap and sneakers while Hailey opted for narrow shades and black Chanel loafers, which she paired with white socks for a preppy vibe.

RELATED: Hailey Bieber’s Most Stylish Looks of 2023 (So Far)

It must be hard to be a celebrity in a relationship, no? Your dating timeline is basically public knowledge. Slightly humiliating monikers like “Bennifer” and “Tay-Squared” are unavoidable. And your street style as a couple is treated as a marker of your compatibility. But Hailey and Justin Bieber — in all their mismatched glory — don’t seem phased by this.

The A-list couple, who tied the knot in 2018, are frequently photographed out and about looking like they’re headed to entirely different functions. Hailey leans form-fitting and polished, while Justin is reliably dressed down and baggy. It’s almost as if they purposely skew as far as they can from one another when getting dressed. And you know what? It works.

Case in point: The pair is currently in New York City, and their sartorial contradictions are on full display. While out and about to promote Rhode’s latest launch — the Strawberry Glaze flavoured Lip Peptide Treatment — Hailey Bieber went all out in a fiery red structured mini-dress with monochromatic heels and a matching bag. As for Justin? A grey sweatsuit set, a backwards baseball cap and a pair of yellow Crocs.

A month earlier, the married duo were spotted leaving a restaurant in similarly contrasting clothing. Hailey sported a summery white mini-dress with a tasteful asymmetrical collarbone cut-out, while Justin wore XL jeans, a half-zipped hoodie and yet another baseball cap. See a theme?

Hailey Bieber and Justin Bieber
Photography by Getty Images

On a May 10 dinner date, Hailey went full Matrix fashion in a leather maxi and bralette with pointed heels. Justin, on the other hand, wore a white tank, low-slung jeans and worker boots. This seems not like a simple vibe difference, but a deeper commitment to being so visually contrary that the untrained eye would think, “Hm, I wonder why these two strangers are holding hands.”

Said dress code conundrum was the case yet again on a date night in April. Hailey’s ensemble? Pointed-toe heels, chic sheer tights and a halter LBD. Justin’s? Sweatshirt, baseball cap, and slides, if we’re being generous (but slippers if we’re being serious).

It was the same deal in the winter, at the grand opening of OBB Studios in Los Angeles. Mrs. Bieber was decked out in Schiaparelli couture with gold accessories, while her husband was in paint-stained jeans, a Drew House sweater and a pink beanie.

At this point, this sort of outright outfitting confusion is part of the couple’s style DNA. Historians will tell you that back in 2021, on a much-publicized outing in Paris, Hailey Bieber dazzled in a pink Miu Miu cocktail dress while Justin donned a slouchy red hoodie. Moral of the story? They almost never look in sync, and maybe that’s the point.

The garments worn by Hollywood couples tend to be taken as symbols of synchronicity. Tom Holland has a “Z” emblazoned on certain pairs of pants, which fans speculate is an understated ode to Zendaya. More alarmingly, Machine Gun Kelly accessorized with a vial of Megan Fox’s blood around his neck during their courtship. But Hailey and Justin Bieber take a decidedly different approach: dedicated inconsistency. Olivia Broussard (@olivialayne6) recently went viral on TikTok pointing out this phenomenon. “Is one of them overdressed or is the other one underdressed?” Broussard mused, flashing a series of photos of the duo on screen. “I cannot tell by looking at these outfits.”

There are, as with everything in life, exceptions to this pattern. Sometimes, the Biebers will appear delightfully harmonious. Take an April outing in L.A., where they both sported baggy jeans, a staple of low-effort, versatile dressing. Hailey completed her look with kitten heels and a crop top, while Justin went for a hoodie and sneakers. Here, despite their differences, the pair were decidedly in equilibrium. But this is not usually the case.

More often than not, Hailey is dressed to the nines while Justin looks unbothered and relaxed. She’ll wear a luxe Saint Laurent fur coat, and he’ll be in bug-eye sunnies and patterns layered with reckless abandon. For them, that’s normal. And sure, it’s a little jarring. She’s giving high-fashion, he’s giving Adam Sandler with a jar of pickles. But perhaps their drastically different dressing methods signal two partners that are secure in their relationship. They’re wearing what they want, and not judging one another for it.

Photography by Getty Images

What’s the purpose of painstakingly coordinating with your significant other, anyhow? To present an image of unity to the world? To convince onlookers that you’re on the same page? The Biebers, and all their incongruous outfits, take this notion and flip it on its head. What’s next for these two and their contrasting street styles? I’m not sure. But in all likelihood, nothing will make sense. And I’ll love it.

The hot hue first returned at RiRi’s concert in February 2023 (otherwise known as the Super Bowl). A month later, models did their best “girl on fire” impressions at Valentino, Gucci and Ferragamo. And most recently, Hailey Bieber channelled her inner strawberry, wearing novelty earrings, a mini-dress and matching heels to promote her latest Rhode launch.

And because FASHION doesn’t believe in gatekeeping, we’ll let you in on a little secret: the key to rocking red accessories is to combine them with a quiet luxury mentality. While, in theory, the Succession-inspired trend and the attention-seeking colour seem to be at odds, that’s what makes this fall’s approach so interesting. Take these Bottega Veneta boots paired with this casual co-ord (above). They appear knitted with yarn but the shoes are actually made from fine leather, making them much more durable.

Whether you want to follow in RiRi’s footsteps or simply update your wardrobe with 2023 trends, here are some red accessories we are coveting this fall.

Reformation mini bag

Sure, you might not be able to fit more than a phone in this cute purse but what it lacks in size it makes up for in style. The hint is in the name — the Mini Chiara Convertible Bag. With some simple twisting, the piece can turn into a geometric clutch.

Prada kitten heels

For the price of one, you can cover two of the biggest fall 2023 biggest trends: red and kitten heels. Pair these slingbacks with a classic white button-down and jeans and this outfit can take you anywhere.

8 Other Reasons choker

Can Carrie Bradshaw do any wrong? Well, that topic is hotly debated (see: all her relationships) but we can all agree that she did wonders for the rosette. Swap a brooch for a choker for a more modern take on the Sex and the City essential.

Burberry bag

A quilted bag is a must when it comes to quiet luxury and this red one from Burberry checks all the right boxes. Wear it as a crossbody when running errands to add a little sparkle to your step.

Maguire ballet flats

After getting used to lockdown living, we don’t blame you for retiring your heels. Consider adding Maguire’s Prato ballet flats in the colour lipstick to your lineup.

Van Cleef & Arpels necklace

Does it get more timeless than a red Alhambra pendant from Van Cleef & Arpels? The iconic motif has been a staple of the jeweller’s since 1968 and shows no signs of stopping. Pair it with chunky gold chains to give it a 2023 twist.

Mango bag

Add some patent leather to your daily ensemble with this leather shoulder bag from Mango. Feminine, with a bit of edge, and cherry tomato red is a sure-fire combination (see what we did there).

Gucci sunglasses

Looking at the world through rose-coloured glasses has a whole new meaning when your sunnies are actually red. But we don’t doubt this gorgeous pair from Gucci would brighten anyone’s mood.

Feximzl beanie

“Hold and Cold” doesn’t just have to be a Katy Perry song, it can also be a mantra to fall dressing. Stay warm with a fuzzy hat and look very cool in the 2023 red trend.

We all know that Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour has been taking both the music and fashion worlds by storm since its first stop in Stockholm, Sweden back in May. And now, with the help of countless celebrities turning up in their absolute best looks, her recent shows at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles may have taken the (birthday) cake.

RELATED: Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour Beauty Looks Are Pure Perfection

To celebrate her 42nd birthday, Queen Bey hosted three shows in L.A. and even had a very special concert on her actual birthday on September 4. The Beyday concert included surprise performances by Kendrick Lamar, who joined Beyoncé on stage for their song “America Has a Problem,” and Diana Ross, who led approximately 60,000 fans in singing “Happy Birthday” to the superstar birthday girl.

The special on-stage guests were just the tip of the iceberg in terms of famous attendees at the Renaissance shows, though. From Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, it seems that just about every A-lister you could think of attended at least one of Beyoncé’s L.A. shows. Naturally, many celebrities also complied with Beyoncé’s Virgo season silver dress code request and turned up in their very best metallic and sparkly “concert dressing” looks.

In honour of what some fans are calling “the biggest music/fashion/celebrity event of the year,” here’s a round-up of the very best celebrity looks from Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour birthday shows in Los Angeles.

The Kardashians

Photography by Getty Images

The Kardashian crew showed up at Monday night’s show in style — and they even brought along Kourtney’s daughter, Penelope, and Kim’s daughter, North, for the special occasion. The little cousins were in on the metallic dress code, matching in head-to-toe silver ensembles by Diesel. The rest of the family also followed the theme of the night, with Kim sporting a bedazzled crystal top and matching purse, Khloé wearing silver pants that matched Penelope and North’s looks, and Kris donning a fully metallic outfit complete with an oversized trench coat and shades.

Gabrielle Union

For her first of two looks, Gabrielle Union tried her hand at the sheer dressing trend, sporting a see-through chainmail dress from The New Arrivals over a metallic silver bra and underwear set. The actress completed the outfit with matching silver shoes, Tiffany & Co. jewellery, and a Valentino handbag.

Kerry Washington, Kelly Rowland and Meghan Markle

In a rare public outing for Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex posed for a photo alongside actress Kerry Washington and Beyoncé’s former Destiny’s Child bandmate, Kelly Rowland. Washington sported a shimmery black top and a sparkling silver purse. To attend her third show of the weekend, Rowland wore a glossy strapless black corset with a silver choker necklace and matching face jewels. For her second time seeing Queen Bey that weekend (she was also spotted wearing a sparkling, sequinned tube skirt by SPRWMN as she danced with Prince Harry during Friday night’s concert), Markle donned a metallic silver skirt and black halter top for a very Renaissance-esque look.

Tracee Ellis Ross

A post shared by Tracee Ellis Ross (@traceeellisross)

We simply couldn’t discuss celebrity looks at Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour birthday stops without mentioning Tracee Ellis Ross. Captioning an Instagram post of her outfit “she said wear silver,” the actress proved that she was taking Beyoncé’s dress code request literally with her oversized silver sequinned dress from Rabanne.

Vanessa Hudgens

In a very Beyoncé-inspired look, Vanessa Hudgens wore a silver sequinned halter minidress with an edgy slit and matching shimmery blazer. But, it was the accessories that really made this look shine. Hudgens completed her outfit with a long, silver chain necklace, cool-girl sunglasses and a massive black, glittery fan reminiscent of the one Beyoncé uses during the show to perform her hit “Heated.”

Zendaya, Ayo Edebiri, Quinta Brunson and Tom Holland

Have you ever seen a more stylish friend group? Beyoncé certainly noticed the on-theme crew, even giving a special shout-out to Zendaya during the concert. Zendaya wore a sparkly ensemble with a crop top, oversized jacket and shorts set, silver hoops and matching pumps. While they weren’t matching, Tom Holland complemented his girlfriend’s decked-out outfit nicely by wearing a leather jacket and a Renaissance Tour T-shirt. The Bear star Ayo Edebiri also abided by the dress code with a shimmery cowl neck top, while Quinta Brunson stunned in a metallic Rick Owens cutout mini-dress with sparkly knee-high boots.

Issa Rae

The Barbie actress was all smiles as she shimmied to show off the chrome effect of the metallic-panelled, two-piece set she wore to one of Bey’s birthday shows.

Keke Palmer

Palmer took her outfit in a slightly different direction than many of the other celebrities at Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour, wearing a black strapless mini-dress by Sergio Hudson. She remained on-theme by pairing the dress with a bedazzled black denim jacket and a sparkly choker necklace. The star took the look one step further by amplifying her glam with silver eyeshadow and matching metallic highlights in her curly hair.

Hailey Bieber

Hailey Bieber stepped away from her recent “strawberry girl summer” attire for Beyoncé’s concert, sporting a somewhat casual, yet still Renaissance-inspired, look for the night. The Rhode founder wore a simple black tank top and dark grey miniskirt with her hair pulled back into a slicked-back bun that allowed for her silver bulb earrings to shine.

Sofía Vergara

The former Modern Family star danced the night away with moves that would’ve made Bey proud in a sequinned maxi-skirt and black tube top.

Diana Ross

As one of Monday night’s very special guests of honour, Ms. Ross wore a black gown with sequinned detailing to perform her 1975 hit “Love Hangover” and led the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday” to Beyoncé. The legendary artist paired the dress with a black feather boa shawl and diamond chandelier earrings for a truly glamorous look.

There was Coach’s heart-stamped heels, Emilia Wickstead’s metallic-meets-minimalist options, and Prada’s Western-influenced iterations coming in a kaleidoscope of zingy colour that popped with every look. Even Bally got the boys into a black patent version paired with languid suiting, making us question why we hadn’t thought of it as the most obvious choice for evening wear in the first place.

Soon, the street style elite followed suit, putting their own spin on the buzz-worthy style: pairing them with pristine white dress socks, delicately scrunched at the ankle; off-setting zany tights or trousers with a neutral pair; and leaning into its preppy reputation with long pleated skirts.

If you’re wondering whether the Mary Jane resurgence has reached the mainstream, here’s the good news: this season’s offering pretty much spans the entire style spectrum. From teetering patent platforms to velvety ballet flats and T-strapped oxfords with chunky, punk-happy soles, there’s truly a pair for everyone. Read on for 19 of our favourite pairs of Mary Jane shoes.

We’re not sure what we’re more jealous of, Dua Lipa’s seemingly endless beach vacation or her perfectly chill seaside style.

When she hasn’t been busy at the pink carpet premieres of the Barbie movie, the “Dance The Night” singer has been sharing countless fashionable social media posts of herself touring ancient ruins in Greece, frolicking around beautiful Mediterranean islands and visiting her home country of Albania — and those are just a few of her recent travel stops.

And while Lipa’s apparently never-ending vacation has been one of the internet’s favourite jokes of the summer, her holiday looks have been seriously stylish.

Whether she’s been soaking up the sun on a sailboat, reading by the water, or partaking in a perfectly timed sunset photoshoot on the beach, Lipa has stunned in everything from cute bikinis and crocheted two-piece sets to silky mini dresses.

Since we’ve spent so much of summer 2023 in awe of her holiday looks, here’s a round-up of the best vacation style moments from the seemingly endless Dua Lipa beach holiday.

A polished evening look

To enjoy quality family time while visiting Albania, Lipa donned a silky white button-down shirtdress outfitted with long, cuffed sleeves for a very quiet luxury-inspired look. Allowing the crisp simplicity of the dress to shine, the singer complemented the garment with a high, slicked-back bun, silver jewellery and a matching woven handbag.

Embracing the “island girl” lifestyle

While soaking up summer in Sifnos, Greece, Lipa sported a series of chic but laidback vacation outfits. First up was a simple black bikini she later wore with a black, sequined crocheted cover-up. The look was accessorized with a woven Bottega Veneta shoulder bag and favourite vacay sandals. Next up was a breezy one-shoulder green satin look that she wore with her hair in loose waves and gold jewellery. For another evening look, Lipa opted for an edgy asymmetrical mini-dress with a sneaky cutout over her upper thigh that she paired with kitten heels, chunky silver earrings and a slicked-back braided ponytail hairdo.

Posing beachside at sunset

To pose cliffside at an Albanian beach, Lipa sported a chic backless mini-dress from Celine. The singer paired the look with simple jewellery and makeup for a relaxed sunset look.

Sailing through the Mediterranean

As she “sailed through the Peloponnese,” Lipa showed off a cool-girl boating outfit, featuring a baby pink maxi-skirt, plaid bikini and an unbuttoned white blouse that flowed blissfully in the Mediterranean sea breeze.

Dancing the night away

The caption of this post says it all. During her most recent summer holiday in Ibiza, Dua Lipa stepped out in an edgy evening look that screams vacation. Lipa sported a draped, velvet romper over a tulle Gucci bra with lots of eye-catching gold Chanel accessories and a tiny metallic shoulder bag for a look that, as she said herself, belongs on a dance floor.

Amal Clooney brings a special kind of style prowess to the celebrity fashion world. Working behind the scenes as a human rights attorney, the 45-year-old star (and wife to George Clooney) doesn’t typically spend her days in front of the camera. But when we do get a glimpse at her elegant outfits, they’re reliably put-together, polished, and professional. The best part of this formula? Her impeccable eye for vintage fashion.

RELATED: Kendall Jenner’s Best Style Moments

With a taste for refined silhouettes and clean-cut tailoring, Amal Clooney is an expert at curating retro-leaning ensembles. Though she has a penchant for 1960s designs, her references span decades — from flapper-inspired ’fits to 2000s-era couture. Each time, these looks are accessorized to perfection for a fresh modern spin on otherwise classic oeuvres. And with a crisply-dressed George as her complementary plus-one, Amal Clooney shines when serving sartorial history lessons. Below, FASHION rounded up her best vintage-inspired looks yet.

The 1960s mini-dress moment

The 2023 Venice Film Festival kicked off on August 30, and a day earlier, Amal Clooney arrived in the Italian city in true vintage style. Sporting sheer slingbacks (a.k.a. an elevated take on trending mesh flats) and a matching black handbag, her floral-printed shift stood out as a nod to 1960s-era mini-dresses. With its minimalist detailing, the archetypal shift dress de-emphasizes the waist for a structured look that is both comfortable and chic. What better getup to kick off a notoriously hectic festival?

The nineties bridal look

Earlier this summer, Amal Clooney put a vintage spin on the minimalist bridalwear mood of the moment — sans wedding, of course. On a dinner date with her husband of eight years in Lake Como, Italy (where the couple share a summer house — NBD), the philanthropist was spotted in a gauzy slip dress from the spring/summer 1999 Christian Dior by John Galliano collection. With ever-so-subtle lace embroidery and dainty ruffled detailing, it honed in on the sophisticated simplicity of nineties-era going-out clothes.

Flapper fashion, but make it Versace. This is the energy Amal Clooney brought to the 2022 Albie Awards — an event established by the Clooney Foundation to honour “courageous defenders of justice” across the globe. Designed by Donatella Versace specifically for the occasion, the gold fringe gown was dripping in intricate gilded embellishments. She finished the look with voluminous side-part waves and a bold red lip for an all-around retro mood. The best part? Flappers are famous for pushing back on unfair societal constraints. So for an affair celebrating just that, this reference feels all the more right.

The impressive archival pull

What exactly does one wear to spend an evening with the royals? For Amal Clooney, the decision seems easy. At the Prince’s Trust dinner in 2019, she donned a one-shouldered Jean-Louis Scherrer by Stephane Rolland gown, sourced from the luxury boutique William Vintage. The (haute couture!) ensemble came from the designer’s 2007 collection and featured an asymmetrical cascading cape. Paired with a box clutch and side-swept soft curls, the ensemble captured the essence of Old Hollywood glamour.

The retro career uniform

Photography by Getty Images

In April 2022, two months after Russia invaded Ukraine, Amal Clooney visited the United Nations in New York to advocate for war victims wearing a decidedly to-the-point ensemble. Her look of choice? A vintage Christian Dior polka dot skirt set. The top flared into a subtle peplum silhouette, while the pencil skirt hit slightly above the knees. It’s an outfit she previously wore when speaking at the Supreme Court in London in 2015. With the addition of large ’60s sunglasses this time around, the ensemble felt like a vestiary acknowledgement of the 1960s working woman image.

The mod maternity outing

Photography by Getty Images

While pregnant in 2017, Amal Clooney put a refined retro spin on the coveted French Girl style. The star stepped out in Paris wearing a crisp ivory dress-and-coat set adorned with sharp black square-shaped piping. The look — sourced from William Vintage — reportedly dates back to 1965 and appears reminiscent of the fashion icons of that era. It’s breathable, smart, and perhaps her most classically vintage serve yet.
